I'd much rather have no damage than get pissed off at the AI drivers messing up my car.

Don't let your B-spec drivers drive on the wrong tires then...

Just let a B-specer out in my Ford GT, 700 odd BHP, thought that it would be an easy B-spec win in the MR Cup. Turned out to be a real struggle. Ended up with the front bashed in and the rear bumper hanging off too!

Yeah I just did that one and got 1st. Easy 1.5 mil. Ford GT was easy too. The Nascar around the ring is impossible for me. I can't overpower everyone with HP so I'm screwed.

Oil change buys you some power. I have let B-spec run it for a while too - it's now run in and putting out 890 BHP. I might retry the race (coz I sucked at it too).

Has anyone invested any time in spec-b yet? I'm trying to get into it, but my driver is doing his best to imitate a female driver. During one race, he literally spent 5 minutes trying to get unstuck from a wall. Does it get better, or will the driver remaining retarded?

I'm up to lvl 23, and yes they get better. But they still piss me off to no end sometimes when it comes to passing or slowing down on corners they don't need to. My brother seems to really like bspec, he's up to lvl 26.

I'm only up to level 16, and yes the B-spec driver does stupid stuff like brake and drop in behind the opposition, rather than squeeze down the inside. He also brakes randomly when following, like the track with the loop in it - I've seen the driver hammer round at ~100 mph, so why is he sitting behind another car at 85 mph rather than going round the inside or outside?

He also has developed a nasty habit of being really courteous- if he stuffs up and runs off the track he will wait for everyone to go past before attempting to rejoin 🙁

I had my driver sit spun out on the side of the road doing nothing for 3 minutes before I ended the race. Just sat there. I've never seen my driver once ever rejoin a race that he spun out in.

LOL..... I've seen them do that. I can't stand doing bspec, only way I can do it is stick my driver in one of those X2010 cars and walk off... he has to do something pretty bad if he can't win in that car.

Do tyres and fuel come into play in any part of GT5?

Or have I just not got far enough? - I'm running soft tyres for 10+ laps and don't notice much difference... and the fuel gauge always reads full...

Edit: I see that it happens in Endurance @ level 25 - I'm level 24 lol

Do cars ever get dirty even? Does structual damage ever occur? I see these clean and repair options but no matter how much crashing I know I've done, they are always mint.

Damage certainly occurs, but it is more noticeable at higher levels.

Dirt is really noticeable on the rally stages, on the others - not so much.

wow, the last series of license tests are really fun (obviously ignoring the disqualifications and tediousness of passing them).
the ferrari, lambo, and that 1967 race car handle sweet as hell. then they threw in the 2010 camaro and it felt like i was driving a truck.

I bought this game on launch, but did first license and one race...

How should I get started best? (I am a veteran of GT2, GT3, GT4)

personally, i've been doing all the licenses and other challenges hoping it will give me a car I can use in races.
it also gives me a lot of xp and cash to buy other cars.

I skipped all the license tests and just went straight to A-Spec. I doubt I'll ever do them unless I go out and buy a wheel.

I used to play GT games like crazy. I had GT5 prologue, but thought it was boring. I just got a PS3 and am kinda interested in this game. Racers are always nice when I get burnt out on other games. Is the career just like the old ones and Forza, where you just race to unlock new races and try to beat them, not any of the stupid situational stuff that was on prologue?

i don't fault you. i cannot imagine playing the game without a proper wheel setup.
i felt like the fucking Stig when i was driving the gallardo, countersteering and all.

never played forza but gt5 is nothing like prologue.

i've never driven a F430 in real life either so i can't comment on the realism. but i spent 2 hours trying to get gold, or at least silver, in the S licenses and it was fun as hell (although frustrating at times when i get disqualified when the other guy bumps me).

I have a dumb question for you guys. Does GT5 have a difficulty setting? I am just wondering because I wanted to pick it up this weekend.

New patch today v1.06 allows remote races for B-Spec through the Gran Turismo website and allows tracks from the Course Maker to be used in online races, and give you more experience points. It also supports multi-monitor, multi-PS3 setups, and optimizes the speed at which games are saved.

Yeah, its a nice patch. Really improves the game.

Some things I really liked:
Improved the Online Salesroom (looks like they've about double the cars you can find there)
Steering sensitivity adjustment for the joysticks (big help as too many cars weren't steering right I felt)
Fully Customizable Transmission finally is (can adjust individual gears now)
Power Output tuning option (adjust output 50-100%, big help for some cars, and can help you for races where output is restricted).
Weight Ballast tuning option (can add weight to help with weight balance)

There's some other things like AI adjustment and Rewards and Experience adjustments (seems like they've lowered credits some but upped experience).

The saving is definitely sped up and so overall its snappier to get around. Load times over time have gotten a lot better for me (just in general not from this patch), although they could still tweak the interface to speed things up (get rid of the unnecessary crap like the Delivery Truck).

Personally, there's still a ton of stuff I hope they change (in my opinion "fix"), but this update makes a lot of improvements, so if they keep at it like this, won't be too long before it might live up to what I felt it should have been from the start.

Well that blows. I am a mediocre racer at best.

Its really not till the extreme/top level races that you might have troubles with. There are a few harder races before but just skip them and do em later is what i did. I am definitely a mediocre driver at best and it was enjoyable so far!
