fibman, I'd answer your question but I've run into a problem at the moment. It seems that whever I turn on the PC, nothing appears on the monitor. Power seems to be reaching everything and the fan on the CPU seems to be spinning properly. The lights on the motherboard light up as well, but the screen is simply black. I've tried replacing the processor, video card, etc. but nothing seems to be working. If anyone has any ideas at all please feel free to let me know, this is very annoying.

sorry to hear that nova, not a clue as to what the problem might be.
I'm trying to install win xp and can't get through the install w/ out something going wrong.
It's most likely related to the twinx 3700.

This whole thing is just too funny to be really happening.
I bought the twinx 3700 because it's a perfect fit w/ the
asus p4c800 which ended up quitting after 1 day.
So I bought the gigabyte 8knxp to replace the asus
and now it also seems I have to spend even more money
to buy more memory to go w/ the gigabyte board.

Maybe I should get on asus's case and request a new
replacement mobo and just rma the qigabyte board.

Anand mentioned a Rev 2.0 of the 8KNXP Ultra ... is this coming out any soon?

Nova: did you try to clear the CMOS? (Push the little lever on the battery, wait 20 seconds push the battery back in place)?

On the F5 bios, I set everything to on Giga Raid, Intel Raid and Sata Raid, the Intel application software loaded but would not work right with the F5 bios,
But I installed it anyway and it works now. I had to reselect the Bootup sequence in bios then save.
I have mine booting from Intel Raid first, then then Sata Raid and Giga Raid last .
I did install all raid drivers on my system.
Intel has the 3.51 Raid ICHR5 on their sight and that's what I installed with the F5 Bios.
F6 Bios is suppose to support the Intel Raid 0+1 Intel ICHR5 support.
I'm not going to update to F6 yet beacuse my setup runs extrememly stable and fast right now.

I did have to install OS twice before it worked right.
I'm using a 128 stripe on the Intel ICHR5 chipset in raid with 2-WD Raptors
I also have 2- 30 gig IBM on Giaga Raid and 2-1200JB 120gis on Giga Raid and my CD Burnner and DVD Burnner on the Regular IDE ports.

I set up raid0 using 2 wd800jb drives. I did it both in win 98 and using the setup utility
when booting (pressing cntrl - G), but both times the results were the same.
A raid 0 array was created but I can't see it in windows.
It shows up in Device manager as array 0 but there's no drive letter assigned to it.
I never saw anything about assigning a drive letter during either of the processes.
Funny, the instructions don't mention anything about it either. I followed the instructions
for the giga raid utility in windows but no array can be seen.
What am I doing wrong ?

edit: I always helps to go and read the gigaraid manual, then you'll learn that you
have to fdisk the newly created array. ;)

I'm considering buying the GA-8IK1100 for a new computer I'm putting together and I've looked into the features of both and understand what each has to offer. However, when I look online for reviews it seems odd that there are hundreds of reviews for the 8KNXP but none of the cheaper 8IK1100... almost all the computer sales sites have the 8IK1100 available yet there is virtually no discussion about them in terms of reviews.

Am I missing something here? ie. the 8IK1100 is flawed or outdated already..

Just seems a little strange to me and I wanted to check with some people who know more than I do

Any comments would be appreciated,
Thanks!

i have 2 sticks of 512mb twinmos original pc3700 for my 8KNXP..
if i set memfreq to 2.0(460mhz) i get lots of errors in prime95..
the fastest stable settings with the F6 bios is 2.5-3-2-7..
is there some way i vcan better these figures?

also, if i choose top performance, the comp wont boot.

Hey all,

Just picked up the 8KNXP and I have a question regarding the built in LAN. I can't get manage to get a 100 Mb connection to my router (Netgear RT314). I have tried each port with the same result -- only 10 Mb. Swapping cables was no different. If I set the speed to anything other than "Auto negotiate" I end up with no connection. I think I have the latest drivers installed, I looked on Intel's site and Gigabyte's site.

