If the DP965LT mobo doesn't allow OCing why would everybody want to flash their bios to the most recent version? If the BIOS won't allow OCing can you use some of those OCing software packages to do so? Or would using these software packages fry your mobo?

Does anyone know where to find the complete DP965 bios manual if it exists.
There are several option I don't realy understand like :

Intel QST subsystem (in the maintenance mode)
Processor Zone Damping (in fan control)

i posted a lot about the 965 hanging on restart and i solved this by disabling the CORE MULTIPLEXING option in BIOS. i'd be curious if disabling that helps your issue.

as for flashing the BIOS, forget the CDR and look into making a bootable USB flash drive. once it's bootable (tip: think WIN98) you can then run the intel IFlash program from it and update your BIOS. i've got all the versions of the 965 bios stored on my USB drive and can upgrade/downgrade as needed.

I am waiting for my third MB from Intel - it should arrive today. I determined that the startup issues were the MB's dislike of my CDRW/DVD I was using. When I put a different one in, the problem went away. I returne the other 2 MBs because they would not let me update the bios. I have my fingers crossed that the 3rd times a charm.
Ok, a bootable jump drive - I have to think about that - I never really got the CD to work - what installs the bootable files to the jump drive?

Hi

I've tried the verifier utility of WindowsXP and looked on the siodrv.sys. I'm looking on the file build but it said "unsupported engineering build". I believe that this file came with the intel desktop utility. As what you've said that intel's support confirmed that this board was not supported by the intel desktop utility, is there any alternative? I've tried using everest home and speedfan and all I can get is the HDD temperature. Any tips from the pros? thanks.
 
Well - third time is indeed a charm - I loaded WIN XP Home - did the bios upgrade and then loaded WIN XP 64. Windows (the MB) still does not like the CDROM drive - and hangs as soon as I connect it. I can live without it. My son is loading all his games and then I can determine if I want to keep WIN XP 64 or go to something else.....

The latest release of everest ultimate can read the motherboard and Cpu temperature.

 
I'm running Gentoo linux fine, however other distros wont install.

With gentoo's 2006.1 kernel you can do "gentoo irqpoll all-generic-ide" and the installer will then detect the cdrom drive and be able to continue.

The problem is most distros dont compile the all-generic-ide driver into the kernel so the boot parameter "all-generic-ide" doesnt do anything. Once you boot to the installer, it can no longer see the cdrom. I'm about to try installing debian or ubuntu from inside gentoo via chrooting. Hopefully it works, i cant stand gentoo any longer!
 
I just installed Vista 64 RC2 on the DP965LT/E6600 and everything seems to be running OK. Under the device manager I do get a warning -
PCI Simple Communications controller no driver.
Anyone have any insight? I do not have any PCI cards installed. My video card is a 7600GT.

The desktop board supports the dual or single channel memory configurations defined
below.

? Up to 2.0 GB utilizing 256 Mb technology
? Up to 4.0 GB utilizing 512 Mb or 1 Gb technology
? Up to 8.0 GB utilizing 1 Gb technology

How is it possible with only 4 memory slots ???
 
The PCI Simple Communications controller is the Intel Management Engine. If you were to install the Management Engine Driver and Chipset Software Installation Utility drivers available for download on the download center, one of those should pick it up.

So do I, and I think a few other people also reported this around page 5 or 6.


It appears to be "normal" , and there is no obvious problem associated with this low readout.


Intel know about it (well... I've told them about it, for one); but nobody yet knows wheter it is just the readout, or the votage itself that is wrong.



Does anybody know what problems we should expect to see if the 1.5v really was running at 1.25?

Hey guys, im kind new to the forum but i saw this topic and wanted to ask a couple of things. i have also bought the DP965LT and OCZ PC6400 ddr2 ram with it, now i first had alot of problems installings windows till i found out OCZ ram needs to run at 2.1voltage. does updating the bios allow me to change it from 1.8 to 2.1v in bios after i flashed it with the newest upgrade? (1545).
 
I see, so it seems normal then. Does anyone of you had ever experienced a blue screen of death in Windows XP on this board? I am having this kind of trouble for a couple of days. The bsod are as follows:

Unable to load image USBPORT.SYS, Win32 error 2

It randomly happens. I am using the latest chipset drivers and bios update yet it didn't work. Anyone had a similar experience? Thanks.
 
yes nauhe, i had random copy errors and everything, when i finaly got in windows it wouldnt install anything and coulnt find the cd's in the drive
 
ive burnt the iso to a disk (version 1545) but now i dont know if its safe to upgrade the bios with my OCZ ram in it. id dont have any other ddr2 ram so id have to take it to a pc shop. hope someone reply's quickly xD

I believe that this board only supports 1.8V and the latest bios update doesnt show any memory voltage adjustment.

No, the board suppoprts 1.8v and 1.9v RAM voltages, and sets it automatically by SPD. Thges is no manual adjustment.

Hi,

I've just installed this MotherBoard with the E6400 Core Duo.
It's stable but I have a problem with the Processor Fan (Thermaltake orbit Blue II).

Even when I dont load my computer the fan runs a 1600rp/min.
When I try with everest to "BottleNeck" the cpu with a loop program, the cpu reach 100%, temperature increase and the fan still runs to 1600rp/min.

By visiting thermaltake, I saw that the maximum speed of this fan is 1600rp/min.

Therefore the fan is always on max.

How can I enable with this MB the Fan-auto-control?

It'll be better for my hears with a 800 or 1000 rp/min in idle status. Do not need 1600rp/min everytime.

The terminology "Up to 8.0 GB utilizing 1Gb technology" has to be read very carefully. The overall memory size is up to 8 gigaBYTES utilizing 1 gigaBIT memory chips. Each DIMM can have up to 16 chips. Therefore a single module can have up to 16 gigaBITS or 2 gigaBYTES.
