I didn't even get a chance to play last night but hopefully I will tonight. I added a couple of people from AT so I'm looking forward to playing with you guys.

As far as single player, is the hardest difficulty unlocked at the beginning? I think I'm going to go straight to the hardest setting.

yes. The AI is VASTLY improved. and if you hear drop ships run for cover. :\

I just got done playing Halo 3. The controls on reach are different; lol, the first lvl was annoying, I was trying to melee grunts, and couldn't figure out where the melee button was. I'm using the recon config now. They moved the melee, and the reload/action buttons.

yes this is very annoying. i kept getting killed online due to the new controls. i kept pressing B to melee for the kill but would change grenades, and i'd die. then i started wanting to press the left thumbstick in like in cod games, and that just zoomed me in resulting me in dying.

i finally switched to recon and melee feels natural, but now i keep switching grenades when i want to reload. same with when i'm picking up a weapon.

i'm going to get used to recon, but it just seems like a huge fail on bungie's part to not include a 'classic' control setup that mimmicks halo 3's scheme. why grenade type changing is a face button baffles the shit out of me, because that is a button that is used much less than melee or reload, and isn't a button that really needs to be pressed in the heat of battle.

in this day and age i just don't see why the hell games aren't 100% full customizable like most PC games are.

We knew the controls were gonna have to change drastically with the addition of a exclusive heavily used action button(power ups) . I was bumper jumper in H3 and now I'm using recon. I keep using power up when I want to jump and reload when i want to melee. I'll have to do a few custom games with melee only to really get the brain finger muscle memory ingrained.

eh halo 3 had powerups as well dude, and i believe it was one of the bumpers that were used for those as well. RB if I remember correctly. pretty sure LB was for the grenade type selecting.

We started the campaign on legendary last night and just went through the first mission. We then played some firefight just to try out some of the new weapons and after that we jumped into multiplayer (mostly arena matches).

Anybody else notice that barely anyone uses mics? I remember it being the opposite with every other halo game where everyone was communicating.

We were also plagued by horrible teammates which is expected but I held my own in k/d considering I'm not fully knowledgeable of the maps and weapon spawns.

Remember that Halo 3 also had dual wielding which is no more. The RB/LB buttons were used to pick up weapons and reload also. When you weren't dual wielding, LB was used to change grenades.

I managed to play through 5 missions so far coop on legendary. Pretty good, pretty difficult but not as hard as Call of Duty 4/ MW2 on veteran.

the one that bothered me the most was RB being melee. i just don't understand the logic behind taking it off a face button by default and replacing that face button with a button that changes grenade types, that won't be used nearly as often and not as frantically either.

the face buttons are much easier to access than the bumpers.

i'm a software engineer, and from a design point of view, i just don't see any reason in it. i'd like to ask bungie about the reasoning behind this heh.

I think it may be because if it was B again, you cannot turn and melee at the same time, since both actions require your right thumb.

yes but the dual wield button also doubled as a grenade and grenade is still there.

the power up in reach needs to be exclusive use. So they took out a split use and subbed with an exclusive use.

I was not going to buy this right now either, but I made the mistake of going to Fry's yesterday, and it was on sale for $45. I could not resist, but I have too much other stuff to do right now .

What would be the point of jet packing in a fire fight? It is far slower movement wise than jumping and you aren't very nimble in the air. Sounds like you just make yourself a sitting duck to me. Hologram is far more useful to me.
