And it's pissing me off already. The EAX implementation is still the same glitchy OMGWTFCRACKLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEe implementation used in 1998 that is utterly incompatible with any sound chip without "CREATIVE LABS" stamped on it. EXCEPT THIS TIME YOU CAN'T TURN EAX OFF!

The voice track is too low. AND YOU CAN'T TURN IT UP.

I havn't even gotten a gun yet and I've almost given up hope on the game.

5/10 MAXIMUM rating for this game now, due to piss-poor audio performance. Sure, it's pretty. Sure it's running pretty damn slick at 1152xwhatever with full details - but video means NOTHING compared to audio in terms of an immersive experience.

I can't believe I installed Steam for THIS.

No sir, VALVE sucks. EAX is right up there with copy protection schemes in terms of the annoying bugginess factor. Would you like me to do a capture on the crap that this game spits out and I'm supposed to interpret? It's completely indecipherable.

If it has anything to do with drivers, I blame Asus - the bone-stock nForce2 audio drivers won't install (because they didn't use bone stock, they had to tweak it like fvcktards).

But considering it also happens on my OTHER nForce2 boards, which DO use stock sound drivers, I doubt Asus has anything to do with it.
 
I played through the whole game with onboard audio and didn't find that it detracted from the experience at all. Then again, it probably sounds muffled with your rectum around your ears.
