i know ritek g04 is nsuppose to work at 4x with the sony. that's why i bought it. but i know that i am not the only that can't get them to work at 4x, but 2x. I hear it's batch dependent.

As for the new firmware, i am running 2.0c
I heard the new firmware is actually more conservative for safer burns, meaning it will slow down more to result in a more reliable burn.

Which sony - 510a, 500ax? Been meaning to try out the Ritek's - agreed that most say the quality of these are top notch.

it'd be helpful if people can report what brand the DVD-Rs actually are for the Meritline, All-Media, etc. store brand.

Dupe-EZ seems to be the best for the money especially if you have a pioneer A-05

$1.08 per disc and burns at 4x fine and seems to also burn at 4x on the Sony dual format with the newest firmware

Does anyone have a Toshiba SD-R5112 drive? I just received mine from AVLogic.com and I have 3 failed verifications out of the 5 DVDs I burned. The media I'm using at the moment is CompUSA (Optodisk). I can't be sure if it's the fault of the drive or media. BTW, I'm burning the data in Mac OS X 10.2.6 using Toast Titanium 5. I'm going to try it in the Dell later.

I'm not sure but according to the dvdrhelp.com, DupEz is Leadda or Leda. If it was true, then we should buy the Leda DVDR from Shop4Tech which has 100 pack for $100.00 + free shipping.

Please someon confirm this?????

EDIT: No I was wrong.

Maybe I should upgrade my firmware. Anybody else with other experiences with firmware upgrade on sony 500ax? i have 2.0c (out of the box). Will it improve my chance of burning 4x or will it have an opposite effect of burning more conservatively and slower but producing more reliable results?

Seems to be Samsung media with fairly good comments.

BeALL is EXCELLENT media. Much higher quality when compared to Ritek. Also the reason they cost more.

Anyone know how thick the tops are for printible DVDs (like the DpuEZ ones). Silver tops tend to flake of pretty easy.

Is Ritek the best DVD media out there?

I would say Ritek is one of most popular DVD+/- R media out there, but its really a matter of opinion. For my case (and depending on the burner of course), I think Riteks are a good bang for your buck, since they combine reasonable prices with pretty darn good performance. Some people have not had so much luck, but again, it really depends on the burner and what you're looking for (1/2/4x, etc.)

So really, to EACH his/her own burner!

Supermediastore was running a big scam with those discs a few months back. They were selling them as Maxell for $2.00 a pop. After a while they even changed the same page to "Mediapro" even though it still said yatayata/yatayata/maxell.htm. I wouldn't order from them again on general principle, though the discs actually work at 1X.
