Goodbye Roger. Loved you as a member of the Red Sox, hated you as a member of the Blue Jays, and especially the Yankees. But, I fault Dan Duquette for you seeking employment elsewhere. I stood and clapped for your exit at Fenway during the regular season, and it was classy of you to acknowledge the fans who gave you the standing ovation upon your exiting the game, coming out of the dugout, waving and saluting the fans of Fenway. I'll never forget April 29, 1986, when you set a new major league record with 20 strikeouts. My Dad (who has since passed on) and I were watching the Whalers taking on the Canadiens on closed-circuit tv at the Hartford Civic Center in Game 7 of the 2nd round of the playoffs, and SportsChannel kept us on top of the 20K's, and cut live for the stikeout of Spike Owen, setting the record. Love him or hate him, baseballs losing one of the greatest pitchers of our era.

I thought it was really classy of the Boston fans to give him that standing 'O. Most of the people standing and clapping probably hate his guts, but understood that he was great for their team, and great for baseball as a whole.
