December 6, 2006 ? Lexus will stage the world premiere of the 2008 IS-F sport performance car and an exciting concept vehicle at a press conference at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The IS-F is an all-new high-performance version of the popular Lexus IS 250/350 sport sedans. It will feature unique styling and a substantial boost in power from a V8 powerplant that will captivate performance car enthusiasts when it goes on sale next year. In addition to the IS-F, Lexus will unveil an exotic sports concept.

The press conference will be held on Monday, January 8 at 11:25 a.m. EST in the Riverview Ballroom in COBO Center and simulcast live to the Lexus display area at the show. A video clip of the press conference will be available via the Lexus.com and pressroom.lexus.com Web sites immediately following the event.

That think had better come in a manual. Not bastardized like the 350.

I really think it will. And once that manual is developed hopefully it will filter down as a drop-in to the IS350 along with some other cars.

I hear that it'll get the 8-speed auto from the LS.

I say that it should get a 6-speed semi-auto at the least.

Damn WTF is wrong with Lexus?

Nice, hopefully there'll be more exciting cars than last year.

Still trying to get myself into the black-tie event...we'll see.

Aren't the 350s auto with a manual mode?

Yes, and that's not a manual. 😉

Yeah, the auto with manual mode is still a slushbox with all the losses that come with the package, it just lets the driver tell it when to change gear (and shifts are generally slower).

The more sophisticated exotics that have paddle shift with automatic modes are manual gear boxes built to change gear under control of actuators rather than the driver's arm and leg, complete with clutches, the whole nine yards, and don't suffer the same losses that an auto box would have (the downside is that it's much harder to electronically control a manual than it is to give the driver direct control of an auto - with the auto they just put a different chip in the car's computer and add some buttons for the driver to press for gear changes, going the other way they need to have a clutch actuator and all the control gear for same, not to mention some sort of actuator mechanism to physically change gear. Much harder task.

For $70,000 I'm pretty sure I can get more car for my money elsewhere. Anything over $60k is still too much for a sport compact from Lexus.
