Maybe I should 'upgrade' my R9800Pro because with everything maxed it only gives me decent framerates @800x600 running FarCry(with no AA/AF). I know I can kill high quality shadows, and lose one of the best features of the rendering engine, and run higher settings but I want it all. And I would appreciate it at decent framerates running 2048x1536 🙂

apoppin...it might be true that NV wins this round, if you read around all the rumors.
BUT...keep in mind that there are some rumors which claim R420 only 10 to 15% slower than NV40.....and assuming that R420 is only an enhanced R3x0 core and NV40 is a totally new designed chip ATI did excellent with only a 15% slower !!! This makes me wonder what R500 will be like...
If R420 (although older tech) is really only 15% slower (which is irrelevant in my opinion !) then THAT card will sell which has the most features best image quality !!! Noone cares whether a card is 1 or 2 FPS faster or slower...
As always...everything is only rumors, esp. when it comes to numbers....

damn, we're discussing who "wins" even before the reviews are here.
nVidia marketing traditionally aimed for the FPS fiend while ati shot for 'image quality'. . . . nowadays the image quality is pretty darn (subjectively) equal with quibbling about AA/AF executions.
10-15% is a HUGE difference and (usually) more than 1-2 fps (take QIII for eg) . . . I am hoping the difference won't be so large . . .
and as usual, I will likely skip r500 as THESE new cards (NV40/R420) will be playing the entire crop of new games (deep into 2006 when Unreal Engine 3.0 games debut - edit and will likely run THOSE games pretty well).
Even if the ati card is 10+% slower you can be sure ati will play it's price/performance card (which has allowed it to survive pre9700 days); even IF ati "loses" this round, it will not be out of the game and continue as a potent competitor to nVidia.

Looks like they'll be using GDDR3 memory after all and will come with 256 MBs standard. The price for the memory alone is likely going to be steep. lol, I bet these things will be 600 dollars when they hit retail April 26th.

No mention of a non-pro 🙁 .

I'm starting to believe that ATi truly did miss the boat with R420. I say this because they are releasing the XT version so soon after the PRO version; ATi must be aware of the performance gap between the Radeon X800 PRO and GeForce 6800.
Get ready for the likes of Anand to slam ATi for not only being late to the game (debuting their new product 13 days after nVidia) and for having an underperforming product (relative to NV40).
The good news is that X800 PRO prices should fall rapidly.

If I read the article correctly, nVidia and ATi will have product out in retail stores at around the same time (April 26). Now it sounds like the 6800 may be faster than the X800 Pro (assuming any of the performance rumours are to be believed), but I wonder how well the X800 XT will do. The XT is coming only 5 weeks after the X800 Pro.
Anyways, it seems this ATI hype = release soon thinking was correct: "IIRC ATI usually starts the front page hype pretty close to the release date, but I wanted confirmation of that."

My mother lived on the island (Naxos) for almost two years. I spent almost three months there last summer. The first month I was there, two friends from GA Tech were with me. After they left, another friend from Atlanta visited me for two weeks. Towards the end of the three months, four friends from the Walnut Creek, CA area visited me.
Of course, I ended up making friends with quite a few people from Ireland, Sweden, and Austria. I still keep in touch with most of them (see the People & Friends section).
I had my own very nice apartment while there (the entire top floor).
It's quite hard to take a BAD photograph there. 1) During the summer, it's rarely cloudy. I went the entire time without rain, and there were maybe a dozen days when I saw a cloud. 2) The sunlight is amazingly brilliant, far more brilliant than what I am use to here in Atlanta.
