Certainly not one of the best in defense, which somewhat contrasts their world's strongest offense (imo), but their defense is criticized more than it deserves."
Definitely NOT. England didn't play well in 2nd period. If Brazilian defense is strong, they wouldn't have conceded 2 goals to costa rica. Turkey had quite a few chances but they didn't manage to get it in.
My definition of "good defense": controls the midfield and possession well and prevent your opponent to get close to the goal. The midfield of brazil in the turkey match is not very good IMO.
"Ronaldinho's goal was not a "lucky ass" one. While Seaman's injury was a factor, he was not expecting a direct shot. He was slightly advanced and Ronaldinho got a sign from someone (Rivaldo, I think) about Seaman's position, so he attempted to a direct shot. I think that Seaman could've blocked that shot if he was ready but you gotta admit that it was a beautiful one."
Seaman, and every decent goalkeeper *can* knock that one out. You can't blame him though.
"Talking about Brazil, did you notice how many times Brazil was able to turn the game around so quickly? In so many occasions, they fired off a troop of 4 attackers towards the Turkish penalty box that was taken by surprise with only 2 or 3 defenders. Too bad that most of them did not connect to a goal, which was partly because some of the players appeared to care too much about personal stats. Beautiful plays, imo. And the Turkish defense was very impressive, which was also why Brazil never got to score a second goal."
Turkish defense failed miserably against brazilian attacks. There are SO MANY chances which brazil could've scored (shots on goal) but they didn't control it well.
Remember the Korea vs Germany game? Korea got dominated in midfield and they didn't *really* get that many chances to go into the German territory.
