Another annoyance I have with this board is is the fan control. I guess I was hoping it would just lower the voltage of the fans on motherboard headers when it wants to slow them down. Instead they are pwmed. As a result when I'm idle I can hear my fans start up, then turn, then start back up.

I think this board is going to get replaced pretty soon...

@Peter

thanks for the reply regarding Booting up with CD

I'd like to ask whether this other issue has been resolved also. I'm still thinking about buying this board.

Sorry if I seem to have lots of questions.
My only other option other than DP965LT is an ECS 965 and MSI NEO 965. I've read the thread and eventhough the board has problems a lot of people have still been saying that its a stable board so I'm being hopeful on this.

The computer I'm using now uses an D850GB socket 423. I've had it since 2001 and it still works great. That's why I'd like to have an Intel board for our new pc.

Hi,

I think the 3 pin fan headers for the chassis fans are voltage adjusted in line with the 4 pin header on the CPU fan.

If so, you should be able to use one of those...

Hi all

Everything seems OK for me at the moment with this board. One question though - I have two SATA drives. I wasn't sure whether to set them up as IDE or AHCI in the BIOS. When I tried switching to AHCI and rebooted the board gave out loads of Beeps and wouldn't boot. I switched back to IDE and everything was fine. Is this right?

Hi,

Windows certainly will not load if you set SATA to AHCI; unless you provided the AHCI SATA drivers on a Floppy using F6 during Windows install, of course.

Don't know about the beeps. It should POST - I assume it did, as you were able to change the setting back.

Peter

Thanks Peter. Do I need to set the SATA drives to AHCI? Am I disadvantaged in any way setting them as IDE? I don't think I have a choice at the moment anyway as there don't seem to be any floppy drivers for ICH8 at the moment (only for ICH8R).

Hi,

I'll try that bios when I have a moment....

I have just been told that there is no Linux driver for the IDE controller on the DP9565LT at all, at all...

So very posibly no DOS driver either.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Peter

One of the issues mentioned previously was the turn on / turn off / turn on fans on power up. I also had this issue, but when I updated the BIOS this seems to have cured it.

One day to go until desktop utilities?

System seems to be stable so far - looking forward to getting SX3 and plug-ins installed so I can actually start making music!

anybody has experience putting in a thermal take big typhoon or zalman 9500 series cooler in this mobo. i've emailed both, and got a very generic reply. what worries me is the massive nb heatsink

Hi,
I have updated to the latest bios (1176) but am still having problems with my memory.
I have the Geil DDR2 Dual Channel Kit - 2x1gb pc6400 @ 800mhz 1.9v-2.4v
I can not change my memory settings in Bios to make it run at 800mhz, when I do I get a series of 3 beeps on powerup and then nothing happens. I have to reset the bios with the jumper to get it working again. On the Bios Main page it says my system memory is running at 667 Mhz this is with the auto setting for memory enabled. Pain in the ass motherboard - I wish I hadn't been rushing when I ordered , my bloody girlfriend was nagging me to get it done as it is her new comp (annoyingly she has a much better spec than me now).

On a side note my temps are:
CPU Temp - 55c
Motherboard 1 - 52c
Motherboard 2 - 50c
Motherboard 3 - 50c
ICH - 63c
MCH - 60c

CPU fan around 700 (Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, b.t.w. this barely fits besides the motherboard cooling fins, definitely not recommended for installation by those of a nervous disposition.)
Chassis Fan around 2000

I have the zalman cooler and it works fine.

thanks. thats very good news. will get one asap. i dont think the stock cooler is doing its job.

the link to the new desk top utilities is up! the thing is it doesnt work. if u look into the directory, the file doesnt even exist yet!!! very sloppy intel!!!!

yeah. i got it, installed it. and guess what. IT DONT REPORT ANY TEMP APART FROM HDD.
WTF is this????????

is it only me or is it like this for everyone?

okay got it to work!!!
it seems the installer wasnt properly installing the smbus driver. i manually installed it and all is okay.
what is interesting is that upper threshold for cpu is 68 in my system
running 2 instances of prime95 makes it go upto 63 and fan speed goes up to 2500+

I also had to manually install SMBUS driver before any temperatures came up. Hard to believe Intel would let this problem exist.
At idle my E6600 is reporting 39, mobo 43,42,39, I/O 63 and Mem 50.
I'll run a stress test and see what happens to the temps.
I have the Cooler Master Praetorian case with 2 input fans and 2 exhaust fans - one exhaust fan is on the top. I current have one of the input fans off. Curious to see what temps are when all fans are running.

You don't have to manually install SMBUS driver.
I had the same problem. I restarted my PC several times and nothing happened. When I selected "Fans Redetect" in "Set sensor treshold" and restarted my PC, all the temperatures and fan speeds apeared.
CPU temp on my E6300 is 36 in idle, 56 in max, CPU fan speed is holding at 861 RPM even at max temp.

I also had a problem with IDU not reporting temps. I uninstalled IDU, rebooted, manually installed SMBus, then installed IDU. It worked ok after that.

Here is a temperature report for my computer.
Idle temps on CPU are 44C, fan speed 500rpm.
I ran SuperPi to warm up the CPU. (32M digits took about 34 minutes)
Temps climbed up to 67C, fan speed peaked about 600rpm.

Other temps as follows:
Mobo 1/2/3 = 67C, 37C, 34C. I/O controller 63C. Memory controller 55C.

When SuperPI was complete, CPU temp dropped down to 44C within 3-5 minutes.

I'll need to determine where the Mobo 1 temp is collected, and research if additional cooling is necessary.

In short, my mobo appears stable and I'm pretty content with it....🙂

Glad thats fixed, Newegg has the boards again so I grabbed one. To bad Intel uses junk h/s. I'm using a Thermalright w/ a Thermaltake fan. Guess I'll use my fan controller because of the 4 pin mobo header and my fan is a 3 pinner.

Hi Chaps...

intresting reading regarding this board via this forum...

i too had to opp for expensive memory also in order for this board to run
at its full speed with stability...

i am using crucial pc-6400 running @800 timings 5-5-5-12 voltage 1.8v
never had no problems as this memory is validated by intel..

anyways, finally download intels utilities...hip hip, however all works fine other than it dosent detect my fan speed.
cpu im using is PD 950 and runs at 35c via zalman 9500 AT...sweet.

i was wondering if maybe this is why im not getting any fan speeds using
zalmans setup.

finally, is everyone using ide setup for sata2? hence no f6 driver for achi.

all your replys would be very much appreciated...
cheers....

u need to open the folder where the idu unzipped it self. then run the smbus setup ur self. this will fix the problem with temp reporting!
