I know we don't have a huge current hip hop following on ATOT, but I have to say, some of Drake's more personal shit has been really good. It just feels like it is real to me.

Can't say I've ever listened to Drake honestly. I find him kind of obnoxious lol.

Run the Jewels 2 just released. I liked the first one more just because it was ElP and Mike, but I have to say I'm only on track 4 of RTJ2 and holy shit some of this production is mad and Mike is just a shameless boss as usual. Plus it has Zack De La Rocha on it out of nowhere and one of the later tracks has Travis Barker on it, which I haven't gotten to, but Barker is pretty talented. Definitely impressed and better than the first so far imo.

So, Dr. Dre released a new album out of basically no damn where yesterday. After a FIFTEEN FUCKING YEAR hiatus. Detox??

NOPE, apparently he was unhappy and scrapped that, great. I'm listening to it now for the 1st time, 3 songs in so far...

WTF is this shit? 2nd track's some horrible south wanna be sounding garbage. 3rd song, not sure how I feel about it either. I HOPE this shit gets a lot better. Looking at the track listing I'm not seeing a whole lot of artists I know. No, that's not true. I see names I know, Snoop. Cube, Xzibit, Cold 187UM, Eminem. But I'm not sure who the fuck the new people are. I can't believe it took Dre this long to get an album done.

Yeah I can't tell if this is gonna grow on me or not.

I'm 2/3rd into it now, it's got a lot better than the shit start. But this ain't Chronic or 2001, and this sure as shit ain't the Detox album I've been waiting a decade for. I wonder how long he spent working on it.

Yeah he had some good lines on "back to back", but that shit was seriously baby lotion soft compared to "hit em up"
Drake isn't from the hood, and he can't go the "fucked your bitch" route because he and Nicki are friends.

So he went the opposite route, turned Meek into the female in the relationship. Yeah, it's soft, but I think he did that out of respect for Nicki more than anything.

Meanwhile, Meek pissed off AR-Ab and it sound like he's a dead man if he ever goes back to Philly. 😱

I'm back, this time looking to make a new mix focusing on the last ~10 years or so. My playlist thus far consists of only 3 artists: Run the Jewels, Childish Gambino, and Drake.

I like RTJ because the beats are fire and the lyrics are also great. Same w/ Childish Gambino, except he adds the element of storytelling which to me is reminiscient of Eminem. I don't know what the hell the deal is w/ Drake TBH - some of his stuff is fire, some of it is garbage. The beat on his new(?) single "Nice for What" is insane.

So what else is out there for me ATOT? The 2 most important elements here are 1) beats 2) being able to understand wtf they're saying
