Its sold out almost everywhere.

Just goes to show how stupid people really are.

AMD shovels a pile a dog doo in front of people and they still gobble it up because "intel is evil"

pathetic

You did see the chart where bulldozer consumes twice at much power to accomplish the same task as sandybridge? And you still went will bulldozer?

Maybe they plan on using it in one of the (very few) scenarios where it excels? It does do a few things very well.

Pathetic is the word since you re talking about 20 to 30$/year...

There s lot more means to earn that much money..

Any guesses to whether BD will look better as a server chip than it does as the 8150?

Seems initial shock over bulldozer is over...just seems like people trying to find some justification for the purchase while others simply are against it period.

'Principle' seems like a very good reason to me.

Also, shouldn't you be happy about this? The more stuff AMD sells, the more money it has for R&D for the next round and, maybe, for fixing this line of products with newer steppings. Furthermore, well selling bulldozers may compel intel to drop prices now.

You can PayPal me money to help fund my Bulldozer purchase. Once I get enough donations to get an 8120 for $99 out of pocket, I'll buy one.

That way we can all support AMD and i won't get royally screwed.

At least IPC INCREASES, so it's not all that bad.

They should have just copied Sandy Bridge just like the good old days. And left out the GPU, nobody wants that shit.

Fuggit 2500k here i come.

Why did AMD put so much L2 cache on the die anyway?

What does this have to do with my post?

That just like what you posted, it makes no sense.

You're a bad consumer if you knowingly buy inferior products. You're rewarding AMD for their failure.

This pretty much sums-up the BD reviews:

Bad IPC
Decent performance/dollar (8120/8150)
Poor performance/watt
Shiny box

... because I don't rationalize my purchases with the delusion that it might fund a product that is actually worth my money?

If you really feel bad about it, just Paypal AMD some money. You can feel good that you helped to foster competition without having the poorly received processor serve as a negative reminder.

Love it!

Slogan should be 'Buy Intel, donate to AMD'. :D

Truly a disappointment. I was hoping for something with moderate ipc increases and a small to decent advantage over sandy bridge in highly threaded apps. Instead, I get lower ipc, slow l2/l3 cache, not even beating sandy bridge in many highly threaded situations. Really I can only see bulldozer making sense in some server environments, but definitely not desktop usage. AMD better have a good refresh soon with piledriver, they badly need it.

The funny thing is that comments from AMD earlier were that they weren't revealing the launch date or benches early due to giving their competition a leg up. Seriously? They had to know months ago how bad this was going to be. As if Intel would see how great it was early and have to respond.

I just can't see this being a great server product unless the power usage is reigned-in. Performance per dollar will be the saving grace, and AMD will need to sell these cheaply to get people to buy them over more efficient Intel offerings.

THey would have responded by hiking up the Sandy Bridge prices.

Yea there's definitely some danger that server usage won't be that great either, but I'm guessing that high integer performance will actually possibly be useful here. And that is the main advantage bulldozer has if anything. Also I assume they'll have ways to decrease power consumption via various methods.

You know what this feels like? Going from the Geforce 4 series to the Geforce FX series. It took until the Geforce 6 series for a return to form for Nvidia. The major problem is, AMD's been wandering in FX-series land for far too long.

I guess my choice for low power Core i3-2100 chips made perfect sense in hindsight. And now I'm guessing I'll probably go Core i5/i7 for my next main system, not even a reason to look at bulldozer for me, I gravitate first toward high single ipc and all around performance.

No one said you had to do anything.

The post was in response to someone who called people who don't buy intel because of their business practices pathetic, which is weird, because we're talking about pieces of silicon here, whereas, in the case of the people lex was referring to, it goes beyond the actual product, all the way up to economical and legal mischief. Or supposed mischief, so as to not offend anybody.

My second point was about the fact that you should feel glad that OTHER people are helping out the underdog, which may lead to fiercer competition, not that YOU, or anybody who didn't buy a bulldozer has to buy it, for any reason.

axel said:
You're rewarding AMD for their failure.

But this is just ideological nonsense. IF supporting the underdog results in more competition, then why does it matter if failure is rewarded? (in before 100 page political debate)

Again, IF.

Again, not YOU, specifically.

edit: Also, if the so called charitable bunch that opts for bulldozer instead, and I quote, evil intel, would have bought SB instead, to avoid "rewarding failure", wouldn't they be rewarding what they see as "evilness" instead?

So your ideology does not apply on other levels either, because you first have to convince that bunch that intel is not evil.

Just remember, next time, all this utter bull-feces we've been fed the past year from certain people, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and shame on me.

Thread after thread, months worth, all bull-feces. Remember this the next time we see people walking like a duck and quacking like a duck. If you don't, shame on you that second time around.

Actually I am sad for AMD right now. I don't consider myself a fan of either company. Unlike some people, I don't suspect that either company really cares about me. They care about shareholders. To that end, I buy what I need when I want it and from whomever. Lately it has been Intel. For some time it was AMD.

However, I did expect something better than this. Being the underdog, I am embarrassed for AMD. Even more sad is that I am seeing people on various forums who cannot deal with reality.

How die hard of a fan do you have to be to not admit that something is terribly wrong when your new 8 core CPU barely meets your old 6 core design. Now we have moved from BIOS problems to "Wait until Win8 comes out". If the scheduling issue is that much of a problem, I would think that AMD had plenty of time to know about it. If they did and they failed to rectify that, its still on them.

Lets face it, designing and executing a CPU is very complex work. Sometimes you simply guess wrong at the start with the wrong design, sometimes something trips you up along the way. Obviously one of the two has happened with BD. But it would be refreshing if the fanboys would simply say "Hmm. This is not good". Instead I am seeing many of them now trying to lay blame somewhere else.

In the end, it is just a CPU, but people really fail to accept reality sometimes. Its not a family member or your wife, if it is bad, say it. If you have been saying all along that it was going to kick ass, own your statements instead of making more excuses.

wasn't this supposed to scale from 10 to 100 watts? wasn't that the chart? the performance would be acceptable if it was a 75 watt part.

i have to wonder what it'd look like coming out of intel's fabs.
