Will it update any of the US versions?

You mean the same US carriers that had Samsung produce a different phone for each of them and had Samsung remove front facing camera, FM radio, and added bloat like Bing search, and Telenav? D:. 2014 for T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint. 2020 for Verizon.:hmm:

Shit. Why does it have to be through Kies? I swear, that software is the buggiest, slowest, crappiest software I have had the misfortune of using.

99% of the Samsung hate here is based on:

1) Galaxy S screwup in the US.
2) Some oldass flip phone they had that somehow didn't go well.

lol. i wonder if working on the US editions of the phone turned out to be a negative effort. either they didn't get compensated enough by the carriers or they really see it as not worth their time and efforts to work on them. don't blame samsung though...

This means Vibrant and Captivate will get community ports fast (like, within a week of kernel source). Verizon's Fascinate? Umm.....

CDMA sucks.

If you're reading this site, you're surely capable of finding and using an Odin or Clockwork package.

Good for them. Kudos might be order. But they will 1) have to launch in the US timely, an 2) do it a few more times with the GS2 and 3 to shake off the negative rep.

So much for Samsung being low to update their phones.

It looks like the only way HTC users get an update is by purchasing a new phone :p

That, and their failures with their other Android phones. The Behold II, the Moment, the Transform. Though the Intercept was one of the first phones to get 2.2, it was still crap and broken.

I just don't trust Samsung to do it right. I'll reserve judgment on the SGSII, but I still wont buy it, even if I admit it's a good device.

Yup, I have Samsung hate. I have their Moment and it's still been broken since day one, they never fixed data lock-ups or GPS, plus problems with their Behold, Transform and didn't even bother to make their biggest selling phone (Galaxy S) work from the start shows me that Samsung doesn't care and will pump out crap because they know they can. I will not support Samsung again.

Blame the carriers? Bwahahahaha. True fanboy. Yeah VZW sucks for putting Bing on it, but seriously. Samsung's hate is well deserved.

Yeah I'm Samsung fanboy. :rolleyes:That's why my next phone will likely be iPhone5. At least Apple has enough balls to say FU to all the carriers and not get pushed around. They were the first and the only company that stood up to the carrier BS. Even Nokia in their heyday never challenged the carriers power and always nerfed and removed features at carriers request.

yep

This was the thing that pissed me off the most about Samsung phones. All these idiots would make thread "Froyo update available! Froyo will be released tomorrow!" Even though the "releases" were only for the i9000 which is NOT compatible with US models. Hell it took all the dev's over at XDA months to get a working Froyo build going after the i9000 dump.

It's the carriers who are to blame. They have to have features stripped and add in their own bloat before they ship the phones. I don't think they do much of that in Europe.

Orly?

So are you saying that Samsung isn't involved in developing OS's for their US phones? Because I could have sworn that Samsung released their builds via Kies on a regular basis. And the whole time I had my Vibrant, there was never a Froyo build released from Samsung.

Not even close.

Captivate reorient kernel was done the day *before* the original i9000 OTA.

The Vibrant actually has had a weak kernel dev crew. Good ROM guys though.

kernel is not the same thing as a full build.

That's because you're talking nonsense.

Reorient kernel = use i9000 ROMs without alteration. End of problem.

samsung has had some of the worst CS for nearly everything else they make. not sure why people thought phones would be different

normally id be quick to blame VZW for it but this is prob more samsung, at best they are equally at fault

What you posted has nothing to do with what I posted. Carriers in the US have features stripped such as a front facing camera that most of the other Galaxy S phones have. The US carriers also remove apps such as the wireless tethering app. Then they add bloatware. All of this makes it take them longer to release the updates after Samsung has released them. As we saw in another thread, Samsung recently released the source code for Froyo on the Fascinate, meaning that they are getting tired of the carriers taking so long to release their updates.

ok...we'll take this slow

Carriers in the US have features stripped such as a front facing camera that most of the other Galaxy S phones have
So you are saying that the carriers sit there with a screwdriver removing the FFC's when they receive them? No. Samsung did not put those in. How is that a carrier's fault?

The US carriers also remove apps such as the wireless tethering app.
But if Samsung had a Froyo release, it would be out there minus the tethering app.

Then they add bloatware.
see above

All of this makes it take them longer to release the updates after Samsung has released them.
my point is that Sasmung DOES NOT release updates for US phones. Look at your evidence for the contrary. They released Fascinate Froyo source code...when? And when do you think they got Froyo from Google?
