Okay 6 and a half hours logged (I am at work now lol) and it is a much better game than Halo 3. The first two chapters of single player (did coop with 4 people on Legendary) are really good and challenging. Multiplayer is really good and some of the maps are great. Others aren't so great, especially on certain gametypes. Team Snipers is still extremely gay (imo).

I am very impressed as of yet. Oh and if anyone wants to play go ahead and add me. Good or bad, so long as you have a mic, we'll do okay.

Also, not sure if it was because of the time of night or just the amount of players online, but nobody had a mic. I mean the only people I talked to were my friends in a party and one British kid.

This is good to hear. Halo 3 was the first (and only) Halo game I actually purchased and it was "ok" at best.

My copy will be waiting on my porch when I get home. GT is phobic99 if anyone wants to dominate a noob. 😀

If you have room make sure you install the game to your HDD.

Installing a game to your Xbox 360 HDD can be quite beneficial for some games by decreasing load times but, in some cases, the game can actually take longer to load -- Halo 3. With Halo: Reach set to launch on September 14th, many may wonder if they should install the game on their HDD and invest 6.6GB of space so they can enjoy Halo: Reach at an optimal level.

We have conducted a test to see which option is better and help you decide if you should or shouldn't install the game to your HDD. These tests were conducted straight off the game's menu system with default settings in place.

Installed: Initial Load Screen to the appearance of Microsoft Game Studios Logo: 10.3 seconds.
Not Installed: Initial Load Screen to the appearance of Microsoft Game Studios Logo: 12.0 seconds.

Installed: Opening Mission: 8.1 seconds.
Not Installed: Opening Mission: 21.4 seconds.

Installed: Firefight: 21.6 seconds.
Not Installed: Firefight: 45.1 seconds.

Installed: Custom Game Load: 9.7 seconds.
Not Installed: Custom Game Load: 28.7 seconds.

Installing the game certainly seems to be a worthwhile case

heh sounds good, but i gotta say it takes quite a bit more than playing online for a few hours to be able to really judge whether online maps are good or not 😛

i do like they remade ivory tower from halo 2, that map owned.

It is not just the maps, but the game types chosen for the maps. Team Snipers on the Cage is a horrible choice. That map is much better suited for a faster, Slayer Classic / Slayer / FFA gametype. Some of the maps are excellent designed structures (not to mention the Ascension remake). I don't like some of the maps with AR start and feel they are much better suiting for DMR starts, but that is my opinion.

There are a few kinks that need ironed out (input lag can get bad on invasion, but overall it is very fun). The gameplay is that Halo style you know, but more like Halo:CE than the ones preceding it. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I initially enjoy the game. Shields are fairly weak, and may go down very quickly, however, it takes a good amount of body damage to deplete health. Only 1 headshot though. Also, the melee needs tweaked. If someone has no shields and you melee them, they die. If they have even the slightest bit of shield and you melee them, it depletes their shield and they have full life.

oh shit there is an ascension remake? that was like the ONE map on halo 2 that i could never get a good strategy to and would always get my ass handed to me.

I only got a single match on Ascension last night (and I was reminded of the amazing Tower of Power games we used to have). It was Elite Slayer (which is extremely fun - roll is OP!). We ended up completely dominating (50 - 19 lol). It is not one of those crappy "remake but different" remakes that appeared in Halo 3. The map is identical to how I remember it, just in much higher res.

Also, during the campaign I should note I experienced some frame rate slowdown during the in engine cutscenes at the beginning. I am not sure if it was from network lag or the 360 actually straining. The maps are huge and in the first 2 episodes of campaign, we had only the initial hiccup. The rest was perfectly smooth. Your actual character / armor / colors import into both cutscenes and gameplay flawlessly.

I can not stand Ivory Tower or whatever the remake is called. That map was terrible in Halo 2 and it continues to be terrible. 3 out of 4 matches I played at lunch were this garbage crap.

Also, if anyone wants to play just add me. The only requirement I have is when someone is running behind me about to assassinate me I can get a "hey panda, there is someone coming up behind you".

ivory tower was/is one of my favorite maps. im excited to play it again.

EDIT:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::>
i lied.. i forgot what ivory tower was.. i was thinking of lockout..

ivory tower was average..

my bad..

Funny, I thought Ivory Tower was pretty fun. We always had a good time on that map.

Heh, I almost never wait for shipping on something I could pick up on midnight! I just wish I had taken the day off... so tired and still 2 hours to go.

Liking it so far. Got some input lag during coop campaign so I switched to matchmaking. No problems there. New engine is solid. Not as impressive as the Frostbite in Bad Company 2, in my opinion, but still light years better than Halo 3, which clearly still had models and such from Halo 2 (not to mention terribly optimized). The new engine is much faster, much smoother, much better overall. Also a major fan of the DMR over the old battle rifle. Still not a fan of Bungie's matchmaking; it's faster finally, but I still prefer MW2's ability to pick what style of match you want as opposed to Bungie's attempt at democracy. Seriously, there are some days when I just wanna play regular deathmatch and not be out-voted to Shotty Snipers. Overall, definitely step up from Halo 3.

According to Fedex, my game is still on their delivery truck. It better be home when I get there, my friend got his copy though and said the game rocks.

Edit: Anyone know how good that Limited Edition is and if it is worth the extra $20?

Firefight with 4 people on Legendary is tough, and I mean real tough. But I would be down.

As far as the Limited Editions go, I just stick with regular until six to eight months after and pick the Legendary Edition from the local BX for like $30.