I have tested with a cross-over cable directly between 2 machines and I can get a 100 Mb link. I suspect the router -- is there any known issues with this?

Thanks in advance.

I am reveiwing mb's for a new rig and am looking at the GA-8IK1100. Many web sites review the latest and greatest, loaded with options. Ever see a review of a car that has a V6 when a 300hp v8 is available, same concept.

The 8IK1100 lacks from the 8knxp a few expensive features that may or may not be of value to the buyer. The dual power DSP, a second set of Raid Sata ports, and a set of IDE raid ports. Next the 8knxp includes sata power cables, to get these separate which you would have to do with the 8IK1100, would cost about $12. To buy a pci card to add these extra disks would cost at least the difference in price between the 2 boards.

I have somehow posted this message to the main motherboards forum and it belongs here. Sorry to be double posting...

I have a potential problem with 8IK1100 version and it's 6 memory slots. I bought 6 PQI 512MB DDR400 modules to fill all slots. But as I have been unpleasantly surprised it seems they will not work (don't have the RAM yet). And Anand's statement below will NOT be true. Gigabyte's manual states that if you want to use all 6 slots you can use Dual Sided modules in slots 1,4 but only Single Sided modules in slots 2,3,5,6. Meaning that you will have to find 512MB modules that are single sided and if you care to research you will find that unfortunately such modules don't even exists yet.
So it's either 4GB of 1GB sticks or 2GB of 512 sticks because you can use 4 DS sticks, but 3GB is not achievable?
Sh** and I bought this board precisely because of the 6 slots AND after reading the review here. I'll take reviews with more than a grain of salt from now on.
Care to comment?

Form the GA-8KNXP review:
"Since the 875P chipset supports up to 4GB of memory and the 8KNXP Ultra has six DIMM slots, you'll be able to save cash on memory. That is, instead of buying four 1GB memory modules that are about four times as expensive as 512MB modules like you would be forced to do with desktop motherboards that only support four DIMM slots, you have the luxury of buying four 512MB modules and just two 1GB modules. Of course, unless you have applications that can use this much memory, there's no advantage to having six DIMM slots expect to say that they are all functional up to 400MHz."

Just to say that my IK1100 performs fine, no RAM problems or errors wit 4 x 512MB PQI DDR400, dual channel enabled. Have my CPU running overclocked form 2.4GHz (800FSB) to ~2900MHz (965FSB) at a safe 400MHz DDR with 1.66 multiplier. Updated to F8B BIOS. Haven't tried SATA support yet. Onboard 100Mbit LAN with a D-Link DSS-16+ switch running as it should.

One possible problem. Latest version of CPU-Z reports PAT not enabled!? How can I verify that it's enabled or not.

That issue should be fixed with the latest F8 bios revision, most recently released. I haven't been able to flash my board myself because my revision board needs to be replaced........so I can't confirm that it's fixed for sure....

I tried Bios F8 but during boot sequence in the SATA detection section it gave me an "unknown hardware " error.I believe it was was My Raptor 36gb SATA drive.
So i have to revert back to F6 .
I have to try F7 yet.

I had a KNXP die 2 weeks ago, everything also "lit up" but there was no visual. The PC shop told me it was probably the DPS2, they had a few of them go down.

Can somebody please explain or send me to page that explains ram timings??? ie 2-2-3-4. I have no idea what this is but it sounds important.

My system.
P4 3ghz,2gb ram, WD36gb SATA Raptor (boot), 3x 120 gb SATA, 1x 120 Seagate IDE HDD, 1x 80 gb WD 7200 rpm 8mb, Asus TI 4800 SF2 128mb, DVr106.

