Man, I still have problems with the sound connectors in the back. It doesn't work at all. Tried using the nforce control panel to see if it helps and still no go. Tried unhooking my front panel audio connectors and that didn't work either. Has anyone had this problem? Is this possible to fix? Or do I just have a messed up motherboard?

I'm currently using my front panel audio jack, but it'd be nice to hook the tv audio and my speakers without switching them back and forth.

I got the revision 2 board yesterday from Newegg. It's amazing! No problems, no glitches, everything works great, overclocks to 267 fsb!!!!! That's good Twinmos! Yeah, so, maybe once I get the Pentium cooler on the NB, I'll put the board in the case and hook it up. Oh is it April 2nd where you're at? HAHa

I do actually need some advice on the NB heatsingk. What kind of NB setup do you guys have? I pulled it off and I'm trying to decide to put a modified k6-2 hsf on there or put the stock hs back on with thermal adhesive. One of the Zalman silent flowers is going on the cpu (2100-B btw), so I have a couple extra slots on the bracket for fans one of which is right over the NB. This is gonna be a permanent solution (the Zalman might not) so should I throw the old cooler on, get a nice looking one, or put the stock back on w/Arctic Silver TA?

Soulo, from all your problems I would have RMAed the board a bit ago. Yo've tried pretty much everything you can do, so maybe you just got one with bad jacks, or something. Life sucks, but someones going to get faulty stuff sometime.

Check the jumper settings on the drive. It should be Cable select if there is another drive as slave on it's cable, but the jumper should be moved to the master position if its the only drive. CS by itself makes my drive think it's a single slave.

Not sure on the floppy. You're sure the cable is connected right, has power, etc.?

As for a bootable CD-ROM. Nero supports making them. You'll need to find a floppy image (www.bootdisk.com). I got a floppy image, and then edited it w/winimage (do another search) and dropped the award flash and the bios files into the image, made it a 2.88mb image, and burned to CD with Nero. Boots fine...

So my problem is, I need to flash the bios before it will recognize the cpu. Therefore, I can't install an os b/c it says it is at 1100MHz. I downloaded the bios I needed and went to install it with a bootable floppy, it didn't work. It said that my floppy was not working, something like "boot device error, check cable".

So I thought it might be my new floppy drive (yeah, I checked cable directions and everything) so I put in my old floppy drive, same problem, so I swithced floppy cables, same problem...

So I figured, I would just blow off the whole floppy thing and install win2000 with the cdrom and worry about the floppy later. (When the bios boots, it recognizes the fact that I have a floppy, hard drive, and cd burner (all correctly recognized by the bios)

The windows startup begins, but then about 1 min into it, after it checks some things, it says that it couldn't find a hard drive on my computer and it exits and restarts my computer.

So what is my problem? Do I have a defective mother board?? Like the ide controller is bad??? but the bios recognizes everything???

One more thing, is there a tutorial on how to make a bootable cdrom (ie what files need to be put on the cdrom) so that I don't need the floppy anyways.

Any help would be appreciated.
One more thing, way at the beginning of my problems it gave me the error, floppy drive failure(40) what ever that means, but maybe that would help someone help me. It hasn't given me this error ever since I changed out the floppy...

Actually for Western Digital HD's you need to leave the jumper parked or take it off if the drive is the only one on the cable. If it is set to master it will appear and disappear from the BIOS. I once spent half an hour trying to figure out why my WD drive wasn't being seen by my system, and then when I finally Read The Fine Manual I discovered the extra single drive setting.

The newest bios available, for 1.xx revision MB's, is the 1003 final. I'm using it right now, and it seems as good as 1002A. This still didn't unlock the lower range of multipliers on my CPU. Peace.

1. Enhance system compatibility with Transcend DDR333(MOSEL chips) memory modules.
2. Fix the error that, under device manager, a yellow mark appears when installing WinXP with a USB keyboard and mouse.

P.S. L.M.A.O. at the fact that the Epox 8RDA+ has twice as many posts with twice as many problems, haaaaaahaaaaa! Sorry, just had to get that off my chest. Yes I know there are probably twice as many epox boards out there due to price but you get what you pay for, usually. lol

Most ppl with the 8rda cry if they can't get to 230 fsb. Or they actually hit it with 3v and something gets too hot and they need to resolder their entire board! But true: this one seems like it needs less attn.

quick question if i may: when setting up the system from the box there are a few things that need to be installed (winXP, SP1, new bios, ASUS UDP etc) and i vaguely recall reading a post suggesting the best, least painful order to load them in, but cant find that post anywhere again!

could you please suggest the best order to load stuff in, and whether other precautions like disabling stuff in the bios is needed at which stage. thanks

also, is the new 1003 bios the best one to get? i have already downloaded 1002 a while ago and havent put the system together yet so will hope to put the better bios on.

Well, I would suggest downloading 1003 and installing that first. Then you Install XP and then the nForce drivers (latest, not the ones off the disk). Then you can add SP1 in.

There are a pair of jumpers that have to be present on the front panel audio connectors on this board or the sound on the back won't work. You can replace these jumpers with two leads from your front panel audio if you want. But your rear main audio will not work unless these two pairs of posts are jumpered. That's why your front panel audio jacks should have several positive and negative leads.

i am running the a7n8x deluxe with an ati all-in-wonder 9700pro with no problems.

my board is 1.06 revision on 1003 bios.

i do have a problem though: when i insert the asus drivers cd, it tells me "SMBus_WriteByte failed" anyone knows what the hell that means? I can't install the pcprobe either. It can't find the "LmControl Procedure" - I think it is used to measure the temps and voltages.

besides those frustrations, i have a nice overclock on my barton.

OK. This is a more specific and hopefully more clear. The FPAudio has four connectors, two pairs, that have to be jumpered or both connected to your front panel audio. The pairs are Lineout_R / BLINE_OUT_R and Lineout_L / BLINE_OUT_L. When you received the board these should have been jumpered. If you took the jumpers off to connect the front panel audio jacks, your front panel audio should have two left and and two right connectors. This pairing takes the place of the jumpers.

Downloaded and flashed to 1003....so far so good. Set to 11.5 x 202MHz just to test for stability. Was running 12x198MHz before. So far so good Gonna push the FSB some more and see where it takes me. I already ran 3DMark2K3, so it looks like they did fix the AGP lock issue over 200MHz, as my 9700pro isn't crapping out anymore. 3DMark ran like a dream and finished nps; it would crap out before in a matter of seconds beyond 198MHz FSB. Also noticed that my temps, in MBM had dropped using MBM 5.0. One of the system temps dropped about 8C to 27C under load. Socket and CPU thermistor readings seem consistent though. Also noticed on my thermal diode reader that temps are a good 5C cooler. Its not the most exact reading (the diode touches the side of the core), but its a relative measurement that shows real world drops. Running the same Vcore at 1.8V, but only slightly slower than normal (about 50MHz).

I FINALLY GET TO PUSH MY TWINX 1024 3200LL!!!

Prime running as I'm typing this...just finished Test 16 first loop....................

With 1003 on my A7n8x Deluxe the mb temperature dropped from 33c to 19c ?? Is this reading right? The CPU temperature seem to dropped by a little also...

19C seems a little low... Specially since that equates to about 66F, well below normal room temp.

I just upgraded my box to an Asus a7N8x and popped my audigy 1 in, and now in games like Raven-shield and battlefield, I get this awful static and popping.

No problems playing mp3s or C&C generals though.
anyone encountered this? I tried older nforce drivers, and 2 version of audigy drivers.

My las a7v133a (via133a) machine ran fine with the same audio drivers and soundcard with those games.
