"But what's even more interesting and juicy in this interview was their hinted "big announcement" pertaining to FFVII in the coming weeks. This is in response to a query on updates regarding Tetsuya Nomura's adding of new scenes to the FFVII: Advent Children Complete Blu-ray release.

You can look forward to the upcoming invite-only fan event DKS3713 [taking place in Tokyo on August 2 and 3], where we'll have a major announcement that will shock the fans in attendance."

Let the rumours begin. Starting with the FFVII remake, of course..
Dirge of Cerberus 2, obviously!

It'll be a FF VII remake...

... for the Nintendo DS

I think I agree with this Ubisoft guy

"For E3, it's very important to be there, and to present the games, because even though it's much, much smaller than it used to be, still the American media are here, all our competitors, so you need be there, to be ready and to share product.

"It's one milestone in the communication of your products throughout the year, and it's important because it's the ramp-up for Christmas," he said. "[But] E3 here, mid-July, in the Convention Center in downtown LA - it's not appropriate I would say."

He went on to explain that the downsized event came too late in the year for new product announcements, meaning that the buzz around the event suffers and fewer media outlets consider it crucial to their publishing plans.

"There are no retailers at all, from anywhere on the planet - not even the US retailers are there, and there are very few media outlets from outside of the US," he said. "Even the mainstream media from the US aren't there."

Additionally Corre feels that while there should be limits placed on proceedings in order to prevent it from becoming the "funfair" experience of 2006, the event does need to be bigger - and that the company is discussing the options already.

"What we would like, and we're discussing that, is to have an E3 back in May with a bigger size," he explained. "It shouldn't be at the same level [as 2006] because it was getting too big, it was a funfair, and the cost was too heavy for everybody.

"It has to be a reasonable size with some reasonable limits as to noise, attendees or whatever, but with a bigger ambition than the one we have this year."

Part of the downer on this E3 is because we already know about most of the games coming out because they were announced months ago. Having it back in May or sooner would allow more new games for the end of the year to be announced. I mean honestly, GDC was more interesting IMHO.

MS cut their conference down from 2 and a half hours to 1 and a half hours?

Turns out that Bungie's latest Halo project was originally part of the program for Microsoft's press conference on Monday, but it was taken out of the lineup at the last minute. Don Mattrick, senior vice president of Microsoft's Xbox games business, said the company decided to pull Halo ...

... to help trim its E3 presentation to under 90 minutes, from 2 1/2 hours, to accommodate attention-challenged reporters. "We had an embarrassment of riches," Mattrick said. "We felt we could do this game more justice with a more dedicated event."

Bungie, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2000, split from the software giant last year but agreed to give Microsoft first dibs on publishing its games.

For Microsoft, the decision was a blow but not a critical hit. Although the Halo games have contributed over a billion dollars in sales for the Redmond, Wash., giant, the company is less reliant on the franchise than it once was. The first Halo game cemented Xbox as the console of choice for many serious gamers at a time when Microsoft was just entering the market and struggling to earn respect. Halo 3, released in September, singlehandedly pulled Microsoft's console division into the black for the fiscal year ending in June, giving the division its first profit since entering the market in 2001.

So Microsoft's decision to pull Halo from its presentation led to quite a bit of head scratching.

Mattrick put a positive spin on the development, saying that Microsoft had managed to build such a solid foundation that it no longer needed to depend on one or two games to succeed. He noted that the company also left out Grand Theft Auto IV. Microsoft snagged exclusive content for the game that will be made available to its Xbox 360 players this fall.

"Two big kahunas were left out of the show, and we were still able to deliver a strong performance," Mattrick said.

So I guess the next Halo game and the GTA IV DLC will be announced in one of the upcoming conferences? I can't find anything on an 'X' event for this year.

E for All maybe? Or PAX is coming up too.

Miyamoto also mentioned that Pikmin is in development. Which is kind of cool. link
I wish that Nintendo had decided to have a slightly less pathetic conference.

Yeah, we've got E4All, PAX, Leipzig, and Tokyo Game Show (not likely there though) still to come. There is also Comic-Con next week which MS is apparently going to attend.

My money is on PAX, although Leipzig is a good contender. Comic-Con is too close, and E4All is less game-oriented.

That EndWar RTS looks interesting, particularly the everlasting mode. Would like to see that come to PC.

Killzone multiplayer gameplay

o_0 ...wow..

Gameplay starts around 4:45 minute mark

You can mix 2 classes together. Such as Medic and Scout to gain abilties of both classes

64 player clan support

Possible vehicle support.

Flying Sentries

To recap the features of multiplayer

Killzone 2 is 32 players online, and has a class system where you can be either on these classes or a hybrid using a primary or secondary badge.

"Online play will allow players to customize their own characters by applying various traits, or "badges," from different multiplayer classes. There will be a primary and secondary badge available from each class to choose from. Also, although the Helghast and ISA look very different from each other, the effects of these badges are the same, regardless of which side you're playing on.

Rifleman:

The default multiplayer character is assigned when no primary badge is selected. A secondary badge may still be added. Riflemen can start with most weapons, except for the specialized ones.

Engineer:

Primary badge ability: Sets up an automated turret which targets the enemy.

Secondary badge ability: Repairs ammunition dispensers, mounted guns, and automated turrets.

Medic:

Primary badge ability: Revives downed team mates.

Secondary badge ability: Throws a health pack, which can be picked up by other players.

Scout:

Primary badge ability: Uses a cloaking suit to become near-invisible.

