If I buy PC3500 Cas 2 do I have to buy one stick of something slower so I can get into the bios to set manual mode for the timings?

I believe the problem is only with Corsair 3200LL. I have this RAM and mb and when I tried to go into BIOS and change to manual, it would freeze before I could change it. Luckily, I still had my 512mb OCZ PC3500EL CAS2 at the time and I was able to get in and adjust things.

There is a modded F4 BIOS by bigtoe you can download here. It defaults the BIOS RAM settings to manual, CAS 2.5, etc., so you will have no problems getting in or booting up.

*Edit* Bigtoe just released a modded F5 BIOS.

I keep reading about bad things with this board(SIS 655) and the ATI 9700pro. Anybody have a difinitive statement about whether these work together?

Thanks

Yes they do work together fine, i've read of alot of people including myself that have no problems.

Check out my rig. I've got a 9700pro running on this board at 8x AGP with fastwrites on with no problems. The problem was with Granite Bay boards where the 9700pro was unstable at 8x and had to be run at 4x.

I have had zero compatability problems with this board.

No problems here... 🙂

Why are you using the Corsair if you have OCZ EL PC3500? I am pretty sure the OCZ is faster. At least my stick has no problem hitting DDR 440 2-6-3-3 at 2.60 vdimm.

I wanted to run in dual channel (2x256) and I wanted to give Corsair a shot. In the near future I'll probably get some OCZ PC3700 and see how good they are and keep the better pair.

For $200 (US) bucks, you can get 1 Gb of generic pc3500 that runs better on the SINXP then the OCZ El pc3500? Sounds like a no brainer to me? Anyway, if you use a slower memory in this mobo you'll be limited by it, in other words, if you use cas 2.5, that is what you'll be stuck at. Try this site for memory purchase...Hardcore cooling...

This is the system I'm putting together.....any glaring problems?
All "constructive" suggestions welcome.

Bailey...why not get the pc3500? It'll cost you $40 bucks more(4x$10=$40)? It seems your willing to invest in some expensive components as it is, $40 at this point won't break the bank will it? Also, go with as big a CRT as you can, there're pretty cheap at this point, you won't be sorry you did. Check some reviews on LCD's there are a couple of pretty decent ones out there at the moment. I went with the Mitsubishi 2070sb(22", 20" viewable), I got a good deal from Dell Home/Office...10% off and free shipping, not to mention they have pretty decent customer service. From your list of components you should be fine, just pay attention to the threads over at AsusBoards, there is alot of extremely valuable information to be gleaned there. Make sure to check out the BIOS update by Bigtoe and also the Memory Timings by Prometheus... Post #142, memory Timings that work on the SINXP...
It seems that the branded memory has tighter SPD timings...
Generic OCZ PC3500
You and I almost have the exact same setup, let me know how you make out. I'm still waiting for my modded 9700 and serial HD cables. You should be fine.

I was going to get these modules (256x2), can anyone else confirm this? It's a pity ram isn't as cheap as it is in the usa, I live in the uk and it's pretty expensive still.

neilm...
Try this site and see if they do business outside the US.
HardCoreCooling

I would think you could find some decent prices, but then maybe not? Maybe someone here might be willing to help you out, you can also try here...PcInnovations
Good luck bro, I'll see what I can find for you...
Also check out Bigtoes bios mod over at AsusBoards, it may help you with the memory boot problem...

I am using the Swiftech MCX4000 with no problems interfering with the DPS board.

Wondering how your are doing with install...

I am looking at my new Thermaltake V1000A Black case with Vantec 520 PS and SINXP1394...and alot of wires...Where do they all go?...Whew!

Need memory sticks...are there Dual DDR Kits for PC3700? Or go PC3500? etc.

Like to know where all the wires go...this will take time.

How are you doing with install?

Any hints for me?

Kinda fun, huh!

I know in Evan Leib's review of the SINXP1394 he was able to set the memory timings of the Corsair 3200 memory to 2-2-2-6. I have set the memory settings to Manual on the F5 bios with my two 512MB sticks of Corsair TWINX1024-3200LL DIMMs, and have set the timings to 2-2-2-6, and it will not POST. Am I missing something here? I can back off the top number to 2-2-2-7, but not six. I know the board is supposed to be able to do the 6, and the chip is capable of 5, so what is the deal? Can someone explain this to me, maybe I am just blind and don't understand.

I'm planning to build my new system with the 8SQ800 and a case that has 2 usb and 1 firewire port.I was wondering if it's possible to connect the front firewire port to this motherboard. It's not a big deal , since I can just install the 3 firewire port card it came with. But since I'm building it now anyways, if it's possible I'd like to connect it now. Just wondering if it's possible.
TIA

I understand how to set the memory timings such as 2-2-2-6 or 2.5-3-3-7, but I have seen that some people will add either a 1T or 2T to the end of that. How do I set that extra setting in the BIOS for these boards, and what is it?

Thanks!

I just got all my parts together and now I can't get ANY picture. I have a Radeon 9500 and the gigabyte Sinxp1394 board. I unplugged all the drives and just had the monitor connection but nothing. The monitor just says no signal.

Any help would be great thanks!

That's the bootup problem where the SPD settings of the memory is too fast for the mb's memory controller. You have to get into the BIOS and change the setting from SPD to manual and relax the mem timings. You can 1) try 1 stick of mem or 2) if you have an older stick of DDR RAM use it to get into the BIOS. If these don't work then you can download and install bigtoe's modded F4 or F5 BIOS. It relaxes the mem timings at boot by default. You can get it in the BIOS section of the forum located here.

Thanks again!
