Waded in and tried it - and it was quite fun and still fairly easy. I can still take down goblins but have to focus more on them now. Burned through the last third of Act 2, took down Belial with no issues, got two legendary drops that were both serious upgrades.

And, yes, the extra gold is definitely welcome!
🙂

Even on hard it's ridiculously easy as a crusader, compared to my first time leveling as a monk. If this wasn't hardcore mode there's no way I wouldn't be on Expert at this point. The only thing that slows me down in the slightest is those Frozen elites that pop up here and there. I'm pretty much on autopilot until I see the freeze globes dropping, then I have to pay a little attention.

Mid 30's right now, early in Act 3 (about to go down into the maze under the fortress).

Yeah, heh, just do it...on HC...haha!! Actually, I might, but switch back before boss fights if it's tougher than I like.

This crusader seems to be much more resilient than my monk. By this point, leveling the monk, had died probably 3-4 times getting caught in packs that I couldn't handle or get clear of to pick off individually. Could be experience, I suppose, but I've been playing these kind of games for >20 years, so...

Your monk dying probably had a lot to do with the fact that it wasn't HC 😉 But yeah Crusaders are tough as nails. Just try to have more than 12k damage and 290k toughness on Mal if you're on Expert then!

Oh and if losing this character will mean you won't play HC anymore don't listen to me about Expert, lol

Nah, losing the character would suck but it wouldn't turn me off from HC. The risk is what makes it more fun than normal mode. And I'm definitely enjoying this more than I did leveling either my monk or WD.

How well do DH do in HC? It's viable, I assume? Because I have a DH in the mid 20's but in normal mode, I might try that next in HC as it is a pretty fun class, although not even close to as tanky as the crusader.

let's put it this way, i was using a DH on Master from lvl 1 to lvl 30 just into Act 2 so they're viable for sure! Since dropped down to Hard after losing that crusader but will probably go back to Expert. They're not as tough but if you watch your discipline you can escape from anything.

Heh. And I'm the noob here, almost hit level 40 last night on my first time through HC before had to get some sleep. Stupid work, interfering with my gaming time!

So, I had the weirdest thing happen last night. I upped the difficulty to Expert, played about 1.5 hours. It was quite a bit more challenging and downright fun. At that point, I happened to be standing still after a tough fight, checking out the gear that dropped. When suddenly, my network disconnected. I have been playing D3 for I think 3-4 months now, very regularly, and have never, not once, had a dropped connection. I have been playing the hardcore toon for a week or so, also no connection issues. I switch to HC Expert and it drops, for the first time ever? Coincidence? Or does Blizzard just mess with us sometimes? Would have been really, really severely pissed if had lost my toon due to a network problem, especially when I have NEVER EVER had a problem like that before. Very strange, makes me very hesitant to play anymore in Expert mode (my crusader could likely survive for a few seconds even in elite fight on hard mode if I dropped connection - but certainly would not survive if dropped in Expert mode).

Never happened to me either. But will Diablo iii always be online...can't see any reason why blizzard still not making it. Those microtransactions are not there , series is finished, then why they still not making it offline?

I just came back from Fry's and saw they had a few Diablo 3: RoS Collector's Editions for $49.99. A great price for anyone looking to get the CE. I think it MSRPed for $80 originally.

YMMV of course.

Edit: Realized I didn't put "RoS" before CE, sorry if I made anyone think it was the original D3 CE.
