agreed, plus there is no HD hookup from a ps2, so upconversion would look like crap anyway

I believe you are mistaken... i've got my PS2 hooked to my TV with component video

i dont have a ps2, can someone clarify the supported resolutions of ps2?
i'm guessing 480p and 1080i?

It was a last-minute surprise that GT4 not only contained 480p, but also 1080i. While the look of the 1080i is the best it's just marginally better than the 480p mode. These modes will both look amazing on an HDTV, but there are still the classic PS2 jaggies from the lack of anti-aliasing. Just be warned that the game switches between the higher-resolution mode of your choice for the racing and the regular 480i mode for the menus and vice-versa. On our 65" Mitsubishi HDTV this means some flickering as the game goes from the racing segments to the menus and back again.

3. no online play

1. Can't drive without hitting the walls? Need tire marks to make the turn? ;)
2. GT3 had recordings of the real engines put in the game - I read somewhere. What did suck balls was the music... I hope they get decent music this time!
3. :|

Plus the reason GT doesn't have damage models is because of the licenses for the cars in the game - that's what I read from one of the head honchos of the game, though I can?t remember exactly how that affects the game.

1. I want tiremarks because that makes the game much more realistic for me.
2. GT sounds are horrible. I listened to a ton of demos and the Corvette sounds like a V6, M5 like a turbocharged bananamobile, etc. Forza on the other hand, simply awesome. They actually have a review of the sounds on VWVortex where they compare them to real life.
3. :D

The damage models is because PS2 cannot support it... too much processing for PS2 to handle... Not GT's fault but still...

The lack of damage models is for the same reason most games don't have them. The companies just don't want their cars to be banged up, and it's impossible for them to get every company to agree, with over 700 cars. I personally don't think it's because the PS2 can't process it, since there are games that do have it.

I'm really looking forward to this. :D Sure hope they've got it in Canada by tomorrow. But I do want to get a wheel some time...

I'm pretty sure PS2 hardware is the reason... this game has more processor usage than other PS2 racing games and they have to sacrifice some stuff...

Also, please don't tell me 700 cars... There are 42 Skylines alone.... jebus, that's like 7% of the cars :)

So the 1080i doesnt look any better?

My tv is a twat, it has two component inputs. One does 480i/480p, the other does 480p,1080i.

Are you absolutely positive that the menus are in 480i, and not 480p? If theyre 480i only, no 1080i for me, and Ill just wait for damn forza.

I'll be the first to say that 720p isn't noticably better than 1080i or vice-versa. When you do the math, at the resolution and frame rate 1080i runs at basically makes it almost indiscernible from 720p. Let me see if I can find the proof on that, because I know you aren't just going to thank me for correcting you :). And please remember, I said almost.

8.9 sounds good, i think it's fair to knock the game a point for no online play, i mean, online play can really make a game funner. Instead they're going to create another GT game to be online (to be announced later this year probably), and try and get more cash out of everybody.

I think the 8.9 stems from not only the lack of online play, but also the game being very similar to GT3 in a lot of ways. Why give GT4 a higher score when it borrows so much from it's predecessors? Of course, it's hard to build on a monster of a game like GT3 on the same hardware.

Just came back from EB w/ the game. The bastard had the game all day but didn't put it out until 6PM. Asshole. In other news, I'm gonna apply for a concealed firearm license. WTF's up w/ people standing in front of your garage smoking and drinking beer now a days? Go the fvck home!

Reports are that you'll have to play in 480i or switch cables back and forth.

Look towards the bottom here...link ...Seems like an awfully dumb thing to do with the game. Spend the extra half day and setup 1080i menus.

GT5 for PS3 will be the grand daddy of all racing games, just like it was when GT came out for PS.
