Season Starts Tonight with

Celtics vs Cavs

then right after

Clippers vs Lakers

Starts 7:30e/4:30p

For the West seems Spurs and Lakers are being said to go to the Finals but seem more sportswriters are saying as long as the Spurs can stay healthy are going to go to the Finals instead of the Lakers. I can see it happening if the Spurs can stay healthy but not much of a chance of that.

Cavs pretty much everyone saying is going to the Finals for the East.

I can't get into NBA until after January. The season is so damn long and I really don't think the players give it their all until the playoffs. The last quarter of the season and playoffs are great though. I live in Cincy so I don't have a team. I root for the Cavs and Magic.

Umm no one is even putting them in talks for the Finals and no reason to. Yes they got better but still aren't Finals material. You don't know basketball do you?

I doubt many in here have seen this year's Magic team yet. They are better than last year, much better.

Lakers and Magic in the finals again, and the Lakers might not get so lucky with the last second misses that handed them the championship last year.

A big part of the Magic was Hedo - he helped resurrect them, and on one hell of a contract. Carter is aging, and the question will be can he perform well inside with DHow roaming in the paint, since he doesn't have much of a jump shot. I love the Magic, and their one of my favorite teams to watch - but I don't see how they are much better than last year.

Hedo is not missed when you watch Ryan Anderson play. He's like Hedo on steroids, and he's far younger, bigger, and faster. Hedo's best year with the Magic was in 2007 anyway, not 2008. He was on a downward trend last year and he's already having physical problems this year with the Raptors, just like he had in 2008 with the Magic for a stretch of games. Don't get me wrong. I loved Hedo with the Magic, but he's not irreplaceable nor was he the backbone of the team.

The Magic also has Brandon Bass, who is another relatively young guy looking great. Then there's Matt Barnes who also had a great pre-season.

And there's still Jameer Nelson (with Jason Williams to back him up, a better sub than Anthony Johnson), Rashard Lewis (once his 10 game suspension is up), Vince Carter, and, of course, Superman (with Marcin Gortat still around to back him up).

I've watched them absolutely destroy teams in the pre-season. While I know the pre-season doesn't mean all that much the team chemistry and improvement cannot be denied. They are far better than last year; much deeper and way more talent.

It is easy to put them into the mix. Don't forget the Lakers and Spurs BOTH have trouble with Portland. LA NEVER wins in Portland. That's just a cold hard fact. LA and Portland split the series last year 2-2, and Portland beat SA 3-1. And Portland led at halftime 64-37 while both Oden and Przybilla were injured in one of those games. SA was fully loaded too.

I'm a grew up in Utah as a Jazz fan and I still am at heart. I am in Portland now, and I was never sold on them until this year. I felt as if last year they overachieved. Now you look at the roster and they improved on every single weakness they had. They are 11 players deep and 8 of them can go off on scoring runs at any time.

Greg Oden looks like a completely different player since the off season. His play for Team USA in the post was easily the best C they had. He's lost weight, gained a ton of confidence and is much more agile (the player he is at 100%).

Andre Miller adds to Portland as a complete playmaker on the first or second unit. His passing as well as driving complements the second unit in ways that left me banging my head last year without him.

Martell Webster is back, which is huge. This guy can go off for huge scoring runs at any time (ex 23 points in a qtr two seasons ago) as well as solid defense. His ball handling skills at SG are sometimes suspect, which is just fine at the 3 spot.

Brandon Roy is a silent superstar, enough said on him.

Lamarcus Aldridge since half way through last year has become a physical PF compared to his typical finesse style. I remember him posterizing many players off of the dribble. He really is Sheed 2.0.

Steve Blake gets better every year. He became much better at timing his passing as well as creating his own shot on the perimiter while shooting a great %. His defense is suspect, but with GO, Przy of LA in the middle, that's okay.

Add to the mix Rudy Fernandez, Travis Outlaw, Jerryd Bayless, Juwan Howard and Niclas Batum (inj), Portland is the deepest team in the league.

The Media doesn't like Portland that much as they are the slowest paced team in the league, but they are the most efficient offensive team. As Oden is the most efficient rebounder and scoring C in the league per minute last year, it can only get better.

The Celtics added depth with Rasheed, but they can only go as far as Garnett can take them. Example: last year. The Magic lost a scoring SF, so who knows how Carter changes the dynamic offense that Orlando has. Cleveland needs better players surrounding Lebron. As much as I hate to say it, Lebron is the best player in the league and he needs a supporting cast. Cleveland just isn't doing it.

Mavs are not going anywhere this year. Same team, same problems. The rockets just.. yuck. Without Yao or T-mac, it'll be fun to watch.

Utah cant survive with their fucked up chemistry. Boozer, AK and Okur jsut don't jive. They have great players and arguably one of the best PG's in Williams, but this combination of players do not work. Even a hall of famer coach in sloan cant fix this.

NO, like the Mavs, same team, same problems. They actually lost depth with parting Chandler.

Agreed. Portland isn't getting nearly enough credit. They are strong. Few are paying attention to the talent in Oklahoma either, which is no surprise with them being a new expansion team, but the West should be paying attention to both this year. The old usuals of LA and SA aren't nearly as strong as some in here seem to believe. The West very well may get a shake-up, wake-up call this year.

OKC is a good team. no joke about that. They just need a closer to finish games out. Simple go to last moment plays to win. They have lost so many close games it isn't even funny. I feel bad when I see those losses.

Quite simple, they don't have an established coaching staff at the same caliber of their players. KDurant should be getting better looks and high percentages, but I feel like something is holding them back when I watch them. Admittedly I have seen very few games as they don't come in on the west coast. Mostly Blazer-Thunder games.

And adding to the fact Portland has SA's number, every other team in the west is markedly inferior. The fist round should be a breeze against Utah or Dallas. The second round Portland still can take out SA or Denver. The WCF is the real test. Portland and LA complement eachother well and would be a huge series. Portland has more depth (example: 3rd string SF Travis Outlaw took over tonight against the Rockets) and could possibly sneak out in a 6-7 game series. I still would bet on the Lakers, but certainly the Blazers are # 2.

Portland... lol. They have one good player in Brandon Roy, and you're not winning it all if Brandon Roy is your best player. Who's the 2nd best player? Aldridge?

Cleveland looks like it has no chemistry right now. Toronto played well but the Cavs looked terrible at the same time.

btw, for those that have DirecTV, NBA Pass is available for free until 11/3.
