Sure he did, he was tough about it though, the defenseman brought chopped his stick right under his shield when he was down.

Well, in my hockey-viewing experience, you will always get jabbed or cross-checked if you are even near the crease. Getting tangled with the goalie doesn't help much, and it doesn't matter if it was the goalie's fault. His teammates are going to be gunning for you.

Trust me, it was no surprise to Fleury. ;)

Yeh but he was messin with the goalie. Took some guts, just layin there. The defenceman was ticked, he pulled up while slashing him right across the beak. Think he got him pretty good though with just the tap. Not sure if it was the blind cross that did most of the damage. Plus he made the third goal happen, gotta praise the effort.

Yeah, they had the right to get pissed at Fleury for laying on top of Hasek but a hard cross-check was not the way to fight back.

Fluery is awesome. He keeps getting knocked down, but he keeps going!

I love it when he gets under the other teams' skin. He was pissing off Sundin in the first game ;)

Uh huh, he fell on the goalie, and took a bit of time getting up, and he deserved to get a stick in the face, and a cowardly check from behind right in the center of his back. Yeah right, brilliant observation

Maybe you should stand away from someone while they come up behind you and give you one in the back? We'll see how "I asked for that" you are when you can barely stand. Pretty darn un-sportsman like, one of the biggest problems with the sport these days.

Looks like Canada will get a chance to eliminate Finland who beat us for the bronze in 98' :D Either way the one of the top teams, czechs (gold 98') or the russians (silver 98') will be out :D

So it loks like the quarter final matches are looking like this

Sweden Vs Belarus

Russia Vs Czechs

Canada Vs Finland

USA Vs Germany.

Anyone want to make predictions?

I think The semi's will have Sweden, Canada & USA for sure........ figuring out Russia Vs Czechs is tough but I'll give it to the Czechs ;)

ps. Grommet5 don't you want Canada to pound Finland ;)

Cheers,

Come now, Zuni, you are smarter than that. There is a little thing called "context". Those situations are not even remotely comparable. People are unlikely to go around with sticks cross-checking each other in everyday activities. In hockey, however, it is pretty damn common when a guy is just standing in front of the crease. If he gets tangled with the goalie you can be sure that 99% of the time he's going to get roughed up. Especially if he takes his time getting untangled in order to keep the goalie down and the net open in the last minute of a tied game (and to me it seemed pretty damn obvious that is exactly what he was doing).

He knew it was coming. If he didn't, he's naive. I never said that the cross-check didn't deserve a penalty, I merely stated that he had to know it was going to happen.

Try again. ;)
