There's a big difference between saying that you aren't going to pay $60 and own a game with an 8.5 rating and saying you will never play it at all because of the rating. I know plenty of people who rent most of the games they play or buy used, and only own the few really great ones that they know they'll want to play multiple times. I know Fable III certainly hasn't seemed like a must buy to me.

You pretty much nailed my thoughts Josh.
the review as a whole to me seemed kinda luke warm and seems like more of a departure from Fable II than their should have been.

I'm fairly impressed by the packaging for the Collector's Edition... it's this sort of (p)leather-bound book with a hidden compartment that has the card and coins in it. I was fairly impressed with the Alan Wake LCE for its book-like box, but this one blows it away.

Now, let's hope the game is good 😛.

I preordered from Amazon. Got it this morning and was looking forward to playing it all day. I just popped it in and it says disc unrecognizable. Anyone else having disc problems? I put Fable II in and it loaded up fine, my console is less than a year old so I don't think it's the drive.

For those of you who bought it, tell me if its like Fable I or II. I liked Fable I, but HATED Fable II.

Are the moral choices more engaging, as in Fable I? Are the characters more endearing, like in Fable I?

I ended up only playing New Vegas yesterday (and some Minecraft). I look forward to putting the time into Fable 3, but nothing is making me want to play it right now. The game feels more like Fable 2 than 2, though, but it has enough differences to be its own game.

I can't comment on the moral choices because I haven't made any really. As for characters, I do like the player characters brother and your butler. If I were a reviewer of any kind, and I based my reviews off of 2 hours of gameplay 😛, I would give it a 75ish.

I got fable on the 26th and the over all feel of the game seems similar to the other 2, the characters in the game aren't as in depth as I would like them to be and your relationships with them are barely even touched.

The action in this game is a vastly great improvement from the other 2.(its way more fun to hack and slash while you have a blizzard storm over the top of you and the 10 enemies around you.)

As for the multiplayer, its a great idea and me and my buddy even had fun going through some quests together and starting a business partnership together and investing in some real estate for some constant cash flow. As for the storyline and quests in the multiplayer it was basically who ever joined the other persons game did not complete anything in their own game.(basically the joinee just was there to horse around while the player that hosted the game got all of his shit done.) I think this is how it works, keep in mind i have had only 1 night of playing the game.

As for the storey, I am impressed with it so far and I believe this will surpass the other 2 games when it comes to the quality of the story line.

I don't know about you guys but I had fairly low expectations for Fable 3. I loved the original Fable and was, overall, disappointed with Fable 2. Naturally I figured Fable 3 would be more of the same. Thankfully--I'm wrong. After spending a few hours with it I'm surprisingly impressed with a lot of the game.

Some reviewers complained about the graphics but I think they’re much improved. Textures appear crisper, the frame rate is more solid and the lighting is at times amazing. I've already come across several vista that stopped me in my tracks. Clearly it blows away anything I saw in Fable 2. Plus I didn’t expect the aesthetics to change as much as it has. Fable 3 just feels a little more grown-up. I know that sounds odd, but to put it to an analogy, it’s kind of like going from Ocarina of Time to Twilight Princess.

There was a patch released yesterday and I think it might have addressed some technical issues because I've not had a single issue yet (crosses fingers).

The combat appears to be about the same as Fable 2 unfortunately, but at least you can infuse bullets with lightening and stuff like that.

I like the idea of ditching the traditional XP system for something like Twitter, er, followers.

The Sanctuary is the most surprising of it all. I enjoy the virtual interpolation of the achievements, menus and treasure. I thought it would be annoying, but it's both interesting and fun (thanks to Jeeves)! I didn’t expect it to be so responsive too. It’s just nice to have something different in terms of how these things are represented.

What I am annoyed with is the mapping system. I can appreciate how it’s represented in the Sanctuary, but this game is in dire need of a mini-map. They’re popular in these types of games (Peter!) for a very good reason.
It took me a bit to figure out how to manage quests too. I checked the manual, looked around the (virtual) menus and just couldn’t figure it out. It was frustrating. I eventually fumbled upon the system the map in the sanctuary. What you need to do is highlight a quest marker with the magnifying glass, select it, and then acknowledge that it’s the quest you would like to make current. Ok fine. It’s not that big of a deal now that I’ve got the hang of it, but I do think a quest log should be accessible via a button (like the back button, which does nothing!)

Overall, the gameplay, look and feel of the game is great. Looking forward to seeing where this thing goes…

I really liked Fable 1 and 2. In the first 10 minutes of playing Fable 3, someone tries to get you to sign a petition. My political views wouldn't allow me to sign the petition in real life, but not signing the petition in the game gives you evil points.

I don't like having a video game call me evil.

I enjoyed the first two Fables, but I will be waiting until a price drop to pick it up. With money being tight and knowing that I will put a ton of hours into Black Ops, plus still having plenty to do on Reach, I can wait for a while to play it.

I'm a few hours into it and enjoying it.

my only complaints are minor ones... I wish the butler wouldn't spam me to go buy stuff in the XBL store every time I enter the sanctuary (yes, I know there's a DLC available and no, I don't want to buy costumes for my dog with RL cash) and the leveling road thing seems a bit jarring -- like, it pops up mid-dialogue while finishing a story event.

and maps... god it's annoying to have no idea where I'm going unless I have a breadcrumb trail to follow.

