This phone kicks a lot of ass. With that being said, what is everyone's root method of choice? Any issue with using unrevoked? I'll probably be doing this via a mac and this is one method that I found with plenty of mac specific instructions.

What about apps? Anyone have must-have suggestions?

Phone numbers in emails aren't shown as hyperlinks on my Droid Incredible either, but if I tap on one it switches to Phone with the number already pasted in. Same with an address, a single tap asks me if I want to launch Maps.

Hah, look at that. I never even tried because it wasn't a hyperlink. Thanks.

Unrevoked works fine,

I like http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ obvoiusly 🙂

The Google Apps are the big draw, I like Jort, it pulls data from your Google Calendar and has a good widget for free.

Chrome to Phone and the Firefox extension are great, especially when you're setting up your bookmarks on the phone, saves time with typing in URL's on the virtual keyboard.

Set CPU (just buy it)
Astro File Manager (pay for it)
Rom Manager (paid as well)
TV.com
Google Finance
Google Voice
Skype

I'm using cyanogenmod 6.1.2 with the savage 1.3.4 kernel. Took the extended battery out and am back to the stock battery. Charged it up yesterday to 100% and took it off the charger at 2 pm. I used the phone for a few calls, some angry birds, have push notifications set up so I get a lot of texts, emails, alerts, etc. I have wifi on 100% of the time (no sleep), and gps. Right now, at 8:13 am, I am down to 53% battery.

SetCPU is free if you are a member of the XDA forums. Dont forget Titanium backup, the paid version! 🙂

Have you messed with set cpu at all?

Interesting thing happened a couple days ago. My wife's Evo downloaded and applied a system update. After it rebooted, Swype kept force closing. I went into settings and disabled it and switched to the default keyboard.

Turns out the update gives you an official (non-beta) version of Swype, but it conflicts with the beta version if you have that installed. In order to fix it, you have to uninstall Swype, then reboot, and the official version should show up as an option.

As many of you know, Swype is a keyboard where you slide your finger across the letters instead of tapping (though you can still tap if you want; it's also used for entering words not in Swype's dictionary). The company that makes it has not released it to the public. Instead, you have to either get in on the beta or hope that your phone's manufacturer or carrier negotiates to have it preloaded. I guess in this case, HTC or Sprint must have just negotiated a deal to get Swype on the Evo.

Another good thing is if you are currently part of the beta, you can transfer your beta license to another device that doesn't have Swype included. So if you have a spare phone or want to give it to a friend or family member, that works too.

Has anyone had any trouble flashing another recovery? I've had Clockwork (regrettably) since i rooted in June, but it doesn't seem to clear the davlik cache and battery stats. I've been trying to flash Amon_RA, via Rom Manager and through ADB, but it keeps fucking up in ADB, and says it is flashed in Rom Manager but is still Clockwork.

Running CM 6.1.2 with Savage 1.3.4 kernel as well. WOW. Stock battery was at 20% after 24 hours this morning. Definitely a killer combination.

Gonna try out the newer Savage kernels later this week.

Heads up. I tried the latest savage kernel yesterday and it hosed my phone. Gallery kept force closing and even after trying a few tips from the web, the only fix was to flash back to 1.3.4 which fixed my force close issues with the gallery. Everything is back to normal again with good battery life.

Sounds like I'll be sticking with what I've got lol. I'm still amazed at the battery life with this setup...downright overjoyed!

I read on another forum that a guy was getting better battery life by charging his phone via his PC. I've alway/mostly used the wall charger.
It does seem to increase battery life.

I broke down and bought an extended battery from Sprint yesterday, sure turns the phone into a brick 🙂

Asked to see one on a phone, the Sprint CSR pulled out his EVO with a shortcut to applanet on the home screen 😀
