Wow, this was my fist Black Friday

I was on OT last night around 7 when I started seeing all the threads about people lining up at BB already. I decided just to go check out my local BB since its just a few minutes away to see what the line was like. I got there at 7:30 and there were already 120+ people in line!

I decided just to grind it out and see what happens. Turns out I got both monitors that I wanted (22 in westy that i'm typing on right now and the 19 in samsung), and a dvd player. Got in line in about 10 minutes (5:10) and was out the door. :D

From NBC11 news site:

Alarmed by a recent shooting of a customer waiting outside a Connecticut Wal-Mart store for highly sought Sony's PlayStation 3, Clark had tucked his Glock pistol in a holster under his jacket and put extra ammunition in his pocket before heading out early Friday.

"You never know these days," he said, quickly adding that he has a state permit for a concealed weapon.

Fvck this ******. It's not worth it.

Great BF day today. First in line at Best Buy and at CompUSA's 9PM opening. Got every single item we wanted. BB had an excellent manager who controlled the crowd extremely well, helped by two deupty sheriffs, allowed only 50 people at a time into the store, and had everything extremely well organized in the store. Unbelieveably, the staff actually helped anyone and everyone within seconds of having asked a question, and if that person didn't know the answer, actually found another staff member who could accurately answer the question. This BB's staff had been trained up very well and took almost all the pain out of what could have been a trying and very frustrating experience. Of course, not all the pain......still had to pay for our haul.

wait ?

So you bought an item ONLINE...and then STILL got up early, waited in line to pick it up on BF ? WTF...this is even worse....

Besides..i cant believe how many people go thru whatever hassles (going to BB at 2:00am in the RAIN and wait in line for 4+ hours...) just to come home after hours with cr@p like a memory stick worth $9,99

The monitors were sold out, and after realizing that the check out line wrapped from the front of the store all they way to the back, decided to get out of there. So I went to Staples and picked up a couple of 50 packs of HP DVD's for $9.99 each, nr, and a Sandisk 1 gig USB flash drive for $15 and a 1 gig memory stick for another $15. Both of them come with a $7 rebate whcih will knock the price down farther. Staples also had a lot of HP 6 MP digital cameras still available for $99.
Wish I could have got the Samsung monitor, though. I would have waited in that line for it.

I dunno about everyone else but living in the Silicon Valley, you will see millions of engineers at every tech store. I got there at 11 PM last night and I was #120 already. By 4:30 AM there were over 1000 people. My friend got the tickets/vouchers for me and I was gone for a bit and returned at 5:00. The line wrapped around the back of the store past Lowes, Babies R' Us, down the block, blah blah... and they closed the store off afterwards for a good hr or so before they could let even more people in.

It took me at least an hr to check out and I was smart to run off with my ticket for my TV. My friend stood in line for another 2.5 hours trying to get the laptop with his ticket. Basically we didnt get out till 8am. 3 hours in BB. Usually in Fry's we're out within an hour if we know what we want, but BB is just retarded. 18 checkout counters vs Frys' 100. Heh.

my GF scored a 42" LCD for $999 that's at least $1200 + shipping online, a 22" LCD for $199 that's $499 reg and a 27" Westinghouse LCD with tuner for $479 that's $600+ + shipping online. All for about $1800 bucks. We waited in line for 6 hours and she saved $500 bucks if not more. Any way you look at it, it was a pretty awesome deal. TV's are both awesome, dunno about the monitor yet, but $199 for 22" widescreen? great price :)

So some people waited 5+ hours to get items that you save $50 on, that means your time is worth $10/hour. My time is worth more than that. I would need to save $200 on an item I was planning on buying anyway for it to be worth it to stand in line overnight.
