That air bubble on your NIKEs doesn't make you run faster, it doesn't get you to jump higher, it doesn't get the ladies to give you BJ's so why spend the extra 50 bucks to get a pair of sneakers with air in the heel? Why not just get the 40 dollar pair that perform just the same. You're spending money on a mod that isn't worth anything. God I hate all these Nike Air wearers. They're such pricks, they think that just because they have some air in their soles they can run faster than me, and I've been training for 25 years. They just slip on their air maxes and pull up along side me at the starting line thinking they can dominate me just because their shoes have extra weight on them. When I blow by them and their loud panting and feet scuffing along the pavement I laugh! They will never be able to compete with me just becuse they have Zoom Air or Max Air or whatever, its a waste of money, looks stupid, and they are definitely not running faster because of it. IT is so stupid. I hate everyone that wears shoes with NIKE AIR on them. Being a runner for the past 25 years I know what makes a real runner and it's not the shoes. These new pretty boys with their Nikes should go crawl back to their momma's houses because we all know that they are just rich little assho|es that don't do anything except spend the money of mommy and daddy.

I hope you people can see what he is trying to do here and don't actually think that he is pissed off at people that wear Nike Air.

You have to be kidding me. You can't honestly believe people buy Nike Airs because they think they can run faster with them. I don't see why people care what other people do. Don't say you don't care either, otherwise you wouldn't bring it up. If I want to pay $150 for some Shox or Air Max why should anyone care but me? Maybe it's because they're comfortable or maybe I just like the style. It'd be like me saying to gamers, "Why would you pay $2000 for a computer to play video games?" You wear your Payless or Walmart shoes and let people wear whatever they want to wear.

It's pretty obvious what the person who started this thread is trying to do, but for all you idiots that can't figure it out, let me spell it out for you. If you change Nikes, or Nike Airs, or whatever in his original post to exhausts or spoilers or wings or body kits it's almost exactly like other people's rants about why they hate "ricers." His racing is foot racing, but he's comparing it to drag racing. His training is running, but he's comparing it to those who say they've been modding cars for years on end. Pretty boys with Nikes at the end of his rant are like RICERS who everyone says just spend mommy's and daddy's money.
He most likely doesn't care at all about people who wear Nikes with air in them (or the Reebok Pump) but instead he's trying to show how stupid people sound when they go off on rants about these RICERS. People wear shoes with crap all over them because they look better just like most people who put big spoilers on their cars think that that makes their ride look hotter.
Some of these responses just prove his point... People are all like, "you don't actually think that people think they can run faster with the air do you?" And this same thing goes for people who put cheap mods on their cars, ie ricers. They don't really think that their wing will make them drive faster but it will look cool.

DING DING DING!!! WE HAVE A WINNER! I thought I had made it pretty obvious but I guess my sarcasm wasn't strong enough and my point wasn't good enough. I thought we had some good nerds here in these forums but I guess they can't spot a good fake rant when they see one.

Edit: made it bold

I run. I've run for years. I've run 13.1 mile half marathons. Nike air running shoes are not a joke, not a bragging status, and are most certainly not the "rice" of the shoe industry.

The soles in the shoes make for a lightweight, high energy absorbing cushion, that doesn't break down quickly like the foams and gels that many competitors use.

Every sport has it's posuers. Golf has the squids that golf once a year but think they are gods gift to the golf course when they stroll up with their Big bertha driver that they spent $300 on. That driver doesn't do dick when you don't have a good swing to begin with.

You've also got your hunters with their $800 bows and their $3000 shotguns that don't do sh!t if you can't shoot in the first place.

You've also got the testoteronely challenged who buy a fire breathing V8 Camaro but can't control the wheel spin on take off and get dusted by some kid in a civic.

Every type of sport and competition has it's wankers. For many of us runners, nike's make one of the best cushioned, lightest weight shoes on the market.

[EDIT:] need to change the batteries on my sarcasm detector.

I've run for years too. I have worn and still do wear Nikes sometimes. I was just trying to point out that their patented air bubble can be considered as extraneous as a big spoiler or loud exhaust for some people. Why is this? Well, I have also worn New Balance shoes, which, for me, are much much much more comfortable, and THEY DON'T HAVE AN AIR BUBBLE. Sure the air serves a point, sometimes just a superficial one, but its definitely not necessary and people could carry on rants about their pointless existence just like they do about car mods.

Plus, I would never actually race in a huge pair of bulky sneakers with huge air bubbles and covered in plastic. Racing shoes are tiny.

Out of curiosity....how much do you weigh?

I go close to 200 pounds and I appreciate as much cusioning as I can possibly get. An EVA midsole dies too quickly on me and the shoes break down too fast. The air soles are much more resilient.

And yes, we can argue for hours on this, but I won't subject you to it :)

I worked at a technical running shoe store for a couple years so I've got a pretty good comprehension on the differening technologies ;)

I wear Nike and Adidas.. I find they make the only shoes that I actually like the looks of... I don't care about the air, but I like some of Nike's designs.

I weigh about 165. So I suppose your larger self may need cushioning that lasts longer but it depends on how long your shoes last really (edit, in terms of other things besides cushioning, like treads). New Balance shoes really feel the best for me and seem to last the longest. They may be ugly, but I love em now. I used to always make fun of my dad (who weighs about 200 lbs, still runs and still swears by NB) for wearing them because they were so ugly but I suppose I shouldn't have knocked something till I tried it, because they are great shoes, regardless of appearance.

Anyway, this really wasn't supposed to be a thread about running shoes so I'll stop now.

Okay, I realize that this was a sarcastic thread and not really about running shoes, but I have to say that I much prefer New Balance to Nike. My track racing shoes are Nike Zoom Waffles, which are very nice, but all my other shoes, my XC spikes, my practice shoes and my everyday sneakers are New Balance. I just threw out my old NB 636s with 2000+ miles on them because the fabric on the heel was wearing out and replaced them with NB 714s. I've only bought one pair of NB sneakers that I disliked, and those were craptacular 608s. I needed some new shoes bad, and the store was out of running shoes so I figured a pair of cross trainers would suffice. Ugg! I didnt like those at all. But all of NB's running shoes have fit me perfectly and last forever.

I never really liked Nike's runing shoes, other than their racing Zoom series.

Okay, back to ricers. :)

Yea, I know the whole gist of the thread and everything, but since everyone's talking about shoes now anyway...

I've recently been looking for a new pair of basketball shoes. Why does everything have to look like it came off a UFO anymore? All I want is a normal pair of black sneakers that aren't shiny or gaudy. It's seriously annoying. :|

And the analogy between ricers and the shiny space shoes is a little bit better than the Nike Air IMHO. People can have their minor design changes like a small visible air bubble or a small spoiler and I won't even notice. However, when people wear shoes like this I laugh at them, just like I'd laugh at someone who goes overboard on their car.

Thanks for clearing that up Yakkum. Since I'm such an idiot I didn't see the connection. Maybe it was the fact I don't spend all hours on this board keeping track of other threads.

People are entitled to their opinion, if it looks good, I buy it.. I know a shoe can't make me do stuff that I couldn't do before, but I do know that some shoes are meant for certain things.. So yeah, whatever floats their boat.