So far I've only played like 1 hour maybe. I'm at the point where I just got out of the castle and through the underground sewers. I'm pretty much right at the first town.

I dunno what the dealio is, but the game seems very unpolished compared to Fable 2.

I'm hoping it's just that I'm in the very early parts of the game, but the graphics don't look that great. Lack of detail, jaggies, and there's like no HUD right now. Just feels like a beta test right now. I honestly don't remember Fable 2 graphics looking as bad as Fable 3 graphics.

Again, I'm really hoping that once I get through the beginning parts, things will pick up.

I really like this game because it feels like a mash-up of all the good things from Fable 1 & 2. It's just fun. And whimsical. Can't forget that.

So I played some more and learned a few things. This game isnt very good at letting you know how it works, so I figure we can share some of the things we've discovered so far.

- When accessing the map, you can bring up the compelte quest log by hitting the "Y" button.

- I love the Sanctuary. No seriously I love it! Did you know that as soon as you enter the sanctuary you can hit up, down, left or right on the D-pad to immediately teleport to the other rooms? It's fast!

- I'm finding money is in the property, but there is upkeep so pay attention to the repairs.

- You might be tempted to quick travel to your locations, but the areas to explore outside the towns are fulfilling. Sit back, relax and explore. Fable 3 has been rewarding and fun in this regard.

- I bumped into a friend last night who is playing the game and he didnt realize there were gifts sitting in the Sanctuary just waiting for him to open (next to the dog!) Open them up if you already havent--they're awesome gifts from Lionhead Studios.

- In coop, you and your buddy are tethered to one another at all times so when you go to the sanctuary you will pull your buddy with you. Can be frustrating, but also I think this is done for technical reasons.

Yes your are correct warcrow, the game is not good at telling you how to do certain things that definally are self explanitory in other games...

One thing I noticed is upgrading the look of your weapong does not come with constant use of it(that I have noticed). It comes from upgrading your melee skill/ranged skill from the road of skills... And you can go to the armory, look at your weapon and select info - this will show you the things you can do to upgrade your weapon even further(15pts of dmg/earn more guild seals in combat... ect) Although the way to complete these upgrades are not what you would think. It wanted me to make 5 people fall in love with me to complete one of these upgrades (this made my weapon have a red lining throughout the grooves on it.)

Another thing I noticed is your canine companion, this pup does absolutly nothing except get annoying when it finds something to dig up ever 3 minutes... I have trained the dog with a few books(charisma and fighting) and now all he does is SOMETIMES attack an enemy when I knock them down... otherwise he runs and watchs me get kill shit.
The charisma was supposed to give him personality and help me make friends/make people like me more, but all I have seen is someone kick him and say "you stupid mutt, I hate that dog", so... not really sure how to progress this pup further so he is actually usefull... If anyone has any tips I would be greatful.

When it comes to the CO-OP I am confused as to why I cannot play through the story at the same time my friend does and both get credit for doing the quests... When I leave my friends game and the progress we achieved together was not saved on my own game after I was solo again, But the game was saved on his and he reaped the benefits. That is stupid IMO.
We can share money/property, and get married/have kids and even fuck and that is awesome but when only 1 person gets credit it doesn't make you ever want to join someone elses game...

Also, I am confused about the fast travel/skills road quick jump (pushing the up arrow). Sometimes it shows up and sometimes it doesn't, and I also would like to bind certain things to the arrow keys like you could in the old fable, because these keys are used for nothing... But I can't figure it out, if you can even do it.

Has anyone found their custom villager in the game yet? I've made it all the way to bowerstone industrial and I haven't seen her yet. I wasn't ever prompted to download anything onto my xbox either.

Your villager is at the Bowerstone Village near the bridge usually in between the blacksmith and the hair stylist. He/she stands in front of their house across the street from the stylist.

what is carried over if you have a fable 2 save?

will your money carry over, homes, the evil you unleashed onto your world, etc

all I've noticed is the gender, but I don't remember a whole lot from fable 2.

on a side note...

anyone have any recommendations for making money for the treasury once you're king while still being good?

Yeah my friend said that makes the game hard as hell.... lol I am right before that part, If I notice anything tonight/ next few days I will let you know.

Why do people use spoiler tags without giving context? Is that spoiler about the ending? Plot point in the middle? A weapon?

So, I broke down and bought this game last night.

It took me about an hour to figure out how to save a game 🙂. The user manual has no information on what I assume is important information.

This game is an OCD nightmare. I did all the friend quests in the first two towns and then when you complete the 3 objectives for the mountain town, out of no where like 8 new residents show up. Dammit!

solved my money crisis... I made some starting gold doing quests, selling stuff, and winning a lucky bet on the Colonel in the chicken races (20K gold). bought some houses, left my game on while I watched tv, came back, bought some businesses, left my game on overnight, woke up to 800k gold, bought nearly ever business that I could (and sold most of my houses), and now I'm leaving my game running while I clean. lol.

That sounds a bit too easy...save game prior to bet...bet big...lose...reload... bet again...win...48hrs later I'm rich. Wonder if they'll patch it
