Has anyone with a P4G8X tried a ati9800 yet? Was wondering how they got along. I hope the fast writes issue is fixed with the 9800.

thanks

No problems with mine. No better - No worse - as far as performance.

Thugsrook is testing the X86 1004 Final Tweaked BIOS.
Check his thread linked above.
Fixes the memory timing ratio without using wpcrset/wpcredit program.

I flashed to 1004...sound went out...

Flashed back to 1003. Still no sound. Installed drivers from RealTek. Audio is on in BIOS...Very strange. When I got to the audio control panel, it tells me there is no audio device installed.

I'm at a lose...any ideas?

After flashing with the 1004g bios I now get "Cpu failed due to overclocking" and "Memory test failed" in a loop every so often. Should i try to clear the CMOS as well?

I've had this board for about 3 weeks and I am very happy with it, except sometime last week my sound became messed up. There is a faint buzzing on the left side. It's not that bad, but gets annoying. I'm running the 1005 beta but the problem started before I installed them. I dunno, I've reinstalled the RealTek drivers and messed with their different combinations. Should I just buy a decent soundcard? What should I get?

You shouldn't need to, but what are you looping?

Onboard sound leaves a lot to be desired with these motherboards. I would spend the 20-30 dollars and get yourself an SB Live 5.1 OEM at the very least, and disable the onboard.

Now that the 800MHz FSB chips are out, I had a question about compability. Would I be able to pop out my 2.4 someday and put in one of these 800MHz processors? If not, hopefully Intel keeps the 845's going up in speed for awhile. I am still surprised that the P4C800 came out so quickly, it took like forever for the P4G8X to come out. Still a great board though. (My first system from scratch.)

Tnx

2.4GHz @ 2.88GHz - need better cooling for more.

That is what I am hoping for. Also waiting to see what the 1meg cache cpus with hyperthreading may be compatible with this board.

about to buy one of these bad boys but have a question, I a getting an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro and am wondering if they have found a way to keep the problem from occuring with the constant crashing to 4 bit color or restarting? I have heard that the 3.3 Catalyst drivers should fix the problem, but what until then? Thanks. Jared M.

Intel cpu multipliers are locked, unless you are lucky enough to get your hands on an Engineering Sample from Intel. :)

Which video card are you using? I only get about 4600+ in Sandra 2K3 with my Radeon 9700 Pro.

This issue is a direct result of enabling Fastwrites under the SmartGart tab of the ATI control panel. If you disable Fastwrites, you shouldn't have any problems, of course there are other factors such as revision of the Radeon card, and Manufacturer types, etc.

I hope the 3.3 Catalysts could fix this, but I am in doubt of that happening.

The Memory Test Failed keeps looping.

What I did was flashed back to 1003G, then cleared the CMOS, and then flashed back to 1004G. Seems like the problem is gone. Weird.

Oh, you were talking about the POST boot up? Ok, sorry, I thought you were running an app.

Glad to hear the CMOS clearing did the trick. If all else fails eh?
