It can be had for well under $200...

What type of frames do you get? Are you running AA and FSAA? What are your settings?

I think I am going to get the Gainward GF4 Ti4200 w/ 64 megs. It can be had for $133+$6 s/h from Newegg.

I did a quick check from the reviews of UT2k3 and the Ti4400's are less than 10% better (150 vs 140 fps) for $60+ more. Not worth it considering I most likely plan on a full system overhaul next Spring/Summer. I just need a filler card for now that can run this damn game.

Now who screwed up with the schedule and made my crack, errr, game show up a few days late?

I have a 1700XP running OpenBSD that I could serve on. Only problem is I only have a cable modem.

That cable modem will probably prevent you from hosting a server.

I remember NFS4 had a server up for about 75 minutes with about 16 people on it. We sucked down over a gig of data in that time. He was on dorm ethernet so his computer/network could handle it.

I'm in, I just don't know how much I'll be able to play.

Name: WoodchuckCharlie

Strengths: Running over people in jeeps, parachuting out of my burning plane, and being able to cuss loudly in the privacy of my own home because I can't kill an enemy 3 feet from me because of the horrible aiming system or lag or whatever is the cause of it.

Weaknesses: Trying to do stupid things in the midst of battle and close combat.

Wants: The ability to snipe with precision, and the ability to shoot an enemy in the chest with the sniper rifle and actually kill them.

I think I have the solution to the server problem.....

here is the recommended specs for a server

CPU/NETWORK 128kbit 256kbit 512kbit T1(1.4Mbit)> 2Mbit 10Mbit> T3(45Mbit)
PIII 500 2 4 8 12 12
PIII 800 2 4 8 20 20
PIII 1300 2 4 8 24 32
PIV 2000 2 4 8 24 64

General rule of thumb:
Cable Modem: 4 - 6 players.
DSL Line: 8 - 10 players
T1+ 16 - X players. (X is dependant on your connection)

Those speeds are weak =P. My cable modem can download at over 600KBytes / sec sustained (4800kbit/sec connection then, no?).

Edit: I'm behind a firewall though =/. So no servering for me.

You could fix that with dmz host or port forwording if you really wanted to.

hmmm that's true. I'd want to play too though, wonder how much of a hit it would be to performance if it was non-dedicated.

Not sure what I get up, the FTP I upload stuff to occasionally is capped in its ability to receive so I'm not sure exactly.

Not sure how accurate this is or if this is my max, but this is what I just got uploading an MP3 real quick thru ftp:

*snip from log file*
Transmitted 4050488 bytes in 47.8 secs, (830.27 Kbps), transfer succeeded

Using DMZ seemed to work. Had a couple people (other than myself) on a server I made earlier this morning. Will set it up non-dedicated later today and hopefully we will get some ATOTers testing it to see if my comp/connection can handle 16 players non-dedicated. If all is well I will bump it to 20 or so. Anyways, the ip should be 24.45.21.107 on the standard BF1942 port, name of the game will be [ATOT] Temp Server so you can look for that as well.

Will set it up later this afternoon when more people are around to play =P.
