Official G35/G37 Thread

Had an '05 G35 Sedan Sport 6MT. I loved it. I have an '09 BMW 335i now in 6MT. The BMW drives noticeably better but the G35 is still my favorite. I didn't have too many issues. The car is equipped nicely unlike the BMW where you have to buy everything extra and can't even get a spare tire.

BMW has run flat tires, so you can drive 50 miles after the puncture to a safe service station. 🙂 Also better fuel economy because less weight.

07 G35 coupe here, my lease is up monday, no other car ive driven makes me as happy, and i cant seem to find a good deal on a new g 🙁 im pretty sad about it im going to try to extend my lease.

Decently quick, very classy exterior and interior (by classy I mean, classy enough that an older individual would like it, but sporty enough that a younger individual would like it too 🙂 ), pretty affordable, good reliability.

The only con really is the gas milage isnt the best. I wish the older coupes had AWD, but at least they brought it for the 2009 version. If I had my choice on a new (09/10) car right now, it would be ridiculously close between the 09 G37X coupe and the 09 CTS. A few others are decent, but man those can catch the eye like crazy.

2005 G35 Coupe 6MT here. Black ext with Black int, sport package, stock tires atm, my blizzaks are going on in probably a month (yay chicago).

As for everybody else, we don't really need a thread to reaffirm our love for our cars.

Kinda like Macs getting highest customers satisfaction rating; seriously, if you bought a Mac are you going to tell the world that you don't like it even though you don't have a clue on how to use the damn thing or navigate it? Of course you're gonna love it right? *wink wink* Is there a medical term for what's wrong with those people?

Edit: sorry for the thread crap, for the record, I don't have, never had and never will have anything Nissan. The only things I'd EVER consider to own one of these days that's from Nissan are the R32's and R33 GTR's. Maybe R34's too...

Yes, but I don't want to pay 2x more for worse performing and uncomfortable tires. There aren't many RFT choices for snow tires so I went with non-RFTs. Even if they don't provide a spare, I wished BMW at least put some kind of space in the trunk to put a spare.

Oh, and I've already bubbled two tires within 2 months of owning the BMW. I never popped a tire before in the 3 yrs I had the G.

I don't have one, but am very seriously considering them. Either an 05 6mt as cheap as possible or an 08 G37.

Anyone know if it's best to wait a year to 'work out the kinks' on the G37 or are most problems worked out?

Anything new on the oil consumption issues with the rev-up motors?

The car has very few problems. Yeah, there are a couple of bad experiences reported but that is expected as is with any car. Check myg37.com or g37driver.com.
I absolutely love my 08 coupe. It's so much better than other cars that I've driven previously and feels pretty well made. Dunno about any oil consumption issues though.

I'm absolutely fiending for a g37 coupe.

Edit: Although I've heard you can't put an aftermarket head unit in them? 🙁

Not sure but I think you can't. The current sound system is not bad however and is much better than the average car.

The Oil consumption issue with the Rev-up motors are a hit and a miss not all of them have the issue. If it does have the issue they do an OC test and replace the whole engine. Just make sure any car your going to buy has some warranty left so if it does have an OC problem you can get it fixed.

A hell of a lot of new cars are like this, all of this mega concentrated center stack stuff really crowds out your aftermarket audio options.

Not sure about the G37, but for the G35 coupe you can purchase a double-din kit that would allow you to put in your own head unit. Runs $300+ for the JDM one.. considerably less for the knockoff Metra kit.

I'd bet you anything that it's related to breaking in the motor 'softly'. This is a very well known problem in the motorcycling community - some bikes are FAR worse than others. I had a Triumph 675 and broke it in properly (first few hundred miles below 7-8k but always going through gears and changing speeds) which really helps the rings seat properly.

Wonder if anyone has done a UOA on one of these problematic motors..

Does Nissan know what causes it? If not, what keeps the new motor from doing the same thing?

uh there was a thread on g35driver which talked about this and what causes the problem, but I never really looked into it since I dont have a rev-up 😱.

^ Something to do with the piston rings, and some type of defect in materials. The new motors they are putting in are JDM motors, they have different internals.

I thought I should post this, a guy over at my350z compiled this chart. This is a personalized chart for the VQ motor. So you will get similar results in your VQ.
