Ahh righto lol, I was confused because a friend on Facebook got it yesterday, and I was thinking it was because he lives in the US of A 🙂

/jealous. I heard some Radio Shacks are selling it early.. I may just stop by one on my way home from work today.

My local Gamestops aren't doing a midnight release (said there weren't enough pre-orders), so I'll be picking up my copy at 10am when the one next to work opens. Hopefully they let us take half a day like they usually do every year, which means I'll be leaving at 11am and hopefully installed, patched, and playing by 1pm.

G25 and fanatec wheel stand is already standing by. I am getting so hyped to play this. I think this is the most excited I've been to play a game since GTA4.

EDIT: Somebody needs to start a new GT5 racing night thread, too.

same, local gamestop not doing the midnight release either. i'll be up early to get some grocery shopping done then stop over there at 10am to pick up my game

Anyone who got it early, comment on the need to level up to unlock damage and mechanical damage, that I'm hearing about.
That seems wierd.
Still looking forward to trying the game though!

If that is true, it may not be a true "level up to unlock" case, but rather - the cars available for the lower-level licenses (or whatever system GT5 uses this go-around) are probably the "Standard" cars. I doubt there are many, if any, "cheap" cars that are considered "Premium" - only the Premium cars have accurately-designed interiors (for cockpit mode) and actual cosmetic/mechanical damage. You don't get that on the 800 or so Standard cars, and I have a feeling most of the 200 or so Premium cars are the upper-class street and racing cars, which in the game you can't afford at the lowest license levels.

Otherwise, I have heard of the game keeping some things unlocked until the Day 1 patch is installed - which part of that patch is probably bug fixes, but I have a feeling most of the patch is like a license key for many of the parts of the game, designed to keep them from being accessed before the official launch window (so people getting the game early don't get the nice things).

Yep. Picked one up and said "Oh shit, GT5 is out...".

I think Best Buy has a system that will warn cashiers that they can't sell it though. I know Walmart does and I've read about a couple of people that have found it on the shelf but the register wouldn't let them buy it until today.

It's mostly an amazing game overall, but I have a few gripes and will just mention those:

Here is my disclaimer: In terms of gameplay and what GT5 offers, it's badass. Lots of cars, lots of tracks, lots of stuff to do. I like it a lot. It's fun, especially with a wheel. But it aint perfect...

The rain effects don't look as cool as I thought they would. In fact, overall they're no where near as good looking as F1 2010s (ref: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVGOxvJ5BV0).

I love driving from the cockpit perspective, it's immersive and rad. Racing in the snow is way too difficult from this view (it's fine from a 3rd person perspective), but otherwise it's practically impossible. There comes a point where I dont care about the realism of GT, I care about the playability--make snow playable from the cockpit Polyphony! At some point, this is a video game and I want to play from the most interesting perspective.

Also, the graphics are mostly amazing. I mean some of tracks just have to be seen in their 1080P glory, but there are times where they're not too impressive. For one, the shadows look aliased to hell. I'm talking staircases for King Kong. You'll see this mostly during some of the really sunny tracks. In some cases models appear to consist of a low polygon count, but with high textures to it has this odd effect. It's kinda like the human models in the game--they look bad--particularly the faces. It creates this weird, hi-rez funk to the game. I dont know exactly what it is but there are times where I'm looking at the game and it looks kinda generic. 🙁

The load times are ridiculous. Even after going through the uber-install (50 minutes), the loading times in the menu system are tedious at best! I feel like everywhere I go I'm waiting from something to load. I'm not sure what's going on, but Polyphony needs to optimize this game some more.
