Official Fury X specs

This is about AMD not offering something that hundreds of thousands of people need from any next-gen card they choose to purchase, and something that comes standard on all Nvidia cards from the lowly 960 on up.

Heheh I know, me too. It doesn't work that way unfortunately. But I do believe this will be a big enough issue that AMD will fix this awful mistake with the dual-GPU Fury X for fall.

I would be shocked to see them deploy that $1500+ card without HDMI 2.0, especially now that AMDMatt is likely informing them about the massive public backlash today on Reddit and a dozen different forums.

I don't give a shit about watching 4k Blu-ray Discs, a year from now, on any Ati or Nvidia card.

This is about the thousands of us that have 2015 4k televisions that CAN do 4:4:4 @ 60Hz at 4k....via a nice perfect little HDMI 2.0 port, and game at that rez, today.

It has nothing, at all, to do with HDCP 2.2.

The Fury X doesn't support any 4k television currently on the market at a Hz level above 30Hz. And that is a massive massive failure.

Stop justifying, stop rationalizing, stop fanboying. This is a fuck up. Period.

And this is coming from multiple people in this thread who were EXCITED to buy this card, myself included. It's a colossal error, a bitter disappointment, and there is no excuse. I would personally FIRE the group of individuals that made that decision if I were Su.

That being said, the 980 Ti is a great card that when overclocked delivers all of the performance of the Fury X, if not more. It just blows that the AIO version of the card is $100 higher. Which sucks for us, the consumers.

Myself, and several others now, have tried to explain this to you. You simply don't understand the tech, as you don't own a 2015 4k display that's capable of 4:4:4 @ 60Hz.

The Fury X is only capable of running at 30Hz on 90-95% of the 4k televisions on the market, due to said televisions not offering a display port. Not now, and not in the future.

They only way to get a 2160p image at 60Hz with 4:4:4 sub chroma is to drive it through HDMI 2.0, for those specific televisions (again, 90-95%).

AMD missing this fact or whatever the reasons were that drove the decision, has fallen into a major error, one that precludes those of us who are in the market for a next-gen card or two from every buying the Fury X. It also affects the "living room" Nano, as it apparently also does not support HDMI 2.0.

I can't make it any more simple that that, I hope you understand now why so many in the thread are upset.

You can see the first 2 slides says "Fiji" and even the Fiji die with HBM is in the second slide, so Nano is powered by Fiji. and No, the dual-GPU card will not have HDMI 2.0 because the GPU simply does not support it. Support has to be built into the GPU itself, hence Kepler/Maxwell GM10x does not support HDMI 2.0 but Maxwell GM20x does.

Again, AMD doesn't say anything about HDMI 2.0 on their reviewer's guide, product page on website etc and hasn't stated otherwise when asked about HDMI 2.0 support. AMD only has themselves to blame for not stating clearly from day 1 whether they have HDMI 2.0 support, which from the looks of things no.

It's insane, I never would have guessed this in a thousand years. I would have bet my house that no one could be foolish enough to just let Nvidia have this entire market segment.

Nvgpu. You have indicated several times that output propriety tech is embedded in the gpu silicon in the fab stage. Can you support these claims? Is HMDI simply not a independent output processor located on board?

None of those adapters will work, it's an extremely complicated engineering issue as people far smarter than I am on the subject have already said. There is no fix for this.

But I think it's important to state that the Fury X is absolutely the best value on the market for any monitor with a display port. We haven't seen benchmarks yet but at $649 for the water version even if it just winds up matching the 980 Ti it will still be the best option out there.

That's why I think so many of us in the "4k television as pc display" crowd are upset...this card is the real deal and we won't be able to partake in it, and are forced to now give more money to Nvidia to solve the problem. Frustrating.

If it's accurate it's unfortunate for people using 4K TVs to game and I get using a 4K HDTV to game as that is the only real good use of them right now. Native 1080p movie content looks a lot better on a high quality 1080p plasma than it does upscaled onto a 4K LCD. But I think 4K HDTVs do serve a use for a couch gamer wanting that resolution.

