Really n00b question here... Me and my wife played D3 when it came out into Hell mode, and got a bit bored of the same storyline...

My wife saw the commercials on TV for the new D3 Expansion, and wants to play again...

Is there more than 1 expansion out?

Furthermore, do I have to buy both expansions if there are more than 1? Or can I just buy the most recent one and get both in one?

1 expansion and there is no more hell mode. The difficulty of the monsters now scales with your level, but there are also 10 difficulty levels to choose from.

I suggest you try it out. And if you do, send an invite request to the Anandtech clan, we have around 60 members.
 
it's still basically a gear grind game, but with the adventure mode and rift hunts, along with improved loot drops, item stat categories and the further enhancements coming next patch, it's an exponentially more enjoyable "grind" process than before, especially in groups.

Anyone have any idea when the patch goes live? *The real patch not the shitty PTR* I haven't been following Diablo for weeks now.
 
Just logged on and played 30 minutes or so... HOT DAMN that's fun! I thought I would miss the auction house, but with all the awesome drops that happen I don't miss it a bit!

I don't remember if I ever got a Legendary item from level 1-55, but I already got one in the past 30 minutes!

Yep, getting back into it 🙂

Like I said before, dungeon crawlers don't get any better than D3.

There is a free trial on PC, and a demo on PS3 and 360. They will definitely give you enough of a taste to decide if this game is for you.

No real way of giving you a legit response without more details from you. Your likes, dislikes, etc. This is a grinding for loot game. You gotta put in hundreds of game time hours and repeat everything over and over again.

Check out some youtube videos of gameplay and see if it interests you.
 
Anybody know if the PS/XB players are on their own separate servers or is everybody playing together? As in, console players and PC players together or separate?
 
There is no cross-platform play.

Xbox on Live, PS on PSN, both have hooks in bnet, but they're not playing with PC players.
 
I suspect Blizzard is going to get 2.1 out as soon as possible now. It looks like some of the more popular D3 streamers are at least trying out PoE again and enjoying it!
 
Woah. Have you guys read the launch notes today?

50% increased gold find starting tomorrow, running until servers go dark for update - on August 26 @ 3am PST (which I assume means 2.1 goes live following that maintenance break).

Treasure goblin portals go to a new realm - tons of loot available - and the Baroness guarding it as the boss! Go check it out, looks fun!
