Naruto fillers. Would have been watchable if it wasn't for completely stupid writing. I can deal with a little sub par animation if it had decent writing but bad writing and bad animation just means I have skipped 90% of the fillers. Hopefully they end soon and we can get back to the manga.

Luckily I have plenty of asian shows to tide me over such as the recently remade Return of the Condor Heroes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Return_of_the_condor_heroes

And fans of the Death Note manga will be happy to note there is a live action movie coming out and there is also suppose to be an anime that was recently green lighted.

is the Fruits Basket anime finished? I watched 26 episodes and it kind of seemed to end randomly... I know the manga is still very popular and going strong in Japan, but I wasn't sure about the anime...

I wouldn't really say it was recently green lighted. It's supposed to air in the October season this year, according to moonphase. D.Gray-man is also supposed to have an anime starting this fall too.

Fruits Basket is long over. All 26 eps aired back in 2001.

lets get this topic back on a roll.....

so whats everybody's favorite anime?
I think mine is the Kenshin OAVs.... the one where it talks about him and Tomoe, and how he got his scars. Great storyline, good action scenes, well drawn.

MG? I noticed HG though... I was tempted to buy the single... but I think I've spent enough for this month. Plus I'm going to AX this Saturday. :D

EDIT: Oh and check this out for the people that haven't already. Pretty cool if you're a fan of the show.

Wow, definitely good stuff, a must have bookmark :) I have seen something to the same effect with the library, but not all those places in your link though I expected they would have taken images from real-life sceneries - a common practice among anime/game creators. So far I have marked places from series like Uta-Kata, Fate/Stay Night (game), the Onegai Series and few others to be included in my trip to japan, if that ever happens :)

MG is a pun, supposedely parodying HG Haado Gei Ramon with Medium Gei. MG otherwise stands for "Master Grade" with respect to plastic/resin modeling kits.

I would guess even the most adamant, gung-ho action fanatics of ATOT that limit themselves to the few series unproportionately popluar only in the US would find Utawarerumono very appealing. The skeptics should try watching the opening sequence and see how they like it.

i guess suzumiya haruhi is finished now. i've downloaded all fourteen episodes, and i know that the order in which they aired aren't how the story progresses chronologically (e.g., episode 4 was really episode 7). does it make sense to watch them in the order in which they aired or in the chronological order of the story? i suspect i should watch them in order in which they aired since it looks like the series ends with episode 6...

Medium Gei?? LOL WTF

You have the places from Fate/Stay night? Can you give me a link for them? Speaking of the game, Mirror moon has finished translating the Fate sceneraio. :D UBW is next.

Now that Haruhi is done, I will give Utawarerumono a look, along with a couple others.

I had a good time at the expo, even if I only went for one day. I'm planning on going for the whole 4 day weekend next time around.

I suspect there are primarily two reasons why Kyo Ani aired the anime out of order :
1)The episodes from the book "Melancholy" of the series (8 books in total the series thusfar) is only 6 episodes, and the rest were just thrown in as extra (not in the sense they were any less in quality, eps11 puts most space-themed animes to shame). You would wanna save the best for last, wouldnt you? ;) The story of the first book does culminate to its climax in six episodes, the subsequent episodes would have lost some of their appeal after the final episode of the first book, if aired in a chronological order.
2)It is a bold attempt made by the makers in regards to those who arent familiar with the original text.; each episode sort of progressively reveals bits and pieces of uncertanties, answering some of your questions in the following episodes.

Just in case you havnt seen this yet : http://wiki.sos-dan.com/wiki/Template:Trivia
Granted, the show aint another Pani Poni Dash! But it does pack some good parodies here and there.

Fate/Stay Night : http://www.wa.commufa.jp/~swallow/Fate.html
http://www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown-Knight/3492/
http://www.mitene.or.jp/~katumin/
http://www.mitene.or.jp/~katumin/

The thing is, it is a combination of several sites rather than just one city.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni : http://www.geocities.jp/ojamajoyuki2/higurasisyasinnpage1.htm

As for Fate/Stay Night, good to hear they finally have a full episode translated, I can imagine all that pain and struggle they must have gone through; it really is a crapload of text material. Again, UBW is generally accepted as the most popular of the three, while my personal pick is HF, the last one.

Only if they had AX near where I live :( I really would have gone to see KOTOKO last year, anything you find particularly interesting this year?

