I doubt it will become a rare collectible. Game companies have become wise about the huge cost of aftermarket Collectors Editions, and are producing enough of them to exceed demand.
 
There's been 3 expansions and SC2. At least 2 of those 4 I can go to the store after work today and pick up a copy from the shelf.

A copy of the base game, or a copy of the CE? The SC2 CE has not been available at all since right after the game came out. I have the SC2 CE, it took some finding to get, as the first two places I ordered from "ran out".
 
Was in walmart last week and they had a dozen sc ce. sure best buy and gamestop does too along with the cata ce's I've seen recently.

Really sucks we have to wait til Pacific time in the east. Why not just make it EST, so those in the west can play at 8? I don't care if they get to play in prime time, but perhaps that is what Blizzard is worried about - being swamped if it goes live like that.

Mainly play late at night (9PM-3AM EST), and a medium power player - I'll rush a second player, but not planning on rushing with the first.

Wal-mart.com has no SC2 CE's. If you are seeing them in store, they must be left overs. But in order to have a dozen of the CE versions, they must have had a whole wall dedicated to them. The CE box is pretty big.

And if you do a search using google shopping, ebay is the only place that has some. Amazon shows a few scattered around numerous retailers, but none themselves.
 
Does anyone know if the downloaded beta client can be used for retail or patched to retail?
I don't think so, but I thought I'd ask.
Retail is also ~7gigs, correct?
 
I so want to play this, but my eng internship is driven by construction season so i wont' really get any time for it... UGH
 
Am I the only one initially disappointed about Diablo 3?

They completely botched the rune system from a dynamic combo one to a lazy ass fixed linear one.

Before you would socket runes which gave you different effects. Now they're not even 'runes' but an automatic passive effect fixed to each spells.

I was totally turned off by this. Anyone else?

The whole game seems to be very controlled. We'll see how it turns out. I think it will be as fun as any hack&slasher loot game is, but I don't think it will be anything near D2 in terms of fun/freedom and re-playability
