Who has the best promotion?

Amazon.com has a GTA1V license plate (big deal) - $89.99 w/ free shipping
Buy.com - no extras - $89.99
Walmart.com has a t-shirt with the bundle - $89.82 + $6.97 shipping. Not sure if t-shirt is available in store. Website does not have the option to pick up in store.
Bestbuy.com - free poster with either edition - $89.99

I'll probably just pick it up at Wal-Mart that morning before work.

Gamestop (at least the one under where I work) is offering 20% off GTA4 with a tradein. I'll have to check again tomorrow what the limitations are, but sounds good to me. I got some shit to get rid of.

$90 for this Fing game? Are you serious? I was going to buy a PS3 for this game but I do not like the feeling of being raped.

It's only $59.99. $90 is for the 1337 Special Edition that comes with a soundtrack CD, art book, lock box with keys and key chain, and a duffel bag.

At least he didn't overreact or anything.

"Buy.com - no extras - $89.99"

Yup, that definitely did look like a bundled package. My bad for being shocked.

Seeing you like to get raped, go buy a new DVD release for $25.

"no extras" in this case means "no incentive offers to buy from them"
Amazon gives you, on top of the special edition normal package, a license plate. I for one, don't care to spend $90 on a game, so I'm simply getting the normal edition for $60.

I believe payment should be based on enjoyment. Personally, as I've enjoyed every GTA game since III, I imagine that I will be quite smitten with GTA IV. I'm not hurting for money by any means, so in my mind it makes sense for me to buy the more expensive version, as it means more profit for the people responsible for making a product that will bring me such enjoyment. But that's just my take on it; if I could, I'd just donate an additional $20 to the development team and be done with it.

Kind of off topic, but I see a lot of people talking about "supporting the developers"--do they really see more money if their game does well? I would hope that most would have performance-based incentives--perhaps based on copies sold, for instance--but I'm curious to learn about the general trend of the industry. I'm sure it varies from company to company.

Regardless, I doubt the devs will see another dime if you buy the SE over the vanilla edition, but I don't actually know.

PS3 version of the game to require atleast 3340KB of HDD space. That's right--3MBs! 🙂

Now this might be a cause for concern for some people, but personally it makes me happy. I'll happily sit through an install if it's going to help the loadtimes--especially in a massive open world like this one. 😛

On a more serious note--we're still not sure if Rockstar has been able to ditch the loading when entering every store, house, or building. Saints Row was able to pull it off, but something tells me that they're going to stick to this model in order to get as much detail in the world. Anyone hear otherwise?

Both X360 and PS3 get the regular and special edition GTA IV.

It's already been stated that there will be no loading after you enter the game.

Edit: Outpost.com is selling GTA4 for the 360 for $51.99 today (4/11).

Damn, I can't decide whether to spend $60 on the PS3 version or $460 on a 360 and the 360 version 🙂

Do you have a strong preference for either controller? I mean, obviously it doesn't make sense to spend $460 (where are you getting $460 from? None of the 360s are $400 anymore; premium is $350 and elite is $450) just so you can play some unknown episodic content and so you can use a different controller. But if you're even considering it, you're obviously considering getting a 360 already. So I think it comes down to which system you'd buy future cross-platform games on. For me, that decision is made based on a combination of which controller I prefer and which systems my friends play on (if it's an online multiplayer game). If you'd buy all of those games on the PS3 and you'll only use the 360 for exclusives, you may find yourself regretting that decision, especially since you have to pay to play online on the 360. Much easier to justify the $40/year when it's your primary system.

This level of exterior detail continues into the insides of buildings, as demonstrated when Niko draws a pistol and cautiously walks inside one of the brownstone buildings in downtown Broker. As Niko passes through the door (with no pause for loading - it's possible to play GTA from start to finish without a single load time) it opens up to a dingy room with a battered sofa in one corner and a kitchen down the hallway. Niko can walk along while aiming and the camera sits just behind his shoulder so the player can clearly see their surroundings, as well as the targeting reticule. Unfortunately there are no undesirables lurking in the shadows so we didn't actually get to experience combat firsthand. Instead Niko holsters the pistol and walks through the back door and out in the rear alley.

When we left the taxi depot earlier, one thing was immediately noticeable: there are no load times when leaving or entering buildings. And there are no load times, period, according to Brown. "You can basically play the game from beginning to end without a single load screen," he explains. And it won't be affected by your choice of console between Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, either: "They will both be the same," says Brown - although he couldn't confirm at this point whether the PS3 uses caching on its hard disc. "We're still trying to solve all the riddles on both platforms; there is no target console... obviously it was in development a little bit longer on Xbox 360, just because people had access to the tools earlier, hence the PS3 [version currently] being slightly behind, but we'll probably be catching up in about a month on that. But in terms of actual development for both, to be honest I think they both have their own pleasures and pains. But the ultimate goal is for them both to be fantastic come October."

I have been considering buying a 360 for the last year or so but have never pulled the trigger. I really like the PS3 controller and have only used the 360 controller a couple of times.

I would play exclusives on both systems. It seems like most MP games have a larger audience on the 360 platform which is why I am considering it. I really wouldn't have a primary system and would play whatever system has the best games at the time. None of my friends have time to play games anymore so it would really just be about random matches.

I remember the first time I played Resistance MP... It was about 1.5 years after the game was released and there was NOBODY online. Very disappointing.

Haha, you are right... I bought my PS3 this past August which would make it only about 9 months old. Even more reason to pick the right system for the game!

Had to preorder this for PS3 the other day. It's the only game I've preordered since FF7 and for some reason I'm really excited about it. I also just went to a B&M store because I'm not about to sit and wait for Fed EX or UPS to deliver.

Also this game is going to sell like hotcakes on both consoles so the multiplayer should be no worry as people will be coming out of the woodwork for the online portion. It's not like PSN is bad, it's just that us PS3 are waiting for a real good reason to hop online.
