tl;dr - Can anyone help me understand the nuances of magic find? Links are much appriciated if you have suggested reads!

I've read that changing equiped skills and spells before bosses has a detrimental effect on magic find, and thus the quality of loot dropped is lower. However, changing equiped gear will not have a negative impact. This is confusing because I was under the impression each RNG event was completly seperate from all others. One suggestion was to switch out equipment in my build before opening certain chests to increase magic find... sounds like a lot of hassle to me. Does anyone do this?

Anyway, I feel like such a dunce. I have a lvl 30 wizard and have been focusing my gear only on vitality, intelligence, and damage. Turns out, magic find % has a HUGE impact on the quality of loot found in the game. I was playing with two buddies yesterday and they both have 101% magic find. They both had great gear without using AH, and one had 3 set items and a legendary as a lvl 27 WD. I think I'm going to start a new demon hunter and prioritize magic find.

only once you reach 60 do you take a penalty for switching out skills

when you hit Lvl 60, you can obtain a buff called Nephalem Valor for killing Elite packs

this buff can stack up to 5 times and each stack gives +15 MF/GF. the buff lasts 30 minutes and will rebuff to 30 minutes after killing an elite pack.

changing skills will remove this buff from you immediately. the reason why you want a 5 stack Nephalem buff is that you are guaranteed 2 rare drops after killing a story boss (does not have to be an end of act boss)

do not focus on trying to gear toward magic find while leveling. I'd suggest building up a set of MF gear starting at Hell though just so you'll have MF gear to switch to when opening up a chest or killing an elite pack.

My account got hacked. Lost my loot, armor, gold, everything. Just checked my battle.net account and the WoW starter edition has been added to my games. Never played in a public game once. I'm pissed.

Ouch!

Did you have an authenticator linked to your account?

Sounds pretty obvious that the guy lost his password if they attached WoW to his account. If it was just this "session ID" mumbo jumbo that you hear, it should have just been Diablo III that was affected as it would only provide access to that character (and the stash of course).

#1 rule of the Internet... don't trust the Internet.

Although, Blizzard's own protection mechanisms can be more annoying than not. I'm going up to Chicago this week, and I guarantee that I'll have to change my password if I log into Diablo III or World of Warcraft. I guess Blizzard's assumption that all gamers are basement dwellers doesn't necessarily pan out at times. :|

This game is fun, there are some good things about this game but there are some annoying things to me that I hate WoW for:

Res timers are POINTLESS
Potion cooldown
Town portal
Not being able to travel between acts in game
WD pets need a buff, BIG one at that. The dogs are worthless and Gargantuan just about the same as the dogs. Give WD a pet bar like pet users in WoW since they want to copy it so much.
Mercs are dumb. Why does Diablo put them in a cage and you can;t use them. I thought they were there to be used???

With regards to the professions:
Blacksmithing sucks and is overpriced
Jewelcrafting requires too much money to get jewels when they don;t rain from the sky every 2 minutes

What is up with resists on Inferno? You die in 1 second from anything. I may just go to zero and get other gear.

My WD does 24k dps and I finally ran into a unique that I could not kill. I got his minions dead but he killed me over and over and over. I could barely get him down to 75%.

Every resist in the game, physical and elemental, work based on your level and your opponents level. Since npcs start at 60 or 61 in inferno, your best case scenario is your resists will be at what it says in your detail bar. Im not sure the exact details on how resists and armor work with monsters higher level than you, but the higher the monster the less effective your defensive stats are.

^ Just imagine how the average player feels

My wizard does 19k with 46k life. I tried running the great span wp unique and whoever spawned 1 hit killed me every single time. I don't have the best character but my gear is pretty good and reasonably expensive. I can't imagine how anyone could beat inferno diablo or izzy

Monk and Barb tanking, Monk heals them both.

Two people run around DPSing.

It is to a point that I think as a ranged, you don't even need to bother just about. It seems like a difference of 0.5 seconds and you can't move that fast.

I got a response for my what appears to be a hacked account.

Kind of bullshit in my opinion. It's amazing that if I have put myself at risk so easily as Blizzard states, that my bank accounts, facebook, government student loan websites etc havn't been hacked as well. Of course it's not them... you know.. I've only had a bank account on the internet for over 10 years... diablo 3 I've had for about a week and it's my fault it's hacked.

Anyways.. Their response:

Greetings,

Thank you for contacting Blizzard Customer Support regarding your Diablo III account.

Each Diablo III account is limited to two rollbacks. We cannot guarantee the availability of future rollbacks beyond these two. Because of this, we require your approval to use a rollback to address this situation. If you would like us to proceed, please respond to this ticket and clearly state that you wish to use one of your two rollbacks. If you do not respond, no restoration will be made for this issue.

***Please do not play on the account in any region after requesting a rollback, as any progress gained before the account is rolled back will be permanently lost.***

To address a compromise, we will use a periodically updated rollback point to roll your account back to a prior state. Though rollback points are regularly updated, they may not be current when a compromise occurs. Progress (such as levels, achievements, and items) gained after the rollback point was saved but before the compromise occurred may be permanently lost when we roll back your account. Customer Support cannot adjust rollbacks in any way, nor can we assist with progress lost as a result of the rollback.

Note: After the first compromise rollback occurs on a Battle.net account, that account's access to the Diablo III Real Money Auction House will be restricted until an authenticator is attached. If you elect to refrain from adding an authenticator, and the account is compromised a second time, access to the Diablo III Real Money Auction House will be revoked.

Account security is critically important. To help protect your account, see the Compromised Diablo III Account support article linked above for account and computer security instructions and tips.
For $60, they should include the fucking authenticator in the box.

Oh, and I'm now locked out of my single player game until this rollback occurs or I'll just be waisting my time. Guess I'll read the box or something.
