Official Athlon X2 user opinion and overclocking ability

I will be ordering mine most likely on Friday, just curious to know what those lucky enough to already own one think.....??????

I don't own one yet, I'm waiting on Monarch to get them and then deliver... Will report back when I find out how they work. 🙂

Mine is on order and hopefully be here next week. Still trying to figure out what memory to get.

Any thoughts folks on:

Mushkin XP4000 Redline or Corsair Twinx10244400C25?

What mobo are you getting?

Currently, planning on DFI-NF4 Ultra. My one concern with the Mushkin Redline is the high voltage required. I hear the DFI's mobo's and memory dying to the high voltage and wonder about component life-expectancy under such voltage.

I also considered the OCZ EL Platinum Rev 2 but reading OCZ's statement about the switch to TCC5, it appears that the better overclocking chips are being used in their higher speed offerings, limiting oc'ng on the PC3200 stuff.

whats this TCC5 you talk off, have any info on this 😀

Thx Pentium Guy.

OCZ EL DDR PC3200 Platinum Rev 2 ver1.1 using TCC5 chips instead of TCCD. All companies will eventually switch over b/c I believe Samsung TCCD is not being manufactured anymore.

Personally I would go with some OCZ vx gold with that Mobo, but hey that's up to you. If you really want to go all out and aren't worried about the cost....HANDS DOWN GO WITH THIS--

HELL YES!!!

yes but the problem is Capt Caveman, stated *"My one concern with the Mushkin Redline is the high voltage required"*, and VX require a helava lot of volst to perform, like over 3.4 ...

And to Capt Caveman: i have heard of that problem aswell with the DFI board and the failures they are getting with high voltage being used, even the head honcho over at DFI admitted it and advised it was better not to use it untill they try and solve the problem (dont see how they are going to do that tho, unless they replace all of the faulty mobo's)... i think you can do some voltage mods on the 3.3V rail to up the volts on the PSU (certain ones that is Power stream for one), as the dfi uses the 5 volt rail to get up to the 4 volt max for the dimms (using the jumper setting), personally i wouldn't bother with that stuff and stick with the EL series..

Well I have seen fairly good reviews on the vx gold with this Mobo, but yes I agree with you on some of the failures. If you look at what I posted though I would personally go with the second option I posted....it is manufactured specifically to work with that Mobo, and the voltage should only be up to 3volts at the most anyway.

Bump....anyone yet with any news. I have seen some things here and there on the X2 like the test at Tom's. I don't think I am going to pay much attention to the Intel shop at Tom's, just could be a little biased there. I am gonna be ordering tomorrow I'm gonna go with the 4200 not the 4800, too much money for the 4800.

get the 4400+ its a little bit more money like $50.. i think but has 1Mb of L2 cache for both cores as apposed to 512Kb, and is based in the SD's so they will OC better

Thanks...that sounds like a good plan to me....looks like I will be ordering one from TigerDirect, it's the cheapest place I can find right now with it in stock.

I do not believe they have it in stock. They list 7-21 days to ship, not including shipping time. Monarch is supposed to be shipping them on Jun 16th and tankguys.com Jun 15th.

Why would I be getting ripped off?? I know Tiger isn't the greatest site and they have the worst Customer service on the planet, but I doubt they would rip anyone off on this. I agree I would much rather purchase from ZipZoom, (NewEgg charges me tax in this state) they are usually late in getting in new products though.

The TCC5 overclocks very nice as well.. Apparently in some cases, even better than TCCD.

RyderOCZ and John have some OCZ that runs 285+

I max around 270.. But hell, for PC 3200 thats REALLY good..

Right now, I'm planning on going with the Corsair b/c it's guaranteed to be able to go 275, cpu and motherboard willing.