There are several interesting series around the corner, although not quite as abundant as the mass salvo of April. So far I have tried Tsuyokiss, Zero no Tsukaima and Binbou Shimai Monogatari. They all look great, looking forward to seeing other stuff like Coyote (ufotable) and whatnot.

oops, forgot about Chevalier :) I only watched the pre-release version of eps1 and thought it was alright, thought not exactly my favorite kind. Innocent Venus was totally meh IMO, though the quality of art was very commendable.
I am watching everything in my sig plus some other less noteworthy stuff like Chocotto Sister, Tonagura and whatnot.

lol, dead thread? Here is my humble attempt at reviving it.
I have finished quite a few recent series, but the big three from this year so far seem to be unparalled by the rest : namely, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu, Utawarerumono and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. Other noteworthy shows include COYOTE the Ragtime Show, Tsuyokiss, Zero no Tsukaima and NHK ni Yokoso (currently on-going), but what all of them shared in common was a decisive lack of a strong finish, with the exception of Haruhi (a picture perfect series, IMO). Higurashi in particular left a lot to be desired towards the second half, where it could have been a MUCH better show than it turned out to be.
Having seen most anticipated shows from the fall season other than Jigoku Shoujo 2, I must say I am midly dissapointed.
Kanon looks great in every way imaginable, which is only to be expected from KyoAni; however, the rest were kinda ok to meh. GA2's humor seems quite detached from what a great precedessor GA seasons1-4 was, despite its much improved and splendid visuals. Not that I was really counting on it to be good, being upset about the entire cast getting an overhaul and all, but I will keep my fingers crossed for improvement. Frankly, I had some hopes for Yoakena for the good repuation its original had. The first episode looked completely mediocre, barely ahead of things like Shuffle! which I wouldnt normally recommend. If this means anthing, I only dropped Buso Renkin so far.

COYOTE fans rejoyce! A sequel to the popular show is rumored to be in works, this time focusing more on the mysterious Marciano's 12 sisters. I have seen people at various anime blogs leaving wishful remarks for a show of that nature, so for some, it is like their wish come true :D

In an effort to revive it as well.

Why not talk about those old(er) EPIC anime's. Or at least what I consider to be epic and a much watch kinda thing.

First off, anything by Shinichiro Watanabe is automatically epic (except the bad stuff :p)

What do you think would be considered an "epic" anime?
Here's a few I think will or are already epic:
-Cowboy Bebop
-Akira
-Ghost in the Shell (and all related material such as SAC/2nd GIG)
-Samuria Champloo
-Kenshin OVA's

So who else wants to add on to the list?? :)

Probably cuz that has been discussed to death x1000 times and not everyone agrees what constitutes EPIC. For me, watanabe would get an automatic exclusion, well almost :p I did enjoy bebop quite a bit, but not too the point to worship it. Champloo on the other hand, bit annoying at points and meh otherwise. Stopped halfway through. No offense, but I see suggestions of that nature arise most often from people who are unwilling to invest time and discover new shows. Just an observation

That being said, there hasnt been any contributions to this thread for the longest time, so why the hell not :) We havnt done this in a while. Starting from year 2000 and being selective to make it more manageable,

In general, I believe anime keeps just getting better and better as time progresses. This is evident when my best picks shift from from Mahoro2 to Uta-Kata, then to Mahoraba, ending up with Haruhi. Plus, the sheer number of shows is increasing at an alarming rate as well; quantity doesnt always translate into quality, but you do get a greater pool for more potential. This year, in particular, saw a near-exponential increase due to a mass volley of shows climaxing in April.

To get relatively balanced opinion of anime, I suggest using animenewsnetwork rather than animenfo. animenfo doesnt even have ratings for some of the very best shows (IMO anyway).

Adding Saikyo no Deshi Kenichi and Negima?! to the list of series to drop from this season. Off to try Jigoku Shojo Futakomori and Asatte no Houkou.

Why not try forcing yourself to watch the episodes??

Man, the Death Note anime rules. Although, I stopped reading the manga halfway through the thing with that company using another Kira. Man, that was boring.

lol, turns out there were whole lot more shows this season than I was aware of, some potentially good ones while at it too. A new list for october shows is in works, I have a feeling I may have to watch more than 20 shows this time
Why not try forcing yourself to watch the episodes??
well I do drop quite a few shows halfway thru if that means anything :p

Asatte no Houkou seems to be a clear winner (besides Kanon, but oh well) to me thusfar.
