before all the SEC jock-riders come in here and say, 'oh, well that's just SEC, great defenses,' louisiana tech scored more than 7x the points on this same msu defense, and even southeastern louisiana scored more than 3x the points. that's right, auburn's offense is worse than a AA team.

Auburn's Offense played horrible. So what? The Big 12 doesn't exactly play that well in their bowls or when they play SEC teams. Auburn has beaten Nebraska, Kansas State, Wisconsin, Clemson, Washington State, and other non-conf teams in recent years. It isn't as if the SEC only plays SEC teams and never wins titles.

Last year both Auburn and Texas played Kansas State. Auburn won 23-13 and Texas lost 41-21. So, Texas scored less points and allowed more vs. a common opponent but the SEC did something wrong?

Doesn't matter. You are talking about the SEC in general and last year's performances certainly do play a role in the respect given to each conference. You want to cry about Auburn's offense but last year your own team did worse vs. a common opponent. The SEC's reputation doesn't exist in a vacuum. They have been consistent winners and have been winning Championships. Reputation comes from past performance. Auburn has gone to 8 straight bowls and has beaten numerous non-conf opponents. The third game of the year doesn't make a team nor a conference.

LSU and floriduh have been winning championships. the rest, not so much. auburn got locked out a few years back and has consistently been good (thanks for two defensive coordinators, btw), but other than that, tennessee is way down, kensucky blows, miss state blows, vandy blows, ole miss blows, alabama is on the rise, georgia is probably going to do what it always does and lose some game it shouldn't, and south carolina is probably going to sit tight as a decent second-tier team.

outside of tigers and gators (over the last few years) the SEC isn't nearly as good as everyone tries to claim it is. best conference, probably. head and shoulders out ahead of everything else, not really.

i mean you cannot honestly say that what you just saw on the field was a good offense that was just getting stymied by a good defense. auburn's offense last year wasn't all that great, that's why they're trying the spread this year. and so right now they're even worse than they were last year.

I'll be back here to point it out again when it happens

great, what does that have to do with the price of tea in china? not that it's going to happen, mind you.

I certainly didn't say it was. I agreed with you. I just feel your attack on the SEC over one football game is a bit unwarranted.

Yes, there were several games today when the SEC did not look impressive, but barring the Kentucky game they were all Conference games. If UCLA beats CAL 58-54 in a barnburner people talk about how great a game it is. Same if it is Texas or OU. But a defensive game is not given any credit (and I am NOT talking about today's game -- that was due to two inept offenses).

i was really attacking auburn's and msu's inept offenses (it's the only game i'd been able to watch all day, though GA wasn't exactly inspiring and south carolina seemed to get more yards on penalties than offense for the bits i caught on the radio). i was trying to head off SEC fan who refuses to admit to bad play when they see it. i do think there are more inept offenses in the SEC than SEC fan will claim.

BTW, as far as the two D-coordinators...we are not crying over either one. We replaced Chizik with Muschamp and now we have Paul Rhodes from Pitt. No matter who we have we are always in the Top 10 in the nation. To be honest, I like Rhodes more than Muschamp. Muschamp is great at firing the players up (he is a good coordinator, too), but Rhodes seems to teach better technique and has our D being more consistent instead of always going for the big play.

Pac - 10 just looked bad today.
UCLA gets humiliated by BYU
WA crushed by OK
Cal looses to Maryland.
AZ looses to NM
and ASU looses to UNLV
At least the Oregons and USC won but the MWC just tore the Pac10 a new one. I'm laughing my ass off at the ASU loss though as I am currently teaching at UNLV and as a AZ native who always hated ASU its just funny to see them loose to a team as admittedly bad as UNLV

KSU had the Auburn game won until our tackle got burned with about a minute left. And we had a down year last year.

The Big 12 as a whole is perennially one of the top conferences.

*clears throat* USC is over-rated. We beat a chump team last night. We have a cup-cake schedule. As fans, we will all jump ship when the NCAA sanctions finally rain down upon USC like hellfire.
