that means HL2 should be out within a month. i hope they don't package it with ati cards only before releasing game to retail...

$199 - $50 cost of Halflife 2 = $150 for 9600 PRO XT, sweet.🙂

I already own a 9800 PRO so I'd guess this be a great gift to buy for family members.

I don't understand... why do you want the 9600XT more than the 9800XT... THe 9800XT is a better performer...

I have $199 to spend, not $499! It's all about the FPS/$!!!

Edit: And look at Lyfer's math: You're getting a $50 game with a $199 card for $199.

The GF4MX is probably some kind of FPS/$ king.... I mean for only $17 in some places, it probably kills the 9600 in FPS/$. Dontcha think?

The difference is that the 9600xt will be faster than a $500 nVidia card in Half-Life 2, for $300 less 😀

not a dx9 card and with aa/fsaa on you'll prolly get less than 10 fps 😉

Alright then, a GFX5200 for $30. It ropes in around 20fps in HL2 in DX9 mode. It's FPS/$ smokes the 9600.

Last time I checked the 9600 was doing better in Half Life 2 then the Nvidia 5900

Where do you get your info?

FX5200 gets sub 15fps in HL2 running a DX8 path...
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1863&p=8

and the lowest price i could find on pricewatch for the 5200 was $60.

in my opinion, i think the 9800xt is overpriced. There are gaming consoles with greater graphics engines, etc that re almost just as good and more useful. $499 for a video card to play games...come on! Of course, if you're going to use EVERY feature of the card for everything (video editing, etc)..then it might be worth it. just my opinion...

Nope, Xbox graphics aren't even at the level of a $100 gf4 ti4200, and half-life and Doom will be low-resolution and much lower rendering quality on the xbox. PS2 is even worse.

I probably won't spend $500 on a graphics card, but even at its current price the $350 9800pro is a much better buy than an xbox if you care about high resolution or image quality.

RUMOR MILL :

The reason why Anand hasn't posted a review yet is 'cuz he's playing a HL2 Beta on a 9800XT + Athlon 64 FX-51 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL - yeah I can see that! Hope you are having fun Anand! hehe 😀

I find the 9800XT nothing but a rehash of a rehash. Nvidia did the same thing with their previous products and now ATI does it. The 9600XT is at least offering a potential good speed increase.

I hope ATI does not decide to sit and constantly milk one wafer design like their competition did, if they do they might find themselves looking up at Nvidia again.

But the 9600XT is going to be basically using the same memory as the regular 9600 Pro🙁

What do you expect? For them to pull rabbits out of their a$$? I mean, come on! People beg for something new every six months, so ATi and nVidia have to deliver something, but with 100+ million transistor counts, shrinking die sizes, and increasing R&D budgets, you cannot expect a new core every 6-12 months!
