Official Athlon 64 X2 preorder/instock thread...

Page 43 - Seeking answers? Join the AnandTech community: where nearly half-a-million members share solutions and discuss the latest tech.
My order at Tiger Direct now shows this:

Date of Order: 06/30/05
Order Status: Carrier Pickup - Your item(s) have been processed and delivered to the carrier for pickup. Please note: no changes or cancellations can be made at this point.

I got a retail boxed 4400 X2 for $625.99 total. No tax, no shipping.

That a good deal?

Muhaha! My 4400+ is arriving tomorrow from Monarch. I got it for $529 when they had the special over last weekend. Should be fun with 7800GTX arriving tomorrow.

They upgraded shipping from Fedex saver to 2nd day for free!

Even as availability starts to settle in, the craziness continues...

According to my primitive price scans for X2 4400+ retail:

-In the last 24 hours, price at Monarch has increased $70+ in more than one step.
-Price at Newegg has decreased $100+
-'In Stock' listing at Tank Guys reported inaccurate earlier in this thread has not been corrected in over two days

At this point, I'm just watching for the entertainment value, I can wait unitl things settle down. Who knows, maybe then I'll just wait again for 'Pacifica'. (or better yet, wait in Pacifica [south end]...yeah...truly cool-'n-quiet)

Ditto! Man, I'm so glad I got in at that price... when responding to their email offer I even added the Zalman 7000B-AlCu heatsink, and it was still nearly $75 cheaper than my original retail 4400 combo.

7800GTX? And I'm stuck with this worthless 6800GT.

(tosses in fireplace)

6800GT: Don't destroy me, I can still make you happy! To the maaaaaxxxxx!

Just get the 4200+, and don't worry about the hassles. I too wished that i got the 4400+, but I ordered 3 days before they had the special for the OEM. Ow wells, you win some, you lose some.

The 4200+ will still kick a$$ 🙂

Your 6800GT should serve you well for a while. I am upgrading from a 3 year computer with a radeon 9700 pro (awesome card btw), and needed a graphic card for my 2005FPW.

This is by far the most I have ever spent on few pieces of hardwares (CPU, MB, graphic card)

Newegg is still showing $625 shipped for a retail boxed 4400+. Perhaps shortage is about to end with a price war -- or at least a minor skirmish. I think I'll hold out for at least another day, more because I'm busy and I'm not sure when I'll have time to assemble a system than because my order from TankGuys would be almost $30 cheaper.

I finally got my FedEx tracking number from Monarch, my 4400+ retail box at $599 is on its way. Thanks to those of you who were watching that page like a hawk... it's back up to $670 now! And congrats to those of you who were able to get it even cheaper than me 😎

Hey crimson117, you got room in that fireplace for my stock 6800 AGP card? LOL 😀

According to an email from Erik at TankGuys, that in stock listing was an error

Yea, I'm extremelly sorry about the confusion on that. I have absolutely no idea why, but the SQL database that we run with our inventory information seems to be randomly adding 1 item to the quantity field for random products... I have no idea why this is happening. We fix it, then it just bumps back up again. We're trying to find the cause of the problem, but it's really confusing.

It actually did it with our P180 cases as well after we ran out. Hopefully we get this sorted out quickly!

In any case, we are still waiting unfortunately. As I said before, if time is of the essance for you guys, go with the orders from monarch or newegg or whomever else. They may be more expensive, but at least they have them right now! We'll let you all know as soon as we do get them though!

Well, MSI's CPU reference database says the motherboard already supports X2 CPU's.

I don't know if people are still reading through this (like I am) after getting their X2 in, but if they are tell me if you are getting the strange speed gaming bug. Some people are reporting that they have an unexplained speedup when gaming that goes away when they disable one of the proccessors in task manager for the game while it is running.

OK, I have two of these, and jpeyton and Duvie have them and NONE of us have this strange problem. This is the second time I have replied to this. Possibly some other problem with your system ? Try a reformat from scratch. Win XP pro ?

NO STRANGE SPEED PROBLEMS !!!!

Ha, you responded in the other thread as well, I know.

I wonder where the problem is coming from. I don't see the problems yet myself, just wondering if I will and wondering about the issue in general.

4800+ here, running at stock.

You guys with no speed problems, have you tried GTA:SA with the X2 yet? That is the ONLY place I have been having speed trouble and fixed it with the affinity set to ONE proc. I don't think the problem is with every game but only a select few.

I don;t have that game, but if its with only one game, then I would say the game or the OS has a problem, not the CPU.

i just played gta sa yesterday on my pc with amd 4400@2.61. If you mean speed problem as it moves way too fast which i had in the first place, i reinstalled the video card driver and it was fine after.

So, TankGuys, what do you think the odds are you'll get your 4400's August 1st, as AMD promised after breaking their first two or three promises? And have you had any luck getting your AMD rep fired, drawn and quartered, integrated with Windows Longhorn, or otherwise removed from your line to AMD?