I wonder if that's possible. Not that it would matter as AMD has already said none of their partners will be allowed to offer a hybrid water AIO out of the box (which is all I'm interested in), but it's still an interesting question whether or not some sharp third party vendor can fix the issue and scoop up all those easy sales for the air version of the card.

What? What would make you say such things? It's just a signal and adapters have been made for every different interface in the past.

They are available on ebay now, and coming to the US in Q3 (as per Accell's rep).

If you don't want to use an adapter, then go with NV, nothing stops you doing that.

So essentially that's a no go, permanently, especially if a competitor already has a product that fills the need. And it's months away, and it may not work properly with the extremely bandwidth intensive 4:4:4 @ 60H, and and and and. Many reasons.

90% of 4k televisions currently on the market do not offer DP, and that number is rising year over year. I'm not sure why, though it likely has to do with cost. The TV mfgs try to cut costs everywhere, the margin is so thin that they have to choose the most common connection usually. And none of the 4k televisions that DO offer a display port right now can do true 4:4:4 @ 60Hz @ 4k as the brand new 2015 Samsung 4k line can...and that's the point.

What I'd like, and assumed I'd be buying after the good news on Fury X the past few days, are 2x of them in Crossfire, for $1300, with AIO hybrid cooling. For use on a Samsung 48JU7500 4k "television" that is on my desk and is my primary display.

Instead, if the Fury X does not have HDMI 2.0 support, then as you said it's GM200-only of cource, but to do that will cost $1500 instead of $1300, because the 980 Ti with AIO cooling goes for $749 each.

It was just a nice chance to flip to team red for a change, at a great price, for a great product. But due to a small error, something everyone at AMD clearly missed, it's not possible.

But yes, holding out hope that AMDMatt is an asshat who spoke without knowing what he was talking about, and the Fury X does have HDMI 2.0 after all. Hopefully we'll hear something in the next 24 hours.

Saving $200 may seem trivial, but you should know better than anyone after throwing away $2k on those Titan X SLI cards instead of waiting for the 980 Ti/Fury X just how nice it is to save money when you can. You could have put it towards a better display than that 2715 you're using...I'd need binoculars to game on that after using the sweet sweet 48" Samsung at 4k...

You were shown that you were wrong and there are adapters now and more coming, so now it actually does work and you've just changed your mind - but - it introduces 'lag' ? And an electrical engineer posted here and showed how it produces lag ? I missed that post, where is the post explaining how and why it will produce lag ? Now that we've moved past 'There is no fix for this.'

Well I agree with some of that. For myself if Fury X is a faster card than the 980ti with overclocking then it is clearly the superior card for my uses. I water cool everything myself so I'd just be ripping the coolers off anyways.

Still why be so angry and continue to post that you're upset about HDMI 2.0 again and again ? Yes you'll lose out on having a Fury and yes the EVGA hybrid cooler will not be all that quiet because it still has a blower fan on the card, but - you can get something now. If you wait until next week and find out it doesn't have HDMI 2.0 you'll be in the same boat you are now but still waiting and probably having missed out on that card you are considering being in stock.

Seems like you are just wasting a lot of energy on this. Fury X, if faster, won't be that much faster and the real loss you'll get from not getting one would be noise from using a hybrid that still has a blower on the card. Not -that- big a deal.

Ah, well that I get. If you're budget constrained and can't manage the additional $200 then you probably should wait to hear if there is HDMI 2.0 or support or not.

If it turns out not I'd recommend getting something other than the evga blower card you mentioned and maybe a more custom card like the gigabyte g1 to get a better overclock and make up some of the performance you lose from not being able to get two of the nvidia cards. Those hybrid cards are going to be as loud or louder than an open air card because that blower on the card makes a lot of noise as it's a tiny fan unlike a 120mm fan on a radiator.

Because supposedly the person who started the entire shitstorm, AMDMatt, is "checking" to see whether he was right or wrong when he told the world yesterday that the Fury X "does not" have HDMI 2.0.

We're hoping he's wrong basically.
