One of the worst Obama speeches I have heard. I was expecting one of the greatest speeches ever. Instead we get boring personal story crap.

You can leave and never hear him again. Please do. Thank you

So much for spreading the word about uniting us.

You mean the same exact words Clinton has given twice, and Bush has given twice.

"The challenges we face, they're not Democratic or Republican challenges. They're American challenges. What we know from the budget battles of the last two years and from the remarkable success of the last few weeks of this Congress is the lesson we have learned for the last 220 years -- what we have achieved as Americans of lasting good, we have achieved by working together. So let me say to the leaders of my Democratic Party and the leaders of the Republican Party, it is time to put country ahead of party."

"I know America wants reconciliation and unity. I know Americans want progress. And we must seize this moment and deliver. Together, guided by a spirit of common sense, common courtesy and common goals, we can unite and inspire the American citizens."

"I was not elected to serve one party, but to serve one nation. The president of the United States is the president of every single American, of every race and every background. Whether you voted for me or not, I will do my best to serve your interests, and I will work to earn your respect."

"Reaching these goals will require the broad support of Americans. So today I want to speak to every person who voted for my opponent. To make this nation stronger and better, I will need your support and I will work to earn it. I will do all I can do to deserve your trust. A new term is a new opportunity to reach out to the whole nation. We have one country, one constitution, and one future that binds us. And when we come together and work together, there is no limit to the greatness of America."

Congrats to Barack Obama. May God help the United States through these 4 years.

Too bad It wasn't there for the last 8.

IN called for Obama.

First time in a long time it has gone Dem.

Bush won it in 2004 by 20 points.

John Sidney McSame got his wrinkled ass handed to him.

I cannot believe that he is still allowed to troll around like he did in this thread tonight.

I-1000 is looking to pass in WA state. He can go there for it because we don't want him here in Oregon 😛

His grandma just died.
Was thinking that just after I posted. Combo of all that I would think.

Hopefully it's partially because he realizes how big of a job he has in front of him. It's true he's set expectations high. He knows he has to produce.

McCain's speech was great. Only the most rabid left-wing partisan can't admit it.

And is it just me but did the Chicago crowd cheer McCain but of course the Phoenix crowd booed Obama.

Putting the politics of the two candidates aside, this is a great moment for our country. It seems nearly 200,000 people turned out in Chicago to see a black man give his victory speech for President of the United States, a victory that was not slim but decisive--more decisive than Kennedy in 1960 when blacks were forced to sit in the back of buses and drink from different water fountains and attend separate schools. Even if you believe Obama is weak on national security, is a socialist, is inexperienced, I think we can all savor this bit of success in our history.

So, are you saying there's hope for the neanderthals?

It is amazing. It's a good step but I think it'll take a few more generations for the hardcore bigots to die off. I think obama got it because he is really just opposite of the "empty suit" some spout. I think there's something there that we should be very glad that he is willing to share. I hope the race thing fades soon and we just talk about the man.

I was at Grant Park, most of the people definitely respected McCain during his speech. I did, I thought he gave an excellent speech (probably the best of his campaign haha) and was very honorable and respectful. His crowd didn't seem so appreciative though. Of course, we did boo him many times and other people said some shit. It was a great night, a great feeling and a lot of emotion in the air. It will be something I remember for the rest of my life. My first time voting and it was very special.

Franken is holding onto the smallest of leads in MN with 99% in.

Merkley is down by a few thousand votes with 70% reporting in OR; a few strongholds have yet to complete their tallies.

While I think Obama lacked experience going in and his victory was partly race-driven, I am 100% behind him now that he's in. This is good for our relations with the rest of the world and sends a strong message people of all races.

This is both a civil rights victory and a kick in the ass to both ignorant whites and blacks. Ignorant whites, get over it. If you want an all-white world move to your own island. Ignorant blacks, "the man" "can't get ahead" and those excuses ended last night at 11:00 EST. Let's move on from all that nonsense.

Obama does not have an easy job ahead of him but I have confidence he can pull it off. Congrats and please bring our servicemen home ASAP.

I know it's terribly idealistic and naive, but a new day is coming to American politics. 🙂

gay rights rejected across the board, a new day indeed

Exit polls show Prop 8 failing in CA.

Stevens won in Alaska?...What the hell?

I guess at the end of the day Stevens' seniority and power won out over the fact that he's a convicted felon. He certainly brings a lot of pork money to AK, and if he has to resign, Palin gets to pick his successor, so it's a win-win for the Republicans who control that state. Remember when John Ashcroft lost his Senate race in 2000 to a dead man? It's kinda like that.

I voted against it, but it was poorly worded. Careful reading required! The pro-traditional marriage people snuck that one past a lot of people, IMHO.

Looks like I have a huge thread to go through since I didn't get to participate with P&N today. Oh well.

Congratulations Senator/Soon to be President Obama

You didn't miss much only members saying they want to put a bullet through my skull.

I certainly condemn that post - it was despicable - but you have been trolling for this entire election season, and insisted Obama couldn't win as recently as a few weeks ago. It's been nice to see you proven wrong yet again.

"Congratulations to GOP Victors Nationwide"
Who the F are they talking about ?

It's not a Rubber Stamp congress like Bush had from 2001 to 2006.

So when the news media and Republicans in here say Democrats control both House and Senate like they are this morning is misleading, deceptive and false.

Yes, Democrats have a better majority but they do not have 100% filibuster proof rule.