Secondary badge ability: Tags all on-screen enemy players with a hidden marker, which broadcasts their coordinates to team mates.

Assault:

Primary badge ability: Dons heavy armour twice as strong as normal.

Secondary badge ability: Temporarily boosts running speed.

Tactician:

Primary badge ability: Throws a coloured smoke grenade, which serves as a spawn point.

Secondary badge ability: Requests air support from a sentry bot which targets the enemy.

Saboteur:

Primary badge ability: Assumes the disguise of a randomly selected enemy player.

Secondary badge ability: Throws a sticky, proximity-activated C-4 charge.

The mini-game thing looks stupid... they grapple a tiny bit, then let go and it goes into the mini-game. You'd think that maybe, some real move would kick that off instead of a grapple and release. Also, the falling combat is retarded... if you noticed during that gameplay, you basically fall for a long time, and end up back on the same plane you were just fighting on... and can do it again.

They talk about motion sickness, I felt weird just watching that little demo. They also talk about no super human abilities but then Faith is able to run on a wall with several steps. I guess ninjas can do that ;)The game is clearly nice looking, but I dont know how much first person platforming I can take out of one game.

Gamespot coverage of the new Xbox interface - Click through for the whole but this is what caught my eye:

One of the not-so-cosmetic changes in the fall update will be the ability to let you play your games directly from the hard disk. The new feature will let users install all of the game content directly onto the hard drive to improve game load times. Microsoft reports that it has seen a 30 percent improvement in load times in internal testing. As an interesting data point, Microsoft went out of its way to tell a group of reporters that the full Devil May Cry 4 hard disk installation took roughly 10 minutes on the Xbox 360. The installation took twice as long when we conducted our own installation tests on the PlayStation 3. Another side benefit of having games installed on the hard disk is reduced noise, since the optical disc no longer needs to spin up. However, you will still need to have the game disc in your optical drive while you're playing it, presumably as a piracy check.

Trophies will be mandated for all PS3 titles in 2009 and beyond?

While not every game may include Trophies for now, at least one major developer tells Joystiq that Sony's answer to Achievements will be "mandated" by Sony for every new PS3 release in 2009.

This isn't entirely unexpected given recently-revised comments by PSN director of operations, Eric Lampel. What's more interesting, however, is that the developer, which is currently working on an early 2009 release, is also hearing that Sony may be enforcing some measure of uniqueness between spoils earned on its console versus the Xbox 360. Commented to developer, "We've heard some things that make it sound like we will have to do some unique to PS3 Trophies...this is all very new to us." While unconfirmed, we can't wait to see to what extent Sony will try to separate its virtual accolades from those on the Xbox 360, or if the idea will simply be enough to make completionists' heads implode.

Now we're going to have Achievement/Trophy one upping between the 360 and PS3? I wonder how this will work with cross-platform titles.

wow i had some kind of hopes for this game, but after watching that video, i really don't have any hopes for it at all anymore. it looks pretty lame and clunky, and the attacks and hits just seem so damn weak. i agree with the stupid ass mini-games and falling as well.

EA wants the old E3 back

Mike Gallagher, president of the Entertainment Software Association, has told the San Francisco Chronicle that the body will continue to tweak the format of the E3 Media and Business Summit after a number of its members poured scorn on this year?s event.

"I hate E3 like this," said EA CEO John Riccitiello. ?Either we need to go back to the old E3, or we'll have to have our own private events."

Laurent Detoc, president of Ubisoft North America, was equally critical. "E3 this year is terrible. The world used to come to E3. Now it's like a pipe-fitters show in the basement."

Around 5,000 people are thought to have attended 2008's downsized event at the LA Convention Center, while In its heyday a glitzy E3 attracted around 60,000 attendees.

"We just need to decide where the dial needs to go," ESA boss Gallagher acknowledged.

I do too. I do too.

Sony disappointed about FFXIII - but here's one thing that really stood out.

Speaking to the concept of paying third parties for exclusives, Tretton said that Sony has "invested so much money in the [PS3] hardware" that it simply "can't write checks for exclusive software."

Wow. If they spent that much money no wonder they are doing everything they can to reduce costs (no PS2 BC, removing hardware features, etc).

That is very interesting. The next gen console battle will be interesting especially since Sony cannot fall back on a new format for movies. I wonder how many other exclusives will jump on the same bandwagon between now and then? They cannot afford to lose too many. No console can unless exclusive titles go the way of the dodo.

Yeah, whom didn't see this one coming.

You kill most of the foot traffic meaning those studios not big enough to attract a lot of press coverage aren't going to be able to justify the expense of going. You are then left with a handfull of giants in the room wondering what was so special about have an organized event to hear a couple press conferences.

Portal: Still Alive - Same game as the Orange Box but with more puzzles.

peaking with Valve's Doug Lombardi earlier this week at E3, we got onto the topic of the upcoming Xbox Live Arcade version of Portal. I wanted to know what gamers could expect from the game and why Valve decided to tweak it for the XBLA release.

"It's about giving gamers more choices, more points of entry to get to the party, open more gates to the theme park as it were," he said. "It makes a lot of sense for us.

"The main idea is that this is Portal available as a download, and there is additional content as advanced challenges that will be available to you after you finish the critical path of the game."

But will we be seeing more of GlaDOS this time around, or perhaps an extended storyline?

"No," he said, breaking hearts everywhere. "That's for a game to be named later perhaps."

Hmm, somewhat disappointing but probably good for those that haven't bought/rented The Orange Box.
