I think I'll trust the BBC over the idiot ABC announcers.

ABC commentators had a clear view of the screen, I'm pretty sure even idiots would notice if they were showing it.

But both BBC & Sports Illustrated couldn't see the huge screens?

BBC & SI article writers weren't broadcasting the game live. Surely, if the ABC commentators were broadcasting live and paying attention to the game and saw the replay on the screen, then I believe them.

FORZA ITAAALIIIAAAA!!! Fvcking France deserves to lose after Zidane's little tantrum... what a lame way to end your career.

 Zidane!
 Italy! Bravo!

How in the world can this be a legal ending to any major sporting event is beyond me. I feel bad for France, I didn't want any particular team to win, but after watching the second half, and OT and the stupid PK's, I have to say that France played a MUCH better game that Italy overall.

WTH is with PK's to determine the winner? At least in baseball the athletes play till the end, there's no homerun derby to decide a winner. What a bunch of weaksauce.

Oh....Go White Sox!

Actually, it's Forza Azurri 🙂

But to add to that, after being totally heart broken in 1994 (Roberto Baggio, man) and in 2000 (did the freaking ref have to add that much injury time) I'm on cloud 9 right now!

I see some arguments going on, here's my take as an Italian fan:

First penalty was total dive, shouldn't been called.
Second penalty that wasn't called should've been called, so I guess it evened out in the end.
Italy's called-back goal was slighly offside, that was a good call by ref.
Italy outplayed france in 1st half. France slightly outplayed Italy in 2nd half. France outplayed Italy in overtime by a lot.
Zidanne's head-butt was a good call by the ref, it was one of the most assine things I've seen on the field, he deserved what he got.
That was one of hte best PK executions I've seen in my life. All players just picked a corner and went with in, no fancy stuff.
Italy's defense is da-******. Despite the France controlling the game for roughly 60 minutes, they only had 1-2 real chances.

I was thinking....

very questionable calls and actions from that ref (before as well)... and unexplainable headbutt from Zidanne.

Could it be.. that Ref was paid to do certain things? and Zidann wanted no part of it?.. hmmmm I wont be shocked if I am correct on this and the truth is revealed years later. hmmm

You sure know a bunch about the Italian soccer team 😉

It hasn't been confirmed, but word has it that there was racial slur going on during the verbal exchange between Zidane and Materazzi. Zidane got into a similar situation back in 1998 playing against the Saudi team where he was provoked for the whole time. If what was said is true, Materazzi got what's coming to him and more.

worst world cup evar

and that dude said something obviously very offensive to zidane to make him head butt him in the chest. zidanes never been one to lash out

Depends what was said during the verbal exchange. Zidane was already jogging away from the whole thing. Materazzi must've said something that would make Zidane turn around and headbutt him. Some are speculating racial slur which prompted him to stomp on the Saudi player in the previous World Cup.

As I've said before, it isn't the first time Zidane's done this. He missed a game earlier this WC due to two yellow cards, and in 1998 was tossed after stomping on the back of a Saudi player. In the Champions League, he also headbutted an opposing player. Zidane can hardly be called a sportsman, despite the attempts of the media to portray him as such. Overall, that's all or parts of 4 games missed due to suspension in 2 WC's. That's a pattern. What happened yesterday was perfectly typical Zidane.

you do realize people get yellow cards all the time right? Just ask Italy how many times the wrong team got a yellow card because of their diving

Your point is......what? Of course there are tons of yellows handed out, more this Cup than any other. HOWEVER how many players were suspended for accumulating MULTIPLE yellows in the Cup? How many of those were supposed "star" players? How many were ejected multiple times, in multiple Cups? Also, aside from the accumulating yellows, the red tally is two in 2 WC's. You can't criticize a player for getting a single yellow card. It is more than fair to criticize when that player gets himself thrown out of multiple matches and racks up mutiple match suspensions on the world's largest stage for accumulating mutiple yellows and multiple reds.

My original point is that Zidane has a history of unsportsmanlike behavior. His actions yesterday should surprise no one, at least anyone whose followed his carreer.

Zidane is not a sportsman. Of course it isn't going to take long for people to come up with excuses. French fans don't want to admit that their star player is a twit. He repeatedly loses his cool.

I am going with France as ZZ has more class in his pinky than the entire Italian and Portugese teams combined. I'd like to see a guy of his caliber retire after helping his country win the World Cup.

😕
I was thinking of that statement when the red card came out. I can't imagine what would make a guy tarnish his entire career like that. Win or Lose, he was about to walk away from the game with the reputation of one of the greatest players in history. Now he has to slink off in ignominy and hope he can keep some of the glory he had when this blows over. I REALLY want to know what Materazzi said to him. It would have had to be outrageous to get me to throw away my reputation like that.

And to add insult to injury he didn't show up for the award ceremony and he was voted best player before his headbutt- before the World Cup was even over.

Well, things happen.. but not of Zidane's reputation.

In the end, Italy couldn't quite capitalize on the 1 man advantage. I really thought it was gonna be hard for them to win on penalties..
suprisingly they converted all kicks.

Too look at how they played as a team, a little bit of luck here and there especially vs Australia. Yes, they deserve to win the world cup