Here's a very good presentation on Ram in general.
ram basics
This link is to a thread at Corsairmicro specifically about the ga-8knxp and ram.
GA-8knxp thread
I did a search while I was there on the GA-8knxp and it turned up some other
threads as well.
You might try just going to www.corsairmicro.com and going into the ram guy's forum
and searching on your ram. There may be a thread specifically about your set up.
I'm not sure exactly what your question is concerning timings.. I probably wouldn't be
able to answer it anyway. I'm a noob more or less.
Hope the links help.

I'm considering a GA-8KNXP. I'll be using the following:
P4 3.0C
1GB PC-3200 (probably Kingston)
Dual 36GB Raptors RAID 0
Radeon 9800 Pro

I know there have been some RAM & SATA issues with this board.
Has anyone else tried the F8 BIOS with success?
Should I just avoid this mobo?

TIA

Just updated to the F8 Bios, works fine now.
I went to the Intel sight and downloaded the latest ICHR5 ver. 3.52 first and installed without rebooting.
Went into bios and flashed the F8 from a floppy, diabled reset to old bios option in flash utility.
Worked like a charm, I tried this with the F6 and it did not work, skipped the F7 and went to the F8
I did not have to rebuild my raid setup. They finally got it right with the F8 bios.

Bought this babe 2 weeks ago (8knxp) and not 1 problem as of yet.

Running win xp sp1
p4 3gig 800fsb
kingston hyperx 3200 - 2 x 512k matched - KHX3200AK2/1G

Just one thing i would like to ask - in the bios under Integrated Peripherals under the sata raid there is 2 choices - sata raid and sata base.

i used the raid and it recognised my drive but when i changed it to base i get nothing and winxp cant do anything with it when choosing base mode.

So exactly what is sata base .

How many HD do you have? Are they SATA? Use the base setting for a single SATA drive on the Intel ICH5R controller. [You have to map it to IDE Pri. Master]

Hi Nova, I was wondering if the motherboard ended up being the problem. I currently have a box with the same issue and am considering what to pursue next. The video card is fine. The power supply seems to be fine according to my PCI POST card, but the BIOS seems to not work at all. Let me know how it went. If anybody else would like to chime in, that would be great.

I had major issues that took over a month to get resolved when I first got this board. Turns out it did not like the Geil RAM I had purchased for it. I ended up RMA'ing a perfectly good board(Thank you Gigabyte Tech Support- NOT). It took them a month to even look at it, at which point they determined it was my RAM. They sent the board back to me which was DOA. They took another week to send another board, which thankfully worked. I ended up returning the Geil memory and put some Kingston HyperX PC3500 and it has been rock solid since. I have a 120 GB Barracuda SATA Drive as my primary system drive and have had no issues with it.

Bottom line, do your research and make sure you have parts that are gonna be friendly with this board and you won't be dissapointed.

On another note, does anyone else experience a 15-20 second period between POST Info and OS Splash screen? For some reason my rig has this issue, which annoyingly delays boot while it's just sitting there, black screen, no HD activity, nothing. Anyone else have this? Know what causes it? Know how to get rid of it?

Thanks,

-John

No beeps at all. The Ram LED comes on and the fans spin up, but the HD does not spin up, the monitor will not come out of sleep mode, and my POST card BIOS light never comes on. I'm trying to narrow it down between the CPU and the board (blown BIOS)? I replaced the CMOS battery also, no change.

Hey guys,

I was just wondering what the general concensus was in regard to the DPS2 module. Up until this week I have been using mine and haven't had a single issue. Then, out of curiosity, I removed it and my CPU temperatures went down approximately 3 C. At the same time, I haven't noticed any performance issues. I plan on leaving it out unless I start having problems...

Also, I am currently running 4 IDE hard drives, but I want to switch over to SATA to clean up the inside of my case. Since I don't think I will be able to sell my four IDE HDs, I figured I would just get four IDE to SATA converters. While looking at a few different adapters, I noticed that there is an extra power plug on the adapter itself. Is this necessary for the converter to work, or is it for something else?

Thanks a bunch.
