anyone know if the 6990 would fit in an antec three hundred case? motherboard is a gigabyte X58A-UD3R

I have the 5870 now and even that is a pretty snug fit
Probably not because the HD 6990 is a longer card; same as the HD 5970

Also .. if you are planning to run it in the factory overclocked mode, i'd recommend a case with *superb* airflow; maybe a full tower. Do not cheap out on a case or PSU with a $700 mini-furnace inside.

My over-sized mid-tower Thermaltake Element G is fine for HD 6990 but i have to remove the HDD cage and it is barely adequate for HD 6990 + HD 6970 CrossFire-X3. Did i mention that i use two (2) 775W Thermaltake PSUs to power them?

no it would not fit so you would have to mod your case or get another. and after reading reviews why on earth would you even want to spend over 700 bucks on the 6990? it would be much more logical to go 6950 or 6970 crossfire. but hey if you want to spend more money for way more noise and less performance then go ahead. I guess some people will buy anything...

I really hope AT have an article for Northern Islands like they did for RV770 and Evergreen. I would really like to see their reasoning for creating this card.

And ofcourse you're dating a supermodel right or just your hand?

Actually, I agree with him. Neither one is particularly attractive in my book, and you don't need a super model on your arm to be able to judge that. (They would improve exponentially though with the amt. of liquor consumed.)

What I was wondering is if anyone here thinks they still have a job affiliated with nVidia after these pics showed up all over the net? :)

Hey Castiel, you mentioned awhile ago that WS revolution is "good enough". I'm still torn between the maximus iv and the ws revolution. What would I miss out on if I decided to get the cheaper revolution instead? (Been doing some research and can't get any clear answers.) I haven't done overclocking before so I don't know what to expect, but I do plan on doing so in the future.

I suppose one could make his peace with the power draw/heat eventually(not me, thanks), but the noise is a major drawback for this card. I imagine you'd have to yell for others to hear you over the fan.

The Bottom Line

After further testing the Radeon HD 6990 we are happy to see such a large difference in performance compared to the GeForce GTX 580. The reason being is due to price, a GeForce GTX 580 is still $500 online. The Radeon HD 6990 is over $200 more, at $709.99 currently. However, that $200 really is buying you a lot more performance. Sure, you can put in another GTX 580, but that combo is going to cost you $1000! So, for $700, you do get a very good deal on performance for the gaming enthusiast. There is also the power comparison, for 100 watts more, you really get a ton more performance.

The Radeon HD 6990 shines when it is overclocked. We are able to match and exceed Radeon HD 6970 CrossFireX performance simply by overclocking both GPUs. We didn't even need to raise the Voltage to match 6970 CrossFireX performance. It is kind of dissapointing to us, however, that for this higher price you do have to overclock it on order to match the performance of dual-6970 CrossFireX video cards which are cheaper, but at least it can be done. The BIOS OC option doesn't buy you anything in-game if you just use it, you will need to overclock the memory frequency as well.

Overall, we have a better impression of the AMD Radeon HD 6990 now. If you are looking for an all-in-one dual-GPU package, this is it right now. It offers a power efficient design, and performance that is astonishing for this price.'

I wonder if he will change his tune with the 590 coming out now ? The 590 being more expensive and a little slower, but quieter than the 6990.
