Article. Sedan price is exact same as M3 sedan! Pretty surprising as I was expecting much higher price, will probably sway buyers looking at power only.

The 2009 C63 AMG will have very few changes to the Model Year 2008 (other than the VIN tag letter change!) We are definitely planning to offer P30 Perfromance Package by then which will have the LSD, big brakes etc. Pricing should be well below the other P30 packages.
 
I'm not sure I get the appeal of this car versus an M3, which will outhandle it all day long and has a manual transmission. The C63 seems like a giant engine mounted to a chassis that isn't up to the task. I'm sure it's a blast in a straight line, but I don't see any reason to think it will hang with an M3 in any other environment. Obviously most people will never take the car to a track, but the C63 (which more or less tied an RS4) was hammered by the M3 when Top Gear took them around the Ascari track.

Have you ever driven a C63 AMG?

The interior and overall car just screams luxury. It's a beauty to drive and the power is downright scary at times. There were many times where I really didn't want to or have to floor it and when I did it was a rush, a sure footed gut wrenching rush.

And on the no manual - this is better than driving a manual.

No, I haven't.

I don't question that it's very fast - it just seems to me it's overpowered for its chassis.

No automatic is better than driving a manual. I dislike automatics and I will never, ever voluntarily choose an automatic over a manual in a performance car.
 
The 7 speed is far from your average automatic "slush box"

Also, people make the car seem worse than it is, handling wise. It is still better than 90% of the cars on the road, combine sticky summer tires and the thing grips pretty well.

Hell, the much bigger, heavier E55/63 handles pretty solidly. An LSD option would be nice...

The chassis has no problem holding up, its very re-enforced and sturdy, the weight obviously reflects that.

Suspension is most likely upgraded from the std. C class, tires too obviously. I don't know if they still use bilstein for the AMG's.

Over powered, is that ever a concern unless your still spinning the tires in 4th?

I'm the same way. Until I drove this. I'd take it over a manual - the shifts are wicked fast and the control is still there.

The problem with it being overpowered is that it's entirely reliant on its traction control to keep it on the road - it simply doesn't have the handling required to deal with all that power. The understeer and lack of control on that TG clip, where it's being driven by a professional race car driver, is a perfect illustration of the problem.

I don't doubt that this thing is a beast in a straight line, but I question whether it has real sports-car credentials, particularly compared to its natural competition, the M3.

Still not my thing. I don't question that it can shift faster than I can, but it can't make me have fun shifting it. Even a DSC, which seems to be the best available automanual system, seems boring to me compared to a three-pedal manual. A full auto with a torque converter is even worse. To each his own, but I am just not an automatic-transmission guy.
