Instrument panel is hideous. And I'm not really fond of the RX8-style fender flares.

Agreed. The console looks terrible. Exterior is nice. The sloping top edge of the side-windows is kinda wierd, but I'd have to see it in person. :)

Just showed my parents the design (we've got the W220 and the one before as well [don't remember the chassis designation]). He said he might not go for the W221. Maybe an Audi (my recomendation) or a BMW 7 Series facelift (don't know when it's due in Europe though, or is it already out?). Sad to say that Mercedes is going down hill like this. Now all they car about is the money, and not the prestige. Back in the days, any merc that you would have owned would have meant you were a big shot, but now they have the A, B, C, E, S, SL, SLK, CL, CLK, CLS classes, which is just too broad a range of price ranges. It's a bit like saying Rolls Royce, or Bentley, made a cheaper car (somewhere in the 60 - 80k US$ range), which would also suck. I'm very disappointed by Mercedes, and I used to love them :(

I dont like the cowls extending over the LCD, but I guess it makes it easier to see during the day.

All in all I think its a little bit more bland than I was expecting, but it'll still outsell the 7-series. I think the headlights are too boring, esp. compared to other MB cars. And the interior isn't great, but I've been in a current-gen S class and they are among the most comfortable cars on the road. I'm sure it'll still feel great.

New [official] pictures of the S class can be found here

5.2 meters [for the longer chassis] ~ Maybach length!

is it me, or does the front seat interior looks a lot lot like the lexus ES/camry??

and yes i agree w/ the comment that it looks a lot better than the maybach, although it would be nice to keep that 5th passenger seat :(. Well, it kind of looks like a folddown center console in the back, but that middle thing below it still does not look like a seat :(

I guess you can't have adjustable rear seats if you have a middle seat :(.

Actually, even if you do have that middle seat, you can move the other two seats, and the middle seat won't move (I would know ;)) but it makes it look cheap, so i think it's better with the middle console. the only problem is that we are a family of five, and the middle seat may be needed some times.

It probably does look better in person... the pics make it look a bit small. And no, it doesn't look anything like a Focus.

meh standard mercedes stuff

its good to see them moving back to their quality over engineered building methods again though, they've been dropping the ball in the past few years.

im not a fan of this design though. i liked the new CLS that was on top gear. but this looks abit too japanese, i prefere the the current S-Class shape. the back of this new one is just ugly

my favourite looking merc however is the current CL500 that car is LONG!
