I need some cheering up, so share any fun holiday traditions you guys have!

edit: ok, i've always wanted to make an "Official" thread.....

Guess i should start.

we have a large family, so the holidays are always fun. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are all big family get togethers are a designated family member's home. Tons of food and good times. Thanksgiving is always interesting, because we have a good mix of Korean and traditional Thanksgiving foods. Turkey and kimchee 🙂

The younger cousins then usually play games or go see a movie, after dinner is over. Always fun.

🙂

When I became engaged to my now husband, I was given a ribbon necklace with a bell on it. Everyone in the family gets one and they wear it on Christmas day, whether hey are together or not. Its a nice tradition. It makes you think of the family when you see it 🙂

that's great 😀

Christmas Eve: Everyone arrives. We have a huge lunch/dinner of nothing but fingerfoods. Usually about 25 different things to munch on. We usually bust out the board games after everyone has stuffed themselves. Stock Market, Balderdash, and a Men vs. Women game of Pictionary. The men hold a 10-4 lead over the women and we will continue to dominate.

Christmas: Nobody gets to open presents till everyone is up, has eaten a huge Christmas breakfast, and cleaned up all the dishes. We usually open presents around 11 a.m. We have a rule that everyone must buy 1 gift each that wasn't asked for as a suprise for everyone else. It makes for some interesting suprises. After that, we all play with your new toys for several hours, then stuff ourselves silly with a grand feast. After dinner, those who are still awake go to a movie, probably LOTR this year.

I love that game.

BTW- My family is Armenian-->we eat.

Hm..from about 1996 - 1999 (short-lived, but fun nonetheless)...it was a tradition to catch a movie on the 26th then hang out at the mall or each others' houses.

But we all stopped caring as we all got older so we stopped doing the tradition.

edit: oh...we = siblings & cousins.

edit 2: best wishes for you and your family...and I hope all goes well with your grandfather.

Oh yeah.! I forgot! We eat lots! And my husbands parents make us spend the night at their place so they can wake us up in the morning and say santa came.

We play games. Old games that no one has ever heard of but they played growing up.. like "lock", and then ofcourse a few new games that someone is bound to get for Christmas.

After we open the presents we make a large breakfast, and then play around with our new toys until dinner time. Some of us nap 🙂

sounds like a great family tradition 🙂

In our family, someone takes a huge stinker of a dump in the bathroom and everyone takes a whiff of it before we sing Christmas carols.
