A comparison between a 3800+ Venice vs 3700+ San Diego would probably be close to a 4200+ and 4400+.

So far what I've gathered from a few reviews is that same clockspeed but double the cache comes out to be about a 1-1.5% difference in 3dsmax7 and a 5% difference in games. That's what I do most with my computer, but I think I'll just hold out for the 4400+. Especially if I can get one lower than gougegg's prices.

thanks

Motherboard is fast and stable. A BIOS flash was not needed, as it came with X2 support out of the box.

Thanks!!! The NF3/AGP+X2 seems like a great upgrade.

How much have you overclocked? What memory speed do yo uhave the 2Gb at (1T or 2t)???

Where did you get the combo?

Any comparisons of the 4200 and 48 or 4400?? I wonder if the 1meg cache will make MORe of a difference with the dual core ....

Tankguy - can you get the NF3 DFI Ultra (new)

No, I'd have to look through our orders again, but I think we might have 1 order for an OEM and that's it. We're really pushing for the retail ones right now. None of the major distributors have the OEM's, and since we only have 1 order if that, AMD isn't going to ship that to us. So we're waiting on distributor availability for the OEM models.

Within a few days, hopefully, yes. I am working with the folks at DFI to become a resller of thier parts. They checked out our site last night and we passed thier criteria, and I got an e-mail from one of thier reps today who is forwarding our information onto thier accounts people. So hopefully I'll hear back from them within a couple days, at which point we'll start listing thier components on our site.

Thanks Tankguy,

If you can get the DFI NF3 Ultra let us know and I will place a pre-order (4400 x2) and when it shows up it shows up.

You have been extremely helpful.

Best

Mine arrived today from Newegg.

No probs with installation, recognised by mobo eveything smooth.
(ASUS A8V BIOS 1014)

Had to change one thing in Windows 2K to show up as 'dual CPU'.

Goto device manager.
Click the computer category.
Right click the uniprocessor entry.
Select update drivers.
Will detect current as single.
Select choose other compatible.
Select Multi processor.
Reboot

FedEx pissed me off, it was scheduled for delivery today, I checked last night and it was in Atlanta as of 10:30PM EST, checked again this morning and it left Atlanta at 9:45AM! Now I won't get it until tomorrow, which means me taking the day off today was futile. I also ordered a UPS Next Day Air and it was supposed to get delivered today, but there was a package exception and UPS won't have it here until tomorrow. This is just not my day when it comes to package carriers.

On a side note, I'll be having a full run of benches comparing mt stock 3800+ Venice SFF to my stock 4400+ DC SFF, along with overclocks and other stuff! Can't wait!

You're not alone. FedEx left mine sitting in Indy today (they don't have to bring it until tomorrow, so they didn't). :(

Yup... i think your X2 is partying with mine in Indy cause it didn't leave today either. Hopefully it doesn't show up hungover tomorrow... and I pray to god it didn't hook up with any nasty P4 Ds... never know where they have been... lol.

If mine doesn't go very fast, I'm blaming it on all the pot... ;)

Now I'm even more tempted!
Looks like a good price, better than what you'd find on a 4400+ anyway. If you want one now, and the 1 or 2% performance loss in a couple of high-end applications doesn't bother you, then you might as well go for it.

Yeah - I need the $50 to help pay for an extra GB of memory. I was kinda hoping I could find a 4400+ around that price though ala tigerdirect :p. I'm not going to wait a month or a few to get it though.

Given most people can hit 2600 or 2700 with their X2's quite easily, what is the best ram to pair with that? TCCD or TCC5 I assume?

Any recs? I know I will want to be 1:1 at the lowest timings possible. So any ram with TCC5 or TCCD what supports DDR400 2-2-2-5 shoudl do?

I have Patriot XBL (TCCD) and its advertised to run at 250 MHz at 2.5-3-3-(8?). I got it because I got a really good price on it, and if I had ever figured on overclocking my 3.2c I could've done that. I know that overclocking your RAM doesn't do much for A64's, but maybe the X2's could actually use the higher bandwidth? Get some of that memory and find out for us :p

Actually, I thought that latency does more for the A64's than raw speed. Meaning, low latency 1:1 is often better then 1:1 higher FSB but higher latency. This is not true with Intel chips where FSB seems to matter more (well, save on the new 1066 models)

$639 for the OEM 4400+? No thanks.

I'm about to order a retail 4200+...I've figured that I can't afford the 4400+, because $550 is already pushing my limits. I wouldn't want to buy an OEM for $640 either anyways
