It really doesn't matter in practical terms for gamers . . . it's gonna be awhile before those features start to actually show up ingames (and don't bring up Far Cry - only it's lighting appears to use any PS3). :p

Whichever card you get - choose wisely :p - is gonna be so ou of date really soon as both ati and nVidia ramp up the core frequency of their respective cards . . . personally, i'm gonna pick the better performer that ALSO o/c's well. ;)

Dude, just sit down, shut up, and wait for the launch. We already went through this one with the NV40, let's not play the "aimless speculation" game again.;)

If it wasn't for 'aimless speculation', AT forums would be a (much more) boring place. :p

The Inquirer exists because of speculation (and they were pretty darn 'right' on nV40, also).

The LATEST

ATI finds itself in Intel embarrassing situation
AS WE REPORTED earlier today, we were in the Langham Hilton, being briefed by Intel on Grantsdale G.
However, we noticed that while Intel was briefing us on its now famous Grantsdale G chipset - which does not compete with anything, ATI had NDAed loads of journalists too, in the same posh hotel, spookily .

David Ross from hexus.net, Ian Robson from some PC Plus magazine based in Bath and myself confronted a man called Chris Hook, who is apparently some kind of spinmeister.

Hook was briefing people under non disclosure agreements, and looked very cross when we all tipped up. We suspect INTC is behind this one.

We asked ATI's Hook if Intel and ATI had a cross licensing deal on Extreme Graphics 3.

Hook declined to comment. We suspect the ATI-Intel cross licensing deal is still extant. And how come Intel and ATI are doing briefings in the Langham Hotel on the same day? This is defintely a coincidence too far.

I never pre-order anything myself but when Zelda: Ocarina of Time came out back in the days I wanted to get it right away, and the golden cartridge was a nice bonus, so I had to do it.

Didn't you mean PS 2.0?

Today should be a fun day. Keep your eye's open as early information is surely to be release from the MS tech expo.

good, so can you translate ? It looks like the x800 ultra or XT beats the 6800u, but I'm not sure. Plus I want to read sites that I trust.

I'm stilling waiting for a good review. The cards look pretty even, it seems like it really depends on the game though

Just like the inq suggested . . . it's back and forth (even the current 9800xt looks pretty good for such an old card) . . .

strangely the x800XT BLOWS-AWAY the 6800U in Far Cry (as the inq also suggested) . . .

edit check out the 6800u O/C in 3dMark - 468/1230 . . . i bet the 6800Ultra (not 'platinum, that the ati) , er Ultra II with new drivers will get a lot more performance . .. it looks close . . . if this is INDICATIVE of other reviews, ati was BRILLIANT in bringing out the XT now while the 6800U is still "immature".

Check out the 6800 O/C = 468/1230 . . . handily beats the xt.

edit: nope it's the ultra:

ok... was just looking at the graphs (said just 6800)

ATi has done a good job on this one. Just wonder how much driver optimisations each side can do...

to get a better idea on performance, both cards should be OCed

Well it seems that they were using the Catalyst 4.4's that have been out for a while ... they seem to have gotten a lot of problems with these drivers too.
