West Virginia, the bastard son of Virginia is the most useless state in the Union. What comes out of WV besides mildly entertaining COPS episodes?

Really, stop and think about it.
You know I'm right.

Vote in the poll.

I take it you guys have never been to West Virginia? West Virginia offers excellent white water rafting, very nice skiing and also the Greenbrier.

Coal?

More coal comes from another state, too lazy to check, but I know WV isn't the leading producer.

Oh, and your sig... KLIN got it wrong, that's 3M's buzz phrase not the DuPoint company.

The mines are just all about shot, towns are now full of people without jobs. The poverty i have seen there (and part of kentucky) is pretty disturbing. Incest is a problem in some parts.
However, there are some parts of WV that are really freakin beautiful for camping, backpacking, whitewater rafting, skiing (by east coast standards anyway).

A few statistics the disprove your statement about WV coal mines

West Virginia produces about 15 % of total coal production in the U.S.
West Virginia ranks third among states in coal production per year.
West Virginia leads the nation in underground coal production.
West Virginia leads the nation in coal exports with over 50 million tons shipped to 23 countries.
West Virginia Coal accounts for 47% of US coal exports.

WV is a GREAT state. It has beautiful landscapes like no other place on earth.

Oh, and it also has the single most clean radio telescope on earth (there's an FCC-enforced quiet-zone for miles around it, nothing that could possibly make interference is allowed)

Toll booths, apparently. Ever driven I-95? I swear they have tolls for NOTHING on that stretch of road.

There are a handful of states on the east coast that get a large percentage of their state budget from toll roads.

That's the absolute truth.
2 examples:
My wife went to Concord college in WV. She had a roomie that got pregnant. Now get this: She didn't know whether the baby's father was her boyfriend, his brother, or his father.....so they built a room on to the trailer (yes, a trailer) and moved her in with all of them.

My wife's ex had been married before. His previous wife had been "broken in by Daddy". And admitted it. And this was NOT unusual.

Stereotypes exist for a reason, and that reason is that at some time, they were or are true.

The WV stereotype of incest, no teeth, hillbilly, etc, is still very much true in many places up there.

the only idea I have of WV is ... what I saw in the movie Wrong Turn. Otherwise, I wouldn't think twice about that state.

My wife came from WV (and before you ask, no, she's not my sister, cousin, or aunt).

WV is absolutely beautiful. I enjoy going to see her dad and stepmom. It's a nice change from hectic city life.

Amusing, considering that you're from North Carolina.

All those redneck states are the same. Even in Florida, once you get outside Miami, the state is infested with toothless hicks.

Does a state have to be extremely overpopulated, be plagued by traffic jams and high real estate costs, in order to be considered "good"?
