First Radeon 9800XT Review is online! It's a Dutch site and seems to be getting hammered.

Here are some translations made by a Rage3D forum member:

Short summary:
Core: 412 Mhz
Mem: 256MB @ 730 Mhz

It uses DDR and not DDR2. It's very quiet and makes less noise than the 9800Pro. New feature is dynamic overclocking. The colder the card the higher the speed. Normal temp should be around 55 degrees Celsius, but this is never reached, so the card will adjust the speeds of the core and fan.

Performance hit when AA and AF are enabled is a lot smaller compared to previous cards.

Benchmarks:
3DMark2k3: 6505
3DMark2k1: 19027

Overclocking gets this card to 470Mhz core and 750Mhz mem. 3DMark2k3 score goes up to 6988 when using the overclock.

yikes!!, the site is getting hammered... its taken me 15 mins for like 2 words to come up... lol

EDIT:
New feature is dynamic overclocking.

this is not what i wanted to hear. I hate when someone tells me what i can do with my hardware!!! If i want to toat that thing i will. im not the kinda guy that will RMA it if i break it!! well... i was until common sense came in the form of my wife b!tc]-[ slapin me and telling me not to do that! anyhow, i just really hate when someone takes way some control or tweakability!!! Its nice for those that dont know how to overclock, but dood, this might act like another smartgart!!! ill save my other comments till i see the review!!!

Looking good, looking good, but will it make me switch from my Radeon 9700 Pro? Only time (and lots of performance charts) will show me....

"ATI managed to get multi million-bundle deal with Valve to bundle the single player version of Half-Life 2 with their new Radeon XT cards. . . . It's also unknown yet if there will be a chance to upgrade the bundled single player game (about $40) to the multi player version (about $50) will become available later. "

Well that's annoying, if still true: no multiplayer, for you!

From Tom's:

ATI made the very good Radeon 9800 Pro even better. Regarding performance, the Radeon 9800 XT is only 5-10% faster than the previous top model
:( Oh well. So in essence, it's just a super overclocked 9700 Pro

Well, there is nothing "performance enhancing" about the Cat3.8. All it is is a revamp of the control panel and other items.

Did not know this about RV360:

In the mainstream market segment, Radeon 9600 gets a refresh by virtue of the new RV360 chip which will go into Radeon 9600 XT. While the RV360 chip offers exactly the feature set as RV350, the new chip does comprise of one key difference: this it the first graphics processor to be based on a 130nm low-k dielectric process.

Agreed, the best thing about the xt is that it hopefully will push down prices on existing 9880 pro cards.

The only interesting xt feature is letting other manufacturers add VIVO without a TV tuner, like on the Asus board at Toms.

Some interesting (and a little disappointing) info on Overdrive:

While the new XT product do not bring anything new to the table in terms 3D features, they do borrow an interesting technology from their notebook counterparts, that being "OVERDRIVE". Overdrive is designed to bring overclocking to all users, but in a fashion that's safe enough for it to still be Quality Assured by ATI.

Normally manual overclocking is achieved by increasing the speeds until some kind of artefact is noticed, indicating that the speeds have gone past the limits of the board in question; however this can end up causing permanent damage to the chip or memory. ATI have taken a different approach here, and by virtue of an on package thermal sensor for Radeon 9800 XT and on chip sensor for 9600 XT, if Overdrive is enabled the core speeds will gradually increase until such a point that the meet a specified heat output and then the speed will be scaled back down slightly to remain under that limit. While the core speed will never drop below its preset speed, should Overdrive be enabled you can then gain extra performance from the board should your PC case environment be suitable to do so.

Overdrive will be available as an option in the CATALYST driver control panel. Sadly, however, due to ATI's insistence on passing all driver releases through the Microsoft WHQL process and Overdrive's late entry, this feature will not be available in drivers until November, so we'll be unable to take a closer look at this interesting feature in this review.

Does Tom's review seem almost.... ameteurish? I mean, the way he constructs his sentences, and how he seems to be putting both NVIDIA and ATI down at the same time... How about "The copper fins of the heatsink. The workmanship is not high standard. " What the hell does that mean? He makes several statements like that, which just seem baseless and foolish....

Er, anyways, I already got my video card for the coming months. The XT doesn't seem like big news.
